Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Don't Turn Around" and "Beautiful Life" !!! You've now done their 2 biggest hits!
edit- 'baby' here is slang for boyfriend.
edit- its looks like a tenor saxophone in the live performance (sounds similar to the sax in Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off").

she is hunting for a man, another baby, not a child. "She leads a lonely life," not looking for a relationship, just a hookup. This was one of their first hits in the US. My personal favorite of theirs. Keep reacting guys. Going to throw this out there again, Taylor Dayne, "Original SIn", very theatrical, it was the theme song for the movie, The Shadow, released in 1993 or 4 I believe. Good movie for the time. Based on the PULP hero from the 1930's, The Shadow. Would be a good movie to watch as well. Keep it going guys!

'One night stands' was the first thing that crossed my mind when i first listened to this. It's easy to fall into this interpretation. But as the band explained the related story about ii had to do with some young women in Denmark at the time that 'used' men to get pregnant in order to get welfare payments for being single mothers, taking advantage of a paricular law.Didn't care about the man at all! They got used as 'stud bulls' just to do the job for them n then 'goodbeye'!.Pretty intersesting eh?!

@@davidrosoff3228 Hi there David.Well i'll take it from the start.I did remember it was mid '93 that i had read a couple of articles reporting about the 'real' story of this song explaining its connection with this particular law.Truth is i didn't recall reading an exclusive interview with the band about it,but it was refered as if the band 'explained'. Then i decided to refresh my mind before commenting here and did a lil research reading almost everywhere the same old story still. It was also interesting to take notice of the lyrics 'it's not a day for work,it's a day for catching tan,(explained in some site as 'don't care for work/for nothing')just laying on the beach and having fun' .So having that in mind i found it interesting how they took a 'social phenomenon' of those times and made it a song that got us tricked by making us thinking of a different story. But after reading your reply i'm rather confused. Are sure it's a false rumour?Wouldn't it be kinda mindless or even risky for the nusic press to overdo it,misinforming the fans and create such a story?Dunno.I tend to be more close to the side that claims it had to do with that specific 'privilidged' law than a female 'one night stander',but of course now i can't be 100 percent sure, and so You might be right anyway. Thanks a lot for responding. If you happen to know smth more then please tell me....P.S.plz excuse my troubled English.

@@alexioverdo5225 False rumors are reported in the press all the time. Especially in the world of celebrity. Probably 1/2 to 2/3 of the things "reported" about celebrities are false. They pretend to be legitimate by saying things like it is possible, or some sources say, or some such garbage. When it comes to famous people, the more sensational the better. All they care about is selling papers, or getting views, or ratings. & urban legends, & other long term false rumors (like Danish women having babies for money), eventually are taken as fact, especially the more they get repeated. Rich, right-wingers did the same thing in the U.S., blaming "welfare moms" for a drain on our economy, when the real drain was from corporate welfare, which accounted for hundreds of times more welfare money.

Loved this band. Apart from ABBA, maybe the most successful band from Sweden to hit it big in the U.S. The lead singers are sisters Linn and Jenny Berggren. You've now done their two biggest hits, but there are others! "Don't Turn Around" is a banger, as is their cover of Bananarama's "Cruel Summer". "Living in Danger", "Beautiful Life" and "Happy Nation" are also excellent choices. And I believe, to give you context, the word "baby" in this song is synonymous with "boyfriend", not an actual child (which is what I thought the song was about for decades). But yes, she is a player. 😁

The group has explained that the term baby in this song is slang for a man not an actual baby. So all she wants is another man isn't very catchy putting two syllable word baby in it's place makes the song better. It's interesting Duran Duran can get away with Hungry like the Wolf but for a woman to sing about a woman being the same way it's controversial, though the controversy helped make it an international hit.

You need to listen to Beautiful Life. Ace of Base was a nice turn in tone from the early Grunge 90's so to something a little brighter, and the greatest Music to hit American shores from Sweden since ABBA!

That horn is a baritone (lower than tenor, higher than bass) saxophone, (or an electronic sampling of it). "Don't Turn Around" and "Beautiful Life" were also big Ace of Base hits.

Linn Berggren is the lead singer here. She was a teacher before the band became successful. Her voice, like Karen Carpenter's and Cher's is listed as a "Contralto" or lower register.
    This band wrote catchy songs!

The reason she'll be gone tomorrow is because she's only looking for a one-night stand, no serious relationship. She's not wanting to get pregnant, she's wanting a man to be her baby/lover for a night.
I'm not sure as it's been a while since I've been around the instruments, *Amber* , but it sounds like a bassoon, low notes on an obo or maybe a baritone saxophone.
I always thought it was a bassoon. 🤔
I have relatives that played all three, but it was ages ago.
Will you please listen to the British group/duo *Swing Out Sister* ?
    "Breakout"
    "Twilight World"
    "Blue Mood"
    "Who's Been Sleeping"
    "Notgonnachange"
    "Butterfly"
    "Now You're Not Here"
    "Somewhere In the World"
    "Something Every Day"
"Am I the Same Girl?" (Made first by Barbara Acklin, then by Young-Holt Unlimited, but titled as "Soulful Strut" and was more popular than Acklin's song. I think you'll like "Soulful Strut", and also "Cissy Strut" by *The Meters* )

The previous song you listened to, The Sign, is a break-up song. As others are mentioning, this one is about a "use you, and lose you" woman. If you want a song of theirs that the lyrics truly match the upbeat Euro-pop sound, Dancer in a Daydream is the best off of that album. I'll go listen to it now.

I’ve heard this song hundreds of times at least, but never have I ever thought about the meaning of its lyrics. Never even cared back then. So it’s weird after 30 years to actually think what they’re singing about 😀 I was just always lost in the music itself.

Ok this is the 2nd time I've seen this but I have to say that I giggle with delight when you discuss the song and make references to "Maneater" and "Hungry Like the Wolf". I raised my boys on music before, during and after my time, so seeing young people their age who are discovering it for the first time is so gratifying. It's good for this old audiophile to know that the legacy of good music lives beyond my small physical circle of influence. Clearly I'm not alone otherwise you wouldn't be as successful as you are.

Can't remember which streaming channel had a documentary about Swedish music producers, but it was about how incredibly influential they've been on the American pop scene. This band is one of their successes - highly successful number one dance club hits. It also talked about how since English is their second language, the lyrics sometimes come across with a different meaning. "All that she wants is another baby" is equivalent to "Hit me baby one more time" also written and produced by Swedes.

    • @BarbaOlof

Denniz Pop, working in the Cheiron studio in Sweden was successful producing some big names in the early/mid nineties.
Unfortunately he died far to soon, but the thing he started was continued within the studio, most notably by Max Martin.
A search for tracks produced by Max Martin will show how influential he was primarily in the late nineties and early two thousands.
