I can't be the only person that keeps hoping his next album is a Sunday Valley reunion.
Maybe you already know but, I seen his recent interviews and he says quote “never gonna happen” 🙁

Kevin Herman I'm still wondering WTF rhymes with Bronco!
Your comment would be a great song lyric. "My neighbours listen to this all the time! Whether they want to or not" Epic!
listened to Sturgill for three hours Friday morning at work. took the afternoon off to drink and listen to more....
Sounds like a day well spent to me.
Christina Harris best comment ever
You got a twin sister?
Christina Harris .....time well spent
Did you ever figure out what rhymes with Bronco during those hours?
This is one of the greatest guitar performances of all time.
I love it, way GOOD!!!✌️✌️
Totally agree
Sturgill is literally one of the greatest guitar players of all time
Easily.
Give some love to that bassist. Steady as an atomic clock and funky as yesterdays socks at the same time! He carved out fills and runs while staying tight and true inside the pocket. Respect!
If you are only listening to this on a phone you aren't hearing what's there on the low end. Play it through decent speakers or you is missing out!
True , cuz sturgill drops out so many times, it’s gotta be hard to lock in
Real musicians 🤙
He’s thumping that mf er.
My klipsch 12 inch powered sub knows EXACTLY what you mean!
I'm a huge Sturgill fan. I've bought everything, I've streamed everything. I got a hat. This is the absolute best fucking video I can't stop watching.
This one is definitely one of my favorites. So many awesome performance. I too am a huge fan and tell everybody I know
Fast af boy
A hat!!

Me too. And it's been like ... a decade.
Song has me in the back yard with a pick axe trying to take a chunk out of this full moon.
Now THAT'S what a telecaster's for...
Yes... PLEASE!!!!
Check out "Return of the Hellecasters" by the Hellecasters!
Gotta agree, I've never heard a telecaster sound like that. This is very special
He's singing with the notes like Hendrix would do. This has a Mississippi Delta sound. A plugged in Robert Johnson.
@@mikemadden2729 ok. I will.
Still blowin my speakers out to this tune in ‘24 cmmooon.
Me too my friend
It's 2024 and a part of me still wishes more than anything this Sturgill will come back one day
hes coming out with a new album going on tour this year!!!!!!!!!
He’s baaaack
Who the Fuck is Johnny Blue Skies?
I hate ole dude sold out… gotta be a better way!!
@@DLCisall if you think he sold out,
you just kinda don't get it.
Sturgil must revisit this at some point.
Yes please
@@markthelark00 please?seriously?
@@simplyhuman3982 with a cherry on top🍒👍
He is to country music what SRV is to blues or Hendrix is to rock. This is pure genius.
Indeed. Geniuses that resurrected their dead genres.
Gibby Wolf Sunday Valley could've been The Nirvana Of Country Music.
Interesting praise. SRV? Or does that make me too dumb to bother with?
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Damn high praise there
I cannot stop watching this video. I am so thankful that it exists.
Imagine seeing this in a bar or small venue. These dudes tear it up.
I've seen Him in the tent in Helsinki's Juhlaviikot happening. He was GREAT👍
If this doesn’t grab you by your soul I hate to tell you Hoss but you’re dead inside.
Absolutely factual information sir
Dope
My whole family is now a huge fan weather they like it or not....this dude can jam
Don't mind me... just digging a friggin deep TH-cam rabbit hole of Sturgill goodness. No sleep till sunup!
How has pop country become more popular than this?? I don't understand humans!! Give them bad music and they love it, give good music and they reject it!!! This is good county music!
AMEN
A lot of people are fuckin idiots in case you haven’t noticed lol
Children. They haven't developed the ear for this yet.
Sturgill slaying the bluegrass. Never go to town again 2023 style. `This video is 10yrs old and still brings it. Run it back Sturgill!
Pretty sure it’s illegal in all 50 states to shred that hard and make 99% of modern country artists look like amateurs.
I love that "country music" business hates him.
Sturgill: So this is what? Pickathon? Ya, I can pick a a ittle
You know this…man! 😂
We need him to upload his Sunday Valley songs to Apple Music and Spotify
It's like "Metal Country." I love it!
Bring back Sunday Valley!
I like modern strurg, and things have to move forward but you cant beat motorhead meats waylon.
At least this sound. Because, Damn.
@@joeread9533exactly how I’d describe it!
I don’t understand how I have never heard this song before , you need to step up your game algorithm!!!
underground country is where it's at
It's a shame the people who listen to radio country will never know what true country is
The most gifted musician/songwriter/singer/composer in decades.
Tbh man, we're blessed with many today. Talent no longer gets you the spotlight though which is a shame.
And you forgot the people that back him up
💯
Here in 2024💯
Same same outlaw country at it's finest!!!!
Same gang same!!!
❤💯
Damn near 2025
I don’t keep track I’m just here

your gonna need some shop towels for that 🤣
Most underrated compliment ever
@@rayrobert9378 bounty it's the quicker picker upper
That's a big pile of amazing tones
I'm in love.
Sturg has the best band ever.
That Tele deserves a spot in the Rock n' Roll hall of fame. I've never heard that much noise come outta one guy and his ax before, holy crap! I love Sturgill, can't believe the junk "they" call country music with this kinda amazing music out there!
I'm with you but he slammed this guitar face down on the floor on Saturday night live
@chrisscott6961 and unlike a Gibson, he probably picked it up and it's still cranking out music! That's a f'n Tele for yea!
America has been never been greater as Sturgill's sound exemplifies. He not only incorporates so much music born from generations of different (and many struggling, unrecognized) american artists and cultural genres, but he has taken all of those influences to an amazing and original level. Original in terms of combining musical sophistication, frenetic pace, and melody. His flat-out irreverence to adhering to any one particular style is pretty cool too.
You got that right alex ! he`s fuckin awesome.
You summed it up pretty well. GENRES BE DAMNED!
Like the Hellecasters, Dixie Dregs & of course Little Feat, the unrecognized & underappreciated showing the big pop stars where the bear shits in the buckwheat!
Nailed it 🎯Alex, especially your last sentence👌🏻💪🏻
Nailed it !
sturgill is the truth like it or not....he's a bad BAD man
STR8TFU!!!
That’s the truth, Truth!
Damn right
I say we put this tune on, crank it way up, and get to making America great again! Who's with me?
I'm with ya!!
I saw this cat a couple of weeks ago on Fallon and am just getting caught up. Christ, this fucker 's the real deal.
America is the greatest it will EVER be.
i doubt that lol
I'm a dedicated leftist liberal - politics don't matter. This is the shit!
This performance is gonna make me have to start smoking cigarettes again … whew🔥 ❤️❤️❤️
Turn it up!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
That was the best jam ever recorded.....by anyone in history
Shock Therapy yes yes and hell yes...✌️☮️✌️
Call to arms on SNL was pretty awesome
Patrick..wherever u r.
This bud and the next 3 following shots of Espilon tequila r 4 u.
I said the same thing to a chick that didn't get it 4 months ago. She gets it now. Hoo ahh!
This never ceases to amaze, three piece live, Sturgill playing so hot he’s become dry ice and then them other two dudes putting on a god damn clinic w how it’s not how many notes you need but how far behind and in front of the pocket you can go in a millisecond....legendary live performance....for any genre...
Oh. My. Good. Lord. I was not prepared for that. It's so fukn badass
He's a total bad ass
I haven't heard anyone mention how hard the drummer is working to keep up, but I barely notice till after watching this about 189 times!!!
That drummer is working his ass off!
Once you notice you can't not hear it...
RUSHING OR DRAGGING?
Keeping time? Shit i was just keeping up!
Check out Sometimes Wine. He has to speed up 3 times in Sturgill's 1 minute solo. And it's not Edgar's fault, Sturgill is just shredding
Love the rawness of this performance! Sturgill’s just goin for it.
Only choice he had
That might be the closest display of mastering both vocals and guitar i've ever seen.
We are watching a legend in the making!!!!!!! Mark my words
When that bass line hits @ 3:25 I could handle snakes and walk on hot coals.
music criticism as pure poetry. let's get stoned
@@rachaelsanders1991 I like your style.
Head banging bluegrass? How do you describe this??? I love it! Can't wait to see you Sturgill !!
Jerry Reed meets Ted Nugent
a little rockabilly, a little Lynrd Skynrd, and renegade country ala Waylon Jennings
You call it country
Sheila Freitag psychobilly
Ralph Stanley meets Metallica? The great Sturgill Simpson jamming on a tele but throw in Johnny Depp on bass and Conor McGregor on drums for good measure.
Unbelievable! Why am I just now finding this guy? Country music lives!
I just found him two days ago lol smh
1.3 million and counting views, about half are mine! I discovered Sturgill a little over a year ago and have become a bit of an addict. Just love how he works that Telecaster. This video literally changed my mind about owning one...Now if I could only play it like that! Keep shredding good sir!
Addict. Yes, I feel like one, too. I keep going deeper down the rabbit hole and discovering anew how amazing this guy actually is.
The other half are mine! I'm a full blown addict! Now I just need a left handed Telecaster that I can figure out how to do what SS does!!!!
@@stevennash3973 I just built a Tele kit from thefretwire.com about $135 for a lefty...
How is that tele working out? I have a baja tele and its fits my playing style like a glove.
Your views only count as 1
Seeing him tomorrow in Bend. Cannot effing wait.
lucky you
I love how Sturgill stated in interviews that his electric skills weren't good enough to play lead. I mean, really?!
This is awesome but I think he was right. Have to do more than straight pick to be an all world lead guitarist.
This is exactly what I like
This is so good.
My god yes
Women oh woman, I'm going away
Promise you my heart but you know I can't stay
I've had a heavy weight bearing down on me
It's taken a toll that is plainly to see
Where is your pity, where is your smile
Seems like they've been gone from your face for a while
I thought that old railroad would drive me out my mind
Left there running, another job I'll never find
I'll go back to Kentucky and there I'll disappear
Far back in the hills and from me you'll never hear
I'll find a pretty bluebird and teach it to sing
Only joy in this world that I'll know it will bring
I'll never go into town again
Never find another love, no one to call my friend
Thx. I been butchering the words to this for years.
Dude you are a hero
"Sturgill's tuned to open G, this should be pretty easy to figure out."
two hours later....
Ego = shattered.
Right? I was kind of half expecting that Tele to burst into flames for a while.
Awesome song, awesome players.
Love this stuff.
Wil Grundon ego: shattered. lol
NO PICK EVEN!!!
Uhhhhh ok
I have a serious question, because honestly this just sounds like badass punk music with a country twang. Anyway, is what Sturgill playing hard to play? He looks like he's having a hell of a time as in fun beating the shit out of the damn thing, but since I don't know a thing about guitars, I've wondered if he is really ALSO very talented at playing the G tar. Thanks. :)
Sweet Lord that poor telecaster is crying! Love it!!
James Harbo that isn’t even a real telecaster! He made it himself which makes this a whole other level of cool !
Crying for more!!!
i think I've watched this at least 100hundred thousand times. raw country rockn roll. gets better ever time I watch
Ditto that! I don't know the number, but I'm catching up!!!
"That was some mighty fine picking and a singing"
🚀2024 bleeding heart this shits rocks me every time
This little 3 piece should get back together for a barebones album and a little national tour.
This is probably a big reason why Pickathon exists to this day!
Oh man, that is tight and tough, probably the best thing I've heard in 56 years
This from a man who was “humbled in Nashville”; more like he is humbling Nashville.
I've been watching this at least once every couple months since it came out and it's still one of the coolest things i have ever seen.
One of these days while watching this video, again, I swear that Tele is going to burst into flames.
The energy of that bass player.
These.country boys are bad ass ..
Picking that damn guitar like a Boss, son!!!!
Brother tearin it up!!! He doesnt get nearly the attention he deserves for his playing imo. And the bass player.....damn!!!
I dont even know what to say about this. Wow..
Dude kills it
I keep coming back to this video, FULL volume every single time and completely disappear for the length of the vid. STURGILL RIPSSS!!!!!!! All three of yall
I can listen to this over and over again. Just Bad Ass as it gets....
That's exactly what I do
Drummer is a beast
That telecaster is about to freaking combust!!! What a rockin jam.
This mf er is the baddest there is. Killed it!!
Favorite Sturgill tune ever! I just wish I could get CDs of his Sunday Valley work.
FOLDED FLAG IS MY FAVE

Loose as a goose! Too good… More loose Sturgill please 🙏
This is better than new stuff he has released... please bring this back!!!
now That's Freakin Pick' n!!!!!!!!
This is the greatest fuggin' video that ever was.
Man!!! Johnny Depp is a much better bass player than I knew!
Much better than his acting for sure haha
Definitely never watch that clip of Depp playing a guitar solo lol...what a mess
My wife and I think it's Johnny Depp's brother.
This NEEDS to be recorded in a studio!!
Sturgill + cocaine = masterpiece
Or meth + heroin speedballs, LMAO!
This is the best era of Sturgill. Change my mind.
Agreed
wow. that is some amazing musicianship.
Never gets old!
This kicks major ass! Good ol KY boy burning down the barn!! Get it Boy
This is gonna sounds weird but a good friend of mine posted this song a day before he passed. I play this song every year in honor of him.
I went back and watched the rest of the pickathon 2011. As most of them are very good, there is nothing even close to this. Its. just. so. damn. good.
This is just feckin shweeeet.. thank you 3 beautiful bastards for these tuuuuuunes. Much love
I like hard rock but damn this is so good ,I can't wait to see him in concert.
We need more sunday valley such an underrated band stay shredding sturgil
I love the duct tape holding the mic! lol awesome!
Bravo man. That was a kick ass song.
The contrast in energy levels between Sturgill and his bassist remind me of Pete Townsend and John Entwistle.
great call
A full palate indeed
Kevin Black. He is with Margo Price. One cool ass dude
Couldn't keep me still standing next to the fire Sturgill is...lol
The Young bros of AC/DC comes to mind.
Daaaaaaaam, you boys killed it! Outta be a crime the way y'all pluck them strangs and sang!! Best dam song I've heard all year!!
Makes me day dream of driving an old 40's ford coupe down a dirt road, running moonshine or something. The law hot behind me. Giving em the bird out the window. This is music made for going fast.
How many times can one person listen to this song? Don't know, but I'm sure going to enjoy the journey. ;-)
One dude out of almost 15,000 doesn't like this...that's a DAMN GOOD AVERAGE!!!
He was surely jamming the fck out and slipped up!
Holy shit.
This is a revelation.
I'm not sure who filmed and edited this but the video is as good as the music!
It has just the right psychedelic feel and look about it, Brilliant stuff one and all!
Thanks for posting this incredible jam!
Sure is😅
OMFG! Ya think !
53 years old , didn't think I was a country fan . Heavy metal , stoner rock and a few other genres . Found Tyler then found Sturgill a few years later . Turns out you can teach an old dog new tricks ! Now I'm learning guitar . Wow
Damn, did he sell his soul to the devil to be able to play like that? Fkn awesomeness, thank u!
