There are so many levels that "time-restricted eating" works on. It mechanically means you aren't stuffing your face every waking hour. So there's that. I find it reduces cravings. But the big thing is you learn to get through boredom, annoyance, frustration, etc. without using food as a drug to deal with those things.

Yes exactly. Helps to curb emotional eating also. At least for me it does anyway.

2mad and sometimes OMAD is such an incredible tool for weight loss and maintenance. The body is not designed to be fed every 2 hrs. Eat a nutrient dense meal (ribeye for me with liver) and I can easily go 24hrs without food. And 3 hrs of tennis at the end of the fast. Ultra focus, high performing at 50yrs young.

I don’t understand how you’ve lost 60 lbs in 4 months doing intermittent fasting. Can you please explain more in detail and what you eat and the times you eat. I need to lose 100 lbs. I’m very curious to try what your doing. Thank you.

pagerus I dropped fast bc I have a lot to lose. My first goal is 100lbs then I will see how I feeI and set a much smaller goal (maybe 20ish lbs from there) just now slowing down to average weight loss (1lb / week) I started with 16:8 and OMAD (one meal a day) and increased my fasting hrs. The last 9wks I have been doing ADF (alternate day fasting) which is 36-42hr fasts (You have to have a 6-12hr window to eat at least 2 nutritious dense meals after a fast that long to keep your metabolism going) I have 1 day during the week that is OMAD.
Real fat burning starts between 18-20hrs. Work your way up, listen to your body.... don’t rush for long fasts. If you feel dizzy/nauseous you need to eat. Most people take a while to build up to longer fasts.
Clean fasts only: plain water (not even lemon) plain seltzer, plain coffee/tea. Any flavor even if unsweetened can spike your insult and break your fast.
I eat healthy and cleanish for the MOST part bc that’s what my body now craves but trust Me when I say I do eat whatever I want ... during my window guilt free. I do eat less bc appetite correction happens with fasting so I am now satisfied with less consumption... only eat till satified not stuffed... never eat for future hunger.
It takes 28 days for your body to fully adjust to the lifestyle change so don’t expect to drop weight yet. You may even gain a few while your body adjusts. Don’t get discouraged.Take pics and measurements... changes are happening! My fiancé doesn’t fast longer than 22hrs, has only lost 9lbs but he has lost several inches and about 4 pant sizes

I wake up at 6am so i just have green tea until 9am. I have 3 meals a day, no snacks and i stick to my recommended 1500-1700 calories a day. It has helped me lose some weight, slpwly but surely. Since the COVID-19 lockdown in March, I’ve been doing an 18 hour fast since my Martial Arts activities have been reduced. Started at 200lbs in 2018 and now at a healthy 160lbs. Reduced both Type2 diabetic and high blood medications with the doctor’s blessing.

Very good video. I like to hear about how other people have been doing IF. I personally am so happy I’ve discovered intermittent fasting. My weight has been yo-yo’ing up and down for many years. I eat my feelings. Last year I had knee replacement surgery and my weight went up to 226. Heaviest I’ve ever been. Then in March of this year, I decided to try to lose weight. Again. Watching what I was eating and working out. Not much happening. Then in early April I got sick with Covid-19. Lost 16 pounds in three weeks. I was out of work for a month. Didn’t start feeling better for 2 months. During that time, I started hearing about IF. At first I thought no way! But as I started researching it, I decided to try it. At first went slow. Now I have a routine. I work 3 twelve hour shifts a week. On the days I work, I do 16:8. On my days off, I do OMAD. I also work out in a fasted state on my days off work. I don’t follow Keto. I have lost 56 pounds so far. And I feel good about this. And I know this is something I can continue going forward.
I think the key to any ways of weight loss are figuring out what works for YOU, and consistency. ☺️

I have a cup of coffee when I wake up. I do not eat until 12 noon and try not eat past 8pm. I have been doing this since last November and have lost 6kgs. I do not want to loose anymore weight as I am quite slim now. I did this because since retiring a year ago, I found I was eating breakfast, lunch and dinner with snacks in between and put on 6kgs. When I was working I only had coffee in the morning and rarely had time for lunch and so was only having one meal a day at dinner. I have managed to maintain my weight by doing this intermittent fasting.

IF is limiting the amount of time, during a single day, in which you can take in nutrients from food.
    Nice! We agree!
    Autophagy! Yes, again, we agree!
Yeah, if you are having problems with feeling hungry Jillian, you probably are having too many carbs, especially those bagels! Try moving your carbs to healthy, low glycemic, vegetables and fruits! Combine that with a higher fat and moderate protein components and your hunger will evaporate away allowing a longer time that you can remain in peak autophagy! (Yes, taking in required calories during a 4 to 6 hour window can be challenging for someone trying to put on weight or maintaining high energy lifestyle, but it can be done)
If this is too much of a challenge, gastronomically or otherwise, try just doing a plain old fast once or twice a month, for 24 to 48 hours.
Here is the thing, if you are obese, I highly recommend fasting for 2-5 days before beginning a weight loss protocol, as fasting allows your body to completely reset and break the carb craving cycle, thereby stabilizing insulin and providing a platform for more consistent energy. If you stick to a clean keto type diet, that uses intermittent fasting, your fat will melt away easier than you ever thought possible all without strenuous exercise and calorie counting! While exercise is not required for this to work, it is HIGHLY recommended that you engage in LOW INTENSITY cardio, such as walking or hiking for an hour a day. Two caveats, though, first is your mental health...If you have an eating disorder then it is best to address these issues first, or at least have a doctor, that supports your decision & understands your goals, work with you during this period. Second, Consult your doctor first if you have any pre existing medical conditions or are on any medications, as you can run into issues when fasting; but an otherwise healthy individual will have no problems with a short fast.
The modern clean keto diet works, and it works fantastically well with IMMEDIATE health benefits.

Even if I’m up at 5, A typical day for me is a cup of black cold brew on my way to work. I bring my salad with a steak and a couple of sliced oranges to work, and eat at 11:30AM. Get home a make my salmon, eat a Walmart second salad with a couple of oranges and a slice of whole grain bread at 5:30. I’m full the rest of the night. IF I’m still up at 9, and I get hungry I’ll drink water. And fast until 11 again the next day. I sleep like a baby. I’m ready to go in the morning.

Intermittent fasting has been around for centuries in a religious context. I am ethiopian orthodox and we have fasting throughout the year..the big is one is the 40 days fasting for easter, where you don't eat anything that comes out from animal, and you break your fast at 3:p.m. for 40 days...I am sure you all have these rituals as well. At the end the goal is to rejuvenate your body, but don't be military about it or plan. just do it organically by finding out what's best for you..

I’m an IF. I started because I was 50lbs overweight & the bad habits I accrued overtime revolved around my “snack & run” lifestyle. I survived nursing school & working night shift on the “snack & run” habit. This was an absolute wreck on my body because I ate my meals on the run, I snacked to make up for “missed meals” so I was consuming my calorie quota or a little over BUT I was eating crap for calories! I would say “oh but I had that DD sandwich that was less than 300 calories” but didn’t consider that it was processed crap. I would miss “lunch” and then run & grab M&M’s. Then I’d go 6 hours without eating, get home eat something small & sugary like oatmeal and go to bed. Between being upside down in my circadian rhythm & eating like trash, I totally messed up my body. When I switched to day shift, I still brought those habits along with me. IF acted as the “smack” on the hand to stop the nonsense & be mindful of what I’m eating. It’s been a great “reset” button for those days I’m celebrating a birthday or a special occasion. And it actually feels good to heal my gut. It also helped me “detox” from sugar & processed food. I no longer crave it, want it, or consider it when I need to eat on the go because let’s face it, sometimes that is the shift I face when I go to work. But the point is to make better food choices, plan ahead, & stay away from the C.R.A.P. (Carbs, refined sugar, alcohol, & processed foods)

You’re not starving your body if food is available and you’re choosing not to eat it. That is a fast and those that do the 500 calorie fast usually eat regularly the next day. The 500 calorie restriction is their fast and then they eat normally the next day. Then, the process repeats. With proper supervision I assure you that you won’t be starving yourself. Our bodies are stronger than we think.

Also my appetite has decreased. Doing the 16:8 IF. it's working out pretty good losing 1 lbs a day and I'm not working out yet until I find a routine. I chose this one because I'm not a breakfast person and I've seen amazing results from plus sized people sharing but this is probably the only personal trainer I'll ever listen to she's smart but she doesn't lead with false leads

Just 13 hours? I've been intermittent fasting for many years now, and that sounds like barely fasting: a non-fast. You might have a good reason to say that, if you're talking to beginners, though. I remember when I first started IF, I would fast for 16 hours and then PIG OUT for dinner. I went for junk, too: pizza, sweets, etc. Over the years, I've found it easier to fast anywhere from 16-20 hours in a day and break my fast in a more reasonable way. It helps to know exactly what food you're going to eat to break that fast, and then just eat that and wait for an hour or two before eating more. I go for protein at the start of an eating window, and keep it small. That's helped me a lot, along with trial and error.

The bird is actually hilarious! But she is quite wrong! If you really want a scientific perspective on IF, please listen to Dr Jason Fung. He explains it all so well and he’s easy to understand. Jillian doesn’t address how IF affects insulin resistance and how that in turn stimulates weight loss. I’ve been IF since July 2020, and I’ve lost 15lbs!!! As a 42 yr old woman, nothing, absolutely nothing else was working for me.. Now I feel incredible, I’m really lean and happy. This is life now

Blood insulin is much more important indicator than calories. 2k cal of junk food vs 2k of clean keto is going to result in much difference response by your body. A calorie isn’t a calorie

My gut was always telling me my fasting window was 12 hours. Now I know by watching your video that it was a good decision for me since I thought I would overeat if I did more and the fact that one or the other window is necessary better for weight loss was a light bulb moment for me. Thanks Julian for educating me more on this topic 😁

Started doing keto about a month ago together with intermittent fasting. Now that I no longer eat carby, starchy foods I find I hardly have any hunger feelings, on days that I'm off work I can get to 18 hours of fasting without much problems. At times I'll eat more because I feel I have to, rather than that I'm hungry. I'm not striving to go to one meal a day, I'm kinda drifting towards it.
Before this, I couldn't stay not hungry for more than a few hours and was snacking all the time.

I find I eat less calories if I eat during just 10 hours a day. It's a way of finding discipline around when to eat during the course of 10 hours. Eating while watching t.v. at night used to be a problem but the fasting helps with it enormously. And then there are all the great health benefits too!

I intuitively do intermittent fasting. I start eating quite late in the day. I can go quite far into the day without feeling hungry but once I start I need my meals and snacks. I try to cut myself off in the evening after a snack after supper because I could just snack all evening out of habit/boredom.

I have no difficulty reaching the 16 to 18 or 20 hour threshold but in the morning I do enjoy my expresso with sugar free French Vanilla coffee syrup added for my morning 100 mile commute to Dallas. The birds were a nice distraction from the unreadable shirt and the sassy hair style. But her view and lack of ability to get past 13 hours of IF shows real lack of commitment.

You know you birds stole the show 🤣🤣🤣 I have been intermittently fasting for over 2years know and often do anything between 16 to 20hours. I found the difference between me being hungry or not is what was my last meal. If it was carb light, heavy on green veg I am usually fine. If I eat rubbish or have alcohol - I am starving. Water helps enormously.

So the time you spend sleeping counts, right? I've heard it doesn't and it does.. so technically if you eat dinner at 6pm, you can eat breakfast at 7am? That's where I get confused because how is this any different?

    • @MystiqueRoz
      @MystiqueRoz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes sleeping counts in your fasting window. If you look at other videos they recommend 16/8 protocol when starting IF. I don’t think you really get the full benefits of fasting doing 12/12 especially when you do more research. I personally have been doing OMAD and loving it.

Thanks for the vlog on this topic. There is mucho info about intermittent fasting out there, but not a lot as it pertains to weight loss. Now it makes sense why (because that is not what it is designed to. Weight loss could be incidental, but not the target). We all have to find what works best for each of us.
