I think there's some merit to the 'rushed animators reusing the gun' hypothesis, because they did rush the flashback scenes after turning the movie into a pseudo-reboot. All the designs were rushed actually; many of the Cybertronian designs reuse bits from each other, and none were meant to transform. Props to Hasbro for making such cohesive alt modes when they never even existed prior.

@@L0rdskywarp possibly. I wanted to cover ratchet recently, but the script just wasn't working. I'm probably picking up Ironhide today though (importing, not locally), so maybe having the two of them will give me the missing piece that makes the script work.
Really appreciate the integration of the transparent plastic too - it's JUST that little window there, as a separate clip-on piece, instead of casting the entire front-roof out of it like Hasbro occasionally does. Just helps make the toy feel a lot more solid. I also love how if you don't like the driller-tank thing, you can flip the 5mm post on the front down to reveal grill detailing, so you can make him just a regular Cybertronian buggy if you don't like the driller aspect for whatever reason. It's just nice to have options on how you want your figure to look. Brawn is one of the few situations where I don't really feel all that upset about limited articulation - he's a huge bulky guy with armor plating thicker than a spaceship, of course he's not gonna be doing athletics on it - but his toes being unable to bend forward at all has made some poses very difficult or awkward. I like a lot of the transformation steps on him - the video pointed out the feet, but I also like how the front cockpit compresses into his back, that's a really fun way of bulking out a vehicle mode without sacrificing on-screen accuracy.
Apart from being a G1 reference, maybe the drill makes Brawn some sort of mining vehicle, though given the placement of the drill I'm not sure how effective he would be as such, unless he's just drilling a hole for some sort of explosive to stuck in to so he can blast his way through something, though he could probably just punch his way through depending on the thickness of the obstruction. On a side note, is it just me or just the windshield area look like Doomguy's helmet?
If I remember right Brawn's original character bio described him as the Autobot's demolition expert. Maybe that drill comes in handy for hollowing out holes to put bombs in or maybe to clear a path to get out of all the rubble from destroyed Cybertronian buildings.

This Brawn is nearly perfect. As you said, the only thing he lacks is a swivel above the elbow. But the best part is that they made an amazing toy of Brawn, that represents perfectly his animation model, while giving him a unique alt mode that works with a simple transformation. They only had a robot mode to work with and they came up with a functional alt mode with a G1 reference, a fun transformation and no kibble whatsoever. He may be one of my favorite Studio Series figures that aren't 86.
His armor makes me think of the Turian armor in Mass Effect. Also, for weapon storage, I usually plug the drill into the barrel of the gun, then attaching the gun to Brawn's back.
Brawn a.k.a. Man at arms in a He-Man X Transformers Crossover I had to admit, the Bumblebee movie SS figures didn't take my attention at their announcement, but now they made a place in my hearth, and soon enough, in my shelf too.
I wanna see a review for that War for Cybertron Optimus Prime. I’ve wanted that figure FOREVER and I wanna see how well animated he can be in your hands
10:52 perspective end made a really good take on this, saying that it gives the feeling they all got their guns from the same manufacturer. It’s a nice headcannon that should be used more often. It also saves time and budget for cgi designing like Optimus’s faceplate.
Brawn is my only Cybertron bee bot and I’m happy he’s my only choice. The weapon is nice but the drill paired with siege Soundwave’s stick gun as an underslung drill equipment, I made him a miner in my collection and really gives him a good use of his strength outside wrestling the big bots to the ground in battle
Brawn is such a cool Character,I hope that we'll get an Energon Gauntlet Upgrade kit for him as a referance to his Canceled Universe toy from 2003 since it's stated in his bio that he has Indestructable Fists.
A year late but I really value your vehicle mode opinions and I’m very affirmed to know this one makes you happy as well. I’m sad one of the upgrade kits floating out there in the world wasn’t a fit in melty energon cubes that could sit in his vehicle mode cavity and then lay on the floor next to him as like a display piece
The way the Legs transform is very similar to the transformers AOE strafe figure. The legs fold into themselves to create smaller legs in the Dino mode.
This may get lost but I just want to comment on this video to let you know that I throughly enjoyed it a lot! The delivery of information combined with a hint of humor is great, the stop motion visuals are very much appreciated, and it is well concise and straight to the point! I’ll be sticking around for more
Picked up Brawn for my birthday recently and yeah, wow, just excellent in almost every way. I have the same gripes about the biceps but what a fantastic little pocket size bruiser he be!
I believe you can stick the drill into the barrel of the gun, turning it into some kind of massive industrial handheld mining drill. Still stupid? Yeah kinda, I suppose so. Less stupid than everything else you can do with the drill bit in robot mode? I'd say so. That sword thing just isn't doing it for me.
I am proved my Braun by cutting off the part of the bicep piece that covers up the upper shoulder and gluing that part directly to the shoulder giving him a more standard bicep swivel
I was waiting in patience 'til your going to Review some of the Bumblebee Movie SS line. My favorite so far is Arcee, I don't have her yet but I saw PrimevsPrime Review of her and she is just amazing.
This Brawn managed to be reminiscent of the G1 character yet not look like the “Little Lad” who dances for “Berries and Cream”. It’s the first time Brawn looked cool, IMO, but there might be other versions I’m just not aware of. Either way, this is a cool Brawn with that Juggernaut-like helmet 😎 .

I think I figured out what this Brawn is supposed to be (and by that I mean what his job was) he was would mine minerals and energon on Cybertron, I mean he has an open truck bed on the back, and a drill on the front, it would also fit his character, so that's what I'm going with
the most successful movie design alongside the seekers, wheeljack is awesome, then optimus is great but flawed in his proportions. awesome awesome figure and perfect design

I can understand why from a toy standpoint, each character would have his unique weapon, but what is the in-universe explanation? Are Transformers born with guns, so that everybody has a unique gun along with their unique body-type? When a Transformer loses their gun, do they run around in a panic searching for it like we do when we lose our phone? Re: CSA-approved boots, LOL!
Half the reason I want this guy is the drill for another TF custom. The cockpit almost looks like BB/CJ outline, so I wonder if it wasn’t originally designed as one of their alt modes? The back could also be an alt look for him. 🧐🤔 If they ever do a MOTU/TF crossover, this is totally Man-at-Arms. 😉
This is one of the funny things people dont notice about some brawn toys and i dont think even hasbro does this intentionally. The generic autobot blaster that both jack and brawn are using in the movie resembles a small megatron fusion cannon. Its funnier to brawn as he yoinked megs gun in a G1 episode.

I chalked up the rifle similarity to the Autobots being on the back foot, and using weapons from a scavenged cache.

There's a fleck on the speck on the tail on the frog on the bump on the branch on the log in the hole in the bottom of the sea.

I like to think that brawn realized he messed up his alt mode with the giant hole leaving his head exposed, so that’s why he has that giant helmet lol
