Rossella and Nonna Romana, made these today and they are exactly like the original Stella D'oro. Thank you for sharing!!! Great channel love your Recipes.
growing up these were what my nonna made almost once a week.these were what she called "every day cookies",meaning they werent fancy party cookies or a traditional holiday cookie.she only ever made S and O shapes and i always wondered if there was a reason why only those 2 shapes were ever made.we had stella d'oro here in chicago too, maybe the idea for the S shape did come from them?i love your nonna, she is a sweetheart!
love these tooo i cant wait to bake God Bless you Rossella and Nona stay safe durning this quartine I will make these for my family thank you Buon note choy
My husband loves these cookies ,they look delish,I used to do similar recipe I used to make a lighter dough and then drop them by tablespoonfuls on cookie sheet and bake
Omgoodness! 😮 I'm really excited now! 😊 At the beginning of the video a lady is holding a green baseball type squash. What is the name of it please? My father would grow these and my mother made a wonderful meal from it. I wish I could make it. Could you help me please?
I made them!! They came out pretty good for my first time! My son (5 1/2) asked me, "Mommy, do you know how to make the other letters? They are all "S" " lol
To be 5 again, right? :-) You just never know what they'll 'share' with strangers! lol What's on the menu today....I want to make something. I defrosted Cod fish......Have a great day...
Hey, that butter-oil thing is ditto for India. Up north most preparations use butter/tup but down south we largely use oil. Both Italy and India have many similarities culinary ethic wise. Both countries love our Nonnas cooking. Every Nonna has her own recipe for same dish. Fork and Knives are for demons, we use our hands to eat. And we never measure our ingredients. Love Italian Food.
I should have used my stand mixer and watched this video BEFORE making my dough lol I found this same recipe in another place and it had poor instructions I ended up needing maybe 2 more cups of flour too, my dough was more like batter!
You showed us how to make the S cookies but you never gave us the ingredients like a cup of this I could see you with four eggs how much lemon that you put in you didn't give that and we need that.
kath448 you can make knots with this dough if you want. Classic knot cookies are usually made with butter instead of olive oil but you could totally try it with this dough
kath448 these are not anisette flavored. You can certainly make them into knots but they won't be the traditional knot Cookie. I have some great knot cookie recipes on the cooking with nonna website, just haven't gotten around to filming an episode for them yet! 😘
I hear that all the time! (not from my Nonna....sadly she's no longer with us :-( )but from a very special lady I hear, Georgeanne, don't buy anything if it's not on sale! It's really so true. That generation didn't get where they are by being impractical!!
Nonna so determined to get ALL the dough! 🤣🤣🤣 Too cute!
I can't wait to have these with a cup if coffee! Thanks for sharing! 👍🏼👌🏼☕️
Great video. Good job Rosella and Nonni

Nice! Now I can enjoy one of my favorite cookies without all the unnecessary additives like folic acid.

Trish Iannone yes you can freeze them!! My nonna freezes every Cookie imaginable!

Tina Settimi Yes, you can if you want to!
Recipe for Italian s cookies
Hi Nonna,
Do you have a video on how to make biscotti with anisette liqueur?
I should have used my stand mixer and watched this video BEFORE making my dough lol
I found this same recipe in another place and it had poor instructions
I ended up needing maybe 2 more cups of flour too, my dough was more like batter!
could you swap out the lemon zest and add anise extract instead?
Hi i would love to make this recipie but i dont see it
Let me know how i can get it
Grazi tanto
Have you ever used Anise extract instead of lemon?
Ariane Santacroce i haven't. You totally can try it if you want to. This is just how nonna makes them and she's a bit of a creature of habit lol
What are the measurements of the ingredients!!??
Are these the same or similar to the Italian cookies Theresa gave Marisa who threw it in the trash?
Could I have the recipe I can’t seem to find it
No store bought cookies, and don't you dare ask for Chef Boyardee!!!
Hahaha......
I hope you subscribed to my channel!!!!
Yes, I've been subbed quite a while.
I have extra virgin olive oil,veg oil and canola and no olive oil. Which one would you choose? thanks
lisa skrelja I guess vegetable oil but they really come out better with the Olive oil
Id mix the extra virgin olive oil with some vegetable oil to mellow it out
Did I miss how much of everything u put in ?
nice
Why are the introductions so long? This is youtube not the food network
my favourite cookie,, ~ ♡ >//
Can we use lemon extract than zest?..and what will be the measurement for that?..
Spread Peace you can if you like, I’d use 1/2-1 Teaspoon depending on how strong you want the flavor
Thanks for your quick reply...
I made this cookies yesterday..it came out sooo good...my kids loved...thank you sooo much...
Spread Peace that’s wonderful!! I’m so glad!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ciao ci puo avere la ricetta Precisa di quando grammi le porzioni Grazie!,,
Im Patty from Greeley Pa,in the Poconos
Post your recipe please
where are the Measurements for cookies ??
Linda Malnati 3:13
I used the 41/2 cups of flour. It made the dough very hard
You showed us how to make the S cookies but you never gave us the ingredients like a cup of this I could see you with four eggs how much lemon that you put in you didn't give that and we need that.
No salt?
how many cookies does this make ?
Gianluca Caputo about 25
+Rossella's Cooking with Nonna grazie mille le faccio oggi !
Sicilians- no store bought cookies, NO WAY. LOL
Why not extra virgin olive oil?
can you make knots too??? or are they a different cookie??? Knot cookies?? thank you
kath448 I haven't done a video for Knot Cookies yet!! I will do one soon! :)
Thank you for a reply....i thought the batter might be the same.
kath448 you can make knots with this dough if you want. Classic knot cookies are usually made with butter instead of olive oil but you could totally try it with this dough
anisette knot cookies can be made with butter or oil.....i would like a good recipe for them....thank you for great recipes
kath448 these are not anisette flavored. You can certainly make them into knots but they won't be the traditional knot Cookie. I have some great knot cookie recipes on the cooking with nonna website, just haven't gotten around to filming an episode for them yet! 😘
Rosa and Nonna, no sale?
Just made these cookies, came out dry and no taste of lemon what so ever, will not make again
Ok Rossella....what if I used EVOO???
membernypd you can buy the flavor may be a little too strong
Shoprite is having their Can Can sale! I knew I should've bought a tin of Pure Olive Oil....better go get a couple
membernypd lol get them while they're on sale! That's what Nonna would do! ;)
I hear that all the time! (not from my Nonna....sadly she's no longer with us :-( )but from a very special lady I hear, Georgeanne, don't buy anything if it's not on sale! It's really so true. That generation didn't get where they are by being impractical!!
got it...
Made them following the recipe. They do not taste like cookies, rather like bread dipped in olive oil. Horrible and a waste of good ingredients!
J
Tedious to listen to. Leave it to nonna to speak!
