      jozef adam beňo he's torn between the right thing and his father. The ring tempted him into the latter. Then in his final moments he overcomes the temptation of the ring and chooses the right thing.
      However I can of prefer Faramir, his whole life his father has treated him like he doesn't exist, everything is always about Boromir. Faramir is never treated with respect and is just as noble and honourable as Boromir. But they are both 2 great characters

      Maybe, but the scene in general is completely stupid - Gandalf has his staff destroyed by Witchking like he was not the most powerful wizard that moment.

    • @BasePuma4007
      @BasePuma4007 4 ปีที่แล้ว +68

      @@marekkrzyszczak4759 Yeah, it's a bit head scratching. Since he's Maiar you'd think the scene isn't correct with respect to the lore, but I think things are a bit ambiguous. The witch king is the most powerful of Saurons servants and basically directly wields the terror and malice of his master. Perhaps the witch king in his most powerful state had the strength to match Gandalf or even defeat him since Sauron was a banished former Maiar, at least thats what some people argue. But even without his staff Gandalf was an absolute force not to be taken lightly by anyone, even the witch king.

    • @MrSRA13
      @MrSRA13 4 ปีที่แล้ว +64

      @@BasePuma4007 the scene differs to the book with the fact the witch king breaks Gandalfs staff but it's similar in that we don't get to see what happens. Gandalf likely would have done something. The key line is 'This is my hour.' So I totally agree with your point. The stronger Sauron is, the stronger the Witch-King is, and in that moment the forces of Mordor were winning. It also makes the Witch-King seem more menacing for the viewers from a movie perspective. I didn't really have a major problem with it.

    I'm glad we get so much more of Sam and Frodo in Mordor in the extended version. The whole story has been leading up to them getting to Mordor, and then it's so brief in the theatrical cut. There are a lot of additions added that (while they kind of change the flow of the movie at times) feel like they belong and honestly, there are a lot of really good scenes in the Extended Edition. These definitely should have been included. The first one adds to Boromir's character a lot, the Witch King vs Gandalf is great due to the sudden realization of Rohan's arrival, and the others are great because they add to Tolkien's vision due to them being a part of the book (aside from Aragorn chopping the Mouth of Sauron's head off which I would have liked to see changed to be more accurate).

It's awesome seeing Gondor have a win, heroic Boromir, the loving fraternity between the sons of Denethor, the deeper context of their difficult relationships with him as well as the context of Boromir's mission and being sent by Denethor somewhat against his will. You know what’s nuts is if you watch the behind the scenes on RotK CG scenes, they were changing and adding scenes so ridiculously fast, they were rendering each CG scene in like 1-2 days time because that’s all that had time for as opposed to a week or more in the Fellowship. Literally altering and adding right up until late November when they had to have reels ready to ship worldwide for a DECEMBER RELEASE! The graphics team were sleeping in their conference room so they could just wake up and work before the deadlines and some even had marriages break down due to the stress.
      Like seriously, what film or television series has anything close to that level of dedication from its team??

    The first time I ever watched the theatrical release of LoTR was during the first lockdown in 2020, as it was on Netflix. It's crazy how much these extra scenes, amongst others, made the films even better. I feel sorry - and jealous - for people that haven't watched the Extended versions yet.

    Witch King breaking Gandalf staff will always be my favourite. Show of power, such a cool scene.
