AFFILIATE LINK DISCLOSURE: Friends, making a quality Loloho video is kind of like making sausage - only slightly more violent. It's a ridiculous amount of work that typically involves high dollar camera drops, blue-screen-of-death computer crashes, and at least one angry shotgun wielding old man shouting, “Hey! Get the hell outta here!” Once the final video is posted, rewards here on TH-cam are few and far between (unless you are a masochist who enjoys being verbally abused by anonymous trolls). One saving grace is our affiliate links. JUST CLICKING THESE LINKS HELPS TO SUPPORT OUR LITTLE SHOW. Think of this clicking as like tipping - except that it doesn't cost you anything extra! If you eventually make a purchase via one of our affiliate links, we will receive a few pennies (and Sean typically invests these pennies in duct tape and video gear). Again, it doesn't cost you anything to click these links, and it's a great help to us. As always, safe travels, happy camping, and THANK YOU!

I pulled into a rest area in Mississippi and there were signs that said no overnight parking. I asked the onsite Security if there was a place that I could park and charge up batteries and just rest a bit but not take up spaces that trucks might need. He showed me where to park and then told me I could stay until the morning and wouldnt' be bothered. Kudos and many thanks to the State of Mississippi.

Depends on the Church big time. It's usually parishiners that are the security, and freakout for anything out of ordinary. So, just ask, and usually not a problem unless you have heavy metal paintings on the side and we can't tell if it's abadoned RV or not.

That's very encouraging to hear! My husband and I will be going to a church conference in a different state and wondered about that! We just bought a motor home because we were tired of paying for hotels and getting dirty rooms. 😕 Of course we'd call first to see if it's okay with the church. 👍🏿

We stayed overnight at a Cracker Barrel and Flying J on our first long RV trip from PA to Florida. Both had RV parking. I asked permission, both places had designated RV parking. At the Cracker Barrel we were the only ones when we got there, but the RV lot was full by morning. In both places I felt that it was safe place to park overnight.

I am glad through out the video you say to call first and stay only 1 night. I am a manager at Home Depot and you would not believe how often i chase people off our property who think it is their right to live there. Sometimes even having to call the police to have them removed. It dosnt matter how much space there is or how big the parking lot is, it is private property. people need to remember and respect that. Stay one night, dont make a mess and move on

If you are a moose lodge member you can park overnight for free , there are 2400 moose lodges in the u.s. and Canada . The people are friendly and often times they have home cooked meals on certain nights . I know people who pretty much travel from lodge to lodge . Also many lodges have there own campgrounds .

I've stayed overnight in hospital parking lots. They are usually pretty full of vehicles and have vehicles coming and going all hours of the day and night so it is easy to stealth in them, if you are in a van or smaller RV. A larger RV may be doable in a larger hospital's parking lot if you stay out in the fringe areas of the lot.

I was told by a Wal Mart manger not to ask. If you ask, walmart assumes liability cause they know your there. If you dont ask technically your trespassing and Wally World has no liability. Cabela's and Bass Pro shops same place. Eastern PA has two. They have dog kennels, water and dump stations. Very accommodating to rv'ers.

I used to deliver camping trailers and motorhomes to dealers from the factories. One of my favorite spots has turned out to be church parking lots, except for Saturday night's. I have even filled my water tank with their spickets, on my personal camper. Stopping on the car side of rest parks and taking up a few spaces has also worked well and I've never had a problem.

Our most frequent problem with casinos is the smoking. And yes they often times have small dedicated areas for non-smokers but sometimes they don't have doors to them and then you just smell the same amount of smoke as you do anywhere else in the casino. But we do think them for allowing us to Camp there

TIP: To deal with loud sounds and running trucks, we use a meditation sound machine to sleep to. It makes Rain, Thunder, Wind, Brook/Stream, Forest and AC Fan. This is much easier to train yourself to sleep to and it usually blocks out noises like heavy trucks or Semi Refers pretty good. We discovered this because we lived for decades next to a Garbage Truck company. We REALLY love being out and about now and the sound machine (I think $19 from Bed Bath and Beyond) was a great find. We recently seen a new one with clock and alarm and mood lighting with sound machine at Aldi's Grocery store on their gift/item isle. We might stop at one and get it to retire the old one.

So if I may ask you, and please believe me when I say I'm not trying to start anything negative - is there as much animosity among truckers toward RV'ers as I've heard some folks claim? If so, what can be done to ease it? I've never had any problems myself.

    • @rosssmith9870

@@jimloth6091 As a trucker for 38 years I can tell you a small percentage of drivers resent RVs in "their" parking spots especially if the parking is full. They are working and subject to federal hours of service rules. You can actually be risking damage to your rig parking (AMONG) the big rigs. When parking at truck stops try not to park (AMONG) the big rigs and you should be okay. Four wheel RVs parked in a regular car spot are of no concern. If the truck stop has an RV section that shouldn't be a problem either. Sure, RVs park with the big trucks but you should realize your taking more of a risk.

As a converted Mini-van Gypsies my wife and I always find places to spend the night .Casino Parking, Truck Stops , Park And Rides, Churches , Bowling Alleys, Hospital parking lots . My van is stealth It had it's own refillable water supply , Roof top shower , Portable gas generator that is quite quiet. Solar Panel that will run a hot plate , a single Coleman burner . Blacked out windows. and a Pee tube with a P-trap, tank, and a drain built it . Using a my portable crapper is a bit tough in parking lots , so I just go inside where we park . Airport parking lots are also a great place. 8 bucks a night to sleep is not bad . Apartment house parking visitors parking is also a good option . Always park away from the main entrance

When I had my travel trailer I preferred picnic areas to rest stops here in Texas and Oklahoma because of the quiet and lack of traffic in most cases. I have found that some very small towns do have a few places for overnighters near their police stations. In fact, one place had a $1 overnight fee payable at the PD desk inside! Talk about a safe place to sleep...

I travel in a van with a bed in it so it's somewhat easier for me. I've parked at truck stops and try to find the most unobtrusive place to park. Often in the parking lot
under a lighed area. Then in the morning I'll get breakfast there and fill up with gas. It's important to respect everybody.
Also, I stayed at casino in the overflow parking lot. I thought I'd go in and loose ten dollars to pay for my overnight parking but what happened was I played
a slot for about fourty minutes and left with an extra ten dollars. I tried.
State camp grounds aren't free but they're usually not very expencive and quite often have showers and very nice natural scenery.

Great tips! I have stayed at all of the mentioned locations. I generally prefer a Cracker Barrel which I like their breakfast anytime. A truck stop with the designated RV spots is nice and they also usually have a nice restaurant like a Dennys, dump, water, propane are available, and you can freshen up with a nice LONG hot shower! Saves on depending on the resources of the RV.
I will not stay at a truck stop that doesn't have the designated RV spots. Truckers need the space!
    Thanks for sharing the tips!

The truck stops have RV parking cause they don't care about the drivers, they try to make money they don't care how.
Again we are not there by choise, we're one a schedule this means that
      1) if I'm short on time and your in line at cashier, I may have to leave and might not get food that day or water.
      2) I was in a area where there was no truck stop and need a shower and your in line for a shower, then I might have to go more days without a shower.
All because you were there unnecessarily.

    Arkansas
    Connecticut
Illinois (only on Illinois Toll Road)
Indiana (only on Indiana Toll Road)

Now that truck driver will have to drive another couple of hours probably violating his logbook trying to find a place to sleep so he doesn't kill your wife and kids in a minivan.

I slept in a California Hwy 5 rest stop on the front seat of my quad cab truck. If you're exhausted enough you don't even hear traffic! I crashed for 7 blissful hours after driving from near the Canadian border! A first experience for me, but I could not drive another mile. Any port in a storm!!!

As a retired Over the Road Trucker, thank you for saying "stay out of the trucker park areas". For us it's a LEGAL issue when to park and where. For you it's convenience. Don't park with the rigs period please. Also if a lot looks empty, wait and see what happens later in the day. All the best out there.

@@Daggercrossover Hi Steve for sure do what you need to do. My point wasn't really clear. Empty trucker parking areas are very hard to find in much of the country. Trucks parking on off ramps isn't safe. Anyhow Hope you have as much fun RVing as my wife and I do.
      Cheers.

Colorado Springs has outlawed RV parking unless in a RV Park. No streets, no Walmart, nothing! Just North of the city, in Monument, is a very nice Walmart that is RV friendly.

I might add, that many fast food places have Truck/RV parking, as well as many smaller mom/pop restaurants. In the Keystone State, there are numerous pull over and rest areas to be found(although a bit noisy with late night semi-truck traffic going by).

I dig the "where's Seemore" drone footage. Great video! We live by Cabelas (best so far is Hamburg, PA.) and have stayed at quite a few. We've stayed at THE ABSOLUTE BEST pullout EEVVAA in Newfoundland! On the way to Niagra Falls, we had to pull over in Rochester, NY. at a truck stop. There were some "lurkers", but they did their thing and left. We really enjoy using our TT in the heat of battle on the road, generator, cooking, and staying out in the wild of humanity. The "spidey sense" does have to come into effect sometimes and we just leave. Looking forward to a UP trip in the Summer.

As a trucker, I can tell you that there is a national shortage of parking for us drivers. Rest areas, truckstops, pull overs, and other place like this is our only really parking. We have to plan ahead and so should you. As a RVer too, I have park at casino, Box stores, Hardware stores and even called the last minute to rv park to get a spot at night so I will not take up a spot from a driver that is working. But then again, I am usually driving by 0500 and stopping by 1700 that night. I can relax and have alittle fun instead of worrying about a place to park. I only had one issue but I managed to get it to a box store and next morning, fix the issue. Part store was next door.
Yes these spots are free, but just remember that a truckers need it more then you. You are supposed to be having fun not stuck a rest area or truck stop.

Thank you so much! I appreciate the information. I don’t know what it is, though, I love sleeping at rest areas. I have lived in the country my entire life, but something about the noises of traffic and people moving around makes me sleep better. I’ve been told it’s where it keeps you in a lighter sleep, so it’s not good long term. Lol. Thanks again!

Good info, thanks. Watch that truck stop thing. An RV parked at an odd angle at a truck stop that I was in overnight in Ohio. I had an early morning delivery not far away. Good thing I woke up early. It took some skilled maneuvering to get my truck out of that situation. I consider that an isolated incident. I ask the RVers out there to watch out for that type of situation.

my friends that have a classa a motor home, have stayed at big hotel parking lots, you may have to pay 24 hour parking, but its usually cheap, and they have gone swimming in the pools and sometimes worked out in the hotel gym, and of course eaten , at the ones that have restraunts.

Thank you for your courtesy I was a trucker for 28 years a lot of those spots are definitely needed for trucks I have seen RVs in crowded truck stops where tired truckers would come in myself being one of them and have to find another place to go because an RV was there and I too enjoy my RV plus like you said it's extremely noisy at night when you're trying to sleep even myself would try to park way away from reefer trailers they just drive me crazy

A place you might check out Michigan is State Forest Campgrounds. All but 4 are first come first served, that said they have vault toilets and no running ( a pump) but hey it's a place to stay. They're probably pretty crowded on the weekend, us michiganders like our fishing but during the week I wouldn't think it would be a problem, especially before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. I also wouldn't pull in there with a 43 ft. Diesel Pusher.

I've had good luck scouting truck stops via Google Maps satellite and street views. Sometimes they have dedicated RV spots or just available pull-through spots that will work. Sometimes they have a gravel overflow area that doesn't tend to fill up. Some of them also have awkward hard-to-use spots in corners or where signs are partially blocking the spot so they work OK for a small or medium RV but not a semi.
