    I've assisted quite a few family members obtain their TSA-Pre-check and Global Entries. It's important to note that approval time varies throughout the year. I've seen some turn around in a week and others take 6+ months.
    Simply stated, if you're thinking about obtaining one or both of these, start today! Better to have it early than to hope it is approved at the last minute.

    Apply for "Nexus" and you get easy crossing of the US/Canadian border,TSA Prececk *and* Global Entry.A card costs $50 for 5 years. The only drawback is that an interview by a US *and* a Canadian border official is required. They done at the border. So if getting to an interview spot at the border it might be a problem.

    I applied for Global Entry as TSA pre check is included plus I can use it when I travel internationally. I actually applied for it because I almost missed my connection when I was coming back from abroad and there was a long line for custom and another line for security. I got my conditional approval 6 weeks from when I applied and the day before I was coming back from Spain. That was great because I was able to do the enrollment on arrival, was approved and received my card a week later.

    We recently traveled and have TSA pre. Due to staff shortages the line was closed. We were told the only line open was in a separate terminal, so we had to go to the very back of the regular line. Fortunately a Clear representative heard us telling security we were going to miss our flight, so she signed us up and walked us to the front of the line. We were still the last to board as we ran to the gate and they were announcing the gate would be closing and said our family name over the speakers. It was ridiculous. I understand the benefits of TSA Pre, though they have long lines at times, no staff and closed lines, randomly select you out of the line because...what...there are too many people projected to be in the line...that's inane. So, we're now going to purchase Clear for the family as well. Clear can walk you to the front of the regular line and TSA Pre.

    • @JaclyTravel
      @JaclyTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is THE WORST. That happened to us once traveling back from an international trip where you have to go back out of security (I think it was in Denver?). I have heard Clear works pretty well - but besides that one time, have had no problems with TSA Precheck, so I will stick with that.

      That is so great. One of the perks of being in a large city too - they have a lot of people to do interviews. When I did mine (10 months later), it was a little office near the airport with one guy inside. No wonder it took so long.

  • @ganymedes62

    Something important that most Americans tend to forget is that TSA precheck isn't available for foreign countries, but Global Entry is. The US has made Global Entry available to the folowing: Citizens of Argentina, Brazil, India, Colombia, United Kingdom, Germany, The Netherlands, Panama, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan and Mexican nationals.
    As I'm a citizen of The Netherlands, I have applied and there will be additional steps as your local border agency will be asked to perform the initial background check. It's not really a big deal and you can then do an Interview upon Arrival at most major airports in the US.

      @@JaclyTravel Had my interview just last Tuesday at Schiphol, my hometown airport and got fully approved. The CBP officer was super friendly and I was in and out in probably 5 minutes, with most of the time being spent on taking my mugshot and fingerprints 🙂
      Now interviews aren't usually held at Schiphol but I guess they did it this week because Global Entry only became available for Dutch citizens on June 28th of last year. I've already added my KTN to my flight reservation for next June and look forward to the experience of using the Global Entry kiosk at Atlanta airport 🙂

  • @jalabi99
    @jalabi99 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If it's a choice between TSA PreCheck and Global Entry, get Global Entry every time! It's no-brainer!
    Global Entry ($100 for 5 years) costs only $15 more than TSA PreCheck ($85 for 5 years) but *Global Entry includes TSA PreCheck!* So it doesn't make sense to get TSA PreCheck & then later try to get Global Entry because you will have to spend another $100 & go through another interview. And while TSA PreCheck only works for domestic air travel, Global Entry works for domestic air travel, for returning to the USA from international air travel, for international land travel (coming back to the USA by road from Canada or by road from Mexico), and for returning to the USA from international sea travel.
    Get Global Entry, and get the free Mobile Passport app! It's a no-brainer!

    • @JaclyTravel
      @JaclyTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! It may take a little longer but in my opinion, is well worth it for the global entry.

  • @Brandis13
    @Brandis13 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Switzerland is one of the foreign countries where you can apply for Global Entry since a few years now. I wanted to apply when it first became available but then the pandemic happened and all our travel plans ground to a halt anyways. Finally, we are now travelling to Florida again in May and all of a sudden I remembered that I should apply for Global Entry. On the website it said that approval might take up to 6 months because of backlogs, but I still applied yesterday. So I was pretty shocked when I received my conditional approval today already! 🙂 I'll do the arrival interview so I don't need an appointment, but out of curiosity I checked what availability they have in Orlando and the next available date would be in June!!! Crazy!

    • @JaclyTravel
      @JaclyTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow! You can apply for US Global Entry in Switzerland? That is amazing - I had no idea! Let me know how the appointment goes, and congrats on that!

      @Brandis13 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Looking forward to it! As I understand it, it‘s a separate line than the regular immigration officers, so hopefully that will also be a bit less of a wait.
      Actually, citizens of Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Argentina, India, Colombia, Panama, Singapore, South Korea, and Mexican nationals are eligible for Global Entry membership. The need to get pre-approvement from their local federal police agency before sending in their application to CBP.

    I applied for Global, was conditionally accepted, but the only places to go in Florida for an interview were Miami and Ft Myers. Orlando, Tampa, Sanford were not taking appointments. So I called the Orlando TSA and they said no Global interview until people come back from trip. So, my idea of a better TSA experience is out until I come home. Crazy. But I will do it and will call my son to pick me up after the the interview. It will just add hours to my trip home. A nine hour flight plus however long it takes. Lovely. However once it’s over I will be happy.
    I will say they told me I would get my approval immediately, but it is a bit aggravating.

    • @JaclyTravel
      @JaclyTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does work though! You don't get TSA Precheck on your way out but it's nice to just be able to do your interview on the way back in - that is really the best option for so many people.

      Hmm I am not sure. I know TSA precheck let's kids in, but even that is not 100% of the time. I would get it for the kids to guarantee they can come through.

    What about kids does it include them or you gotta pay separate?

    I had my interview a month ago and they gave me the paper with TSA number on the bottom but I haven’t received my Global entry card and no email either.

      Hi! Did you have a TSA Precheck interview or Global Entry interview? And does your number start with letters or numbers? If you applied for GE, you can go on their site and login to your account and re-order a card if it never arrived.

    If you already have precheck, can you add global entry? I do I have to overlap and pay for full global when I've already paid for pre check and have 3 years left

    • @JaclyTravel
      @JaclyTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately not. TSA Precheck and Global Entry are run by 2 different orgs, so you will have to pay for Global Entry. I had to do that too. Your TSA Precheck number will change once you are approved for Global Entry.

    For TSA pre check, what happens if you move? Do you have to notify them? Does it cost more money?

    • @JaclyTravel
      @JaclyTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm good question! If you move within the country, you should probably notify them. But if you move out of the country there is probably a whole different procedure. But you can do it all within your account.

    My husband and I have global entry. How would it work for people with kids?

    • @JaclyTravel
      @JaclyTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I’m not an expert, but according to some quick searches I just did, kids can apply for both global entry and tsa precheck.
      They will not be able to go through with you in the global entry line. However, if they’re 12 or younger, it looks like they can go through the tsa precheck line with you. But it may be worth it to have each of them apply so you can all go through.

      @@JaclyTravel Last year. I filled out the application and then went to Staples. Our local Staples was walk in so no appointment necessary. A few days later I went to the TSA website to check my status. They said they would send a letter but my KTN was on the status report.

    TSA Precheck work for Mexico without a Global Entry pass?

    • @JaclyTravel
      @JaclyTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      TSA Precheck and Global Entry both only work in the US - TSA precheck when you board your plane in the US (whether domestic or international) and Global Entry when you are returning to the US from an international trip (including Mexico). Neither of them work in other countries.
      Also - Global Entry includes TSA Precheck, so you can use it when boarding a plane in the US too.

    Why do you have to give your email PASSWORD in the online application for Trusted Traveler ( required for Global Entry)

      I did not have to give my email password - I think it’s a different password to set up your actual account.

    Would you have any tips about calling TSA? Or what a good customer service ph # is. We applied for TSA about 6 weeks ago and I just got my KTN. But my wife we haven't seen hers approved yet, and we applied same day.
    I have called a couple tsa ph numbers but all you get is stuck in a button push loop. I'd like to talk to a human lol ? Thanks for any advice 🙏

    • @JaclyTravel

      I do not. There is really nothing you can do but wait unfortunately. I don’t know if you watched the video, but mine was approved right away while it took my boyfriend a year. There really is no reason for it. It will come, eventually.

    How do you know the TSA is useless? Because, in the most American move ever, you can just skip it for a price!

    • @JaclyTravel
      @JaclyTravel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see your point - they do a pretty intensive background check on you before they approve you though. I have heard of a bunch of people who didn't get approved.

      @@JaclyTravel the TSA is a bad joke. They’ve failed so many audits so often that DHS doesn’t even report the results anymore. Our government knows it too, some Senators were calling for the TSA to be abolished due to their abysmal performance at their literal only job back in 2015. If there was no evidence to suggest filling airports with police academy rejects would make flying safer then, there sure isn’t now. It’s just a bunch of goons who like playing dress up and feeling up little girls. I guess you can tell about how much respect I have for the agency.
