Im a picker working at Amazon fc and tbh I really don’t like working there. However, working at Amazon has also given me the opportunity to just think about my life which I really needed, helped me decide what I really wanted, relationship, job, all that stuff. And also gave me a chance to control my overthinking or negative thinking. The short breaks are something I don’t like, it’s only 2 thirty minute breaks, IMO it’s not enough time to recover and get the mind straight for work again.
i felt exactly the same. I spent a lot of my time thinking about the dreams I want to achieve and what i needed to do to achieve them. all while I was slaving away haha. And now I'm in Japan teaching! One step closer to a bigger dream. Keep grinding until you find what you really want to do! Good luck!!
i've been watching a lot of amazon videos like this. from what i can tell, the job is super oppressive and sterile. possibly stressful, especially if you've got a lot of annoying items to pack, yet still need to meet those goals. imagine having a day where you get nothing but annoying to pack items, and you're stressing out that you could lose your job, just from having an unlucky day. i work in warehousing as well. where i have to create entire pallets of stock. but they don't put these pack rate goals onto you. as they understand each order differs in size. and warehouse upkeep like replenishing stock, and dealing with system location and stock count errors is a thing to take into account. as long as you are seen to be working hard, and you're completing the orders within a reasonable time, you're fine. And they encourage communication and banter between employees to keep up morale. they like to keep everyone happy. especially the good workers. but Amazon seems kinda fucked. i'd probably only be able to last a short time working here. Also thanks for filming this. bet it took a lot of courage to try and not get caught with the camera.
It's oppressive hidden underneath smiles. Hard workers are made to work harder. Slow workers are put in places that they don't like so they quit. To survive, be mediocre. As I mention in the video, there was a day i had to pack umbrellas over and over again. I usually don't care about my rate because i work fast and the process assistants know that i work hard. They can't afford to lose me so when they ask me why my rate is low i just tell them "because I had to pack so and so" and they usually adjust my rate somehow. They were pretty shocked when i quit lol. I wish i worked at your warehouse! Good luck and stay safe out there! And yes I'm still scared to this day that Amazon is gonna come after me because of this video lol. Thanks for watching and sharing your story!
I’m a packer and it’s a little different where I work at. The tote full of products comes down a line and we pick one up and we have to pack the box and tape it up and throw it on the conveyor-belt. Our rate is normally 70-80 boxes an hour.
@@davysanders4922 hmm i liked certain parts of both. I like being very busy and the robot facility gets extremely busy during peak. That makes it very tiring. The traditional facility is easier in terms of productivity rate but the items are heavier which has a higher risk of great injury. Overall, i think i slightly prefer the robot facility.
Whoa super cool! I have much respect for you guys! I did my best to reuse as much boxes as possible so you guys didn't have to produce as many boxes. Thanks for watching!
WOW, I've heard of the stories about Amazon workflow and this video confirms it. However, I'm still amazed that you were able to film this in Amazon warehouse.
I plan on getting a job as a packer at Amazon so I wanted to see some of the daily task I would be doing. This video was very informative. Thank you for sharing.
This reminds me of working at a Lowes distribution back in my 20's. You had a daily, and hourly quota for items, and a quota for weight loaded for non conveyable. Which made it hell when the loaders in the trailers couldn't keep up with their chutes. September and March were always the worst. September all of the bays would get bombarded with all of the christmas stuff for the stores over the span of two weeks. And March was lawn mowers and tile flooring as far as the eye could see. We would lose good people every year during those periods because they "didn't meet their quota" for a few day's straight. I'll never work at a place like that again. Even if the pay is $15 to $20 an hour.
its like this at most warehouses. Lots of people accuse amazon and fail to realize most of these other places would never give them a chance because they lack experience and some require a physical test and forklift experience.
I've been with Amazon for 3yrs now, started out as a packer, packed for about 7months. started problem solving, did that for about 5months. Updated my resume, no longer inside the facility. TOM TEAM FTW
I thought the same thing. Try ordering a big item next time. Just in terms of probability, there's so many more boxes that are being taped with water tape compared to clear tape.
Amazon has really helped the companies making boxes. The box company near me for the past 30 years was about to close every year, the other day I saw where they were adding on to the plant and hiring more workers.
That's good for the box companies. I'm glad they're growing more. I always felt bad for those companies because some of our packers waste the boxes if it's not folding properly or if it's not glued right. I try to fix them lol
This not the same around the country, in my location: PDX9 Pack: We have to tape the bottom, flip, pack, tape, label, and send on the line. (Provided label makers, tape printers, and cutter at station) Units per hour pack : 200 required, easily hitting 268 (station depending). Use to pick at about 458 UPH before I switched.
Im a picker (I use OP Pit) And i cannot stress enough how painful it its to move those umbrellas though the tiny ass space between the OP and the cage. There was one time where my whole cage was filled with umbrellas and dumbells. I had to leave early because i was about to collapse. thanks customers!
bruh, the conveyer belt shot had me on the edge of my seat, haha. I was like "surely he doesn't have enough time to bother co-workers to let them know about his camera, let alone catch it at the end". And the icing on the cake was the scanner blast.
glad I could entertain you! I was trained in almost all areas of the pack department so I knew exactly where my camera would end up haha. And yes, that was the amazon sniper catching me slacking off lol
Im also a packer on Amazon, but its qay too different. We do not put packet all the time in boxes, we aslo do bags. And we do tape it when the items are to be put in boxes.
Packing at a fulfillment center is definitely pretty different. They need a better system for restocking boxes and envelopes though especially where I am.
I packed at an FC in WA, 50 lbs or less, and we had a tape machine kinda like a small register, with buttons that dispense tape according to the box size punched in. Also all the items cane down in totes on conveyors for me. Heaviest packages I’ve packed were weights, an anvil, so much kitty litter, and Fiji water.
That was probably a robot facility! Cool i worked in one too! And I've worked with those tape machines as well. We called them water tape machines because they're water activated. I love using them!
Was thinking of applying for part time while in school. Now I really don’t know if I want to anymore, and apparently you can’t use headphones but I heard that depends on the managers.

Funny enough I applied at Amazon for a job prior to starting college but decided not to come in for the in person interview. After seeing this now I know they werent lying lmao
I'm thinking of applying for an amazon packer job here in UK, I'm fit and able to work on my feet quick. I'm self employed but most of my work is from lunch time to afternoon, money is good but want something to fill my morning, this job came up £11 an hour for 5am-9am 5 days a week. Tempting considering an extra £950 a month, its what brought me here lol. doesn't look to bad (for 4 hours anyway lol) just hope they train people properly. You seemed great at your job!
I just want to know if you get jams on the line and also that you have to do a certain quota on the items but the other items . That the other packers have to do is 200-250 boxes an hour that is mostly small items. I say that is impossible to pack 200-250 boxes per hour cause some of the items a lot like 40 books to cosmetic items with the small bar codes on them. The whole process on the packaging is so troublesome. We have to induct, rebin and pack the orders. Most of the time the items are damaged, missing or stolen and the problem with the bar codes too either they are missing, faded or not scanning
yeah jams can really slow you down. The only way to always meet the quota is by cherry picking. If there's a jam and you can't pack anymore, stop packing. They can see on the computer if there's a jam.
I worked at Walmart as an overnight stocker. It's 10x more chill. BUT, you are forced to exert yourself in stocking a shit ton of pallets in an 8 hour time span. And when someone wouldn't show, you'd be forced to help in other departments. Some of those departments (mainly if you were a guy) would be the heavy shit like furniture, pets (x10 x15 x20 x25 x30 x35 x40 x50 LBS bags of dog food), fitness (heavy weights), liquides (cartons of milk, juice, etc...) all that shit. You have to be a young guy doing that shit or you'll fuck up your back QUICK. And even then, you feel your body being worn out every time you do it. Further, after "stocking" the items, you have to throw your boxes into the baler and if you were the unlucky fool to come across a FULL bale of cardboard (baler is a machine that crushes cardboard and compacts it into a huge block that can weight anywhere from 600lbs~850lbs~) then you would have to create the bale by bringing in an empty pallet and literally pushing that heavy as thing out of the machine and onto the pallet. It's extremely unsafe if you stand by it because it can fall and tip over onto your foot. So imagine 600lbs of weight smacking you on your worn out feet xD. Once that was done, you have to take it outside into their stocking yard, or wherever they leave their bales. Sometimes you'd have to transfer it from one end of the store to the other on a pallet jack. Imagine draggin that 600lbs shit. Not to mention, you end up making multiple bales a night, not just one. So if you really are unlucky, you might be doing them every time you go throw your cardboard. That's the thing, because you work with cardboard, you get cuts and burns from the cardboard rubbing off of your skin. Shit is horrible, you def start to use lotion to ease the pain. And if you work in frozen items (I was transferred everywhere because they used my kindness of always willing to do anything) then your fingers get cut and hurt like a bitch under the freezing temperatures. Not to mention, you are forced to stay inside the freezer for HOURS, HOURS!!!! They provide dirty ass jackets for you to wear, and yes...everyone who works in frozen (day or night shift) uses those jackets. And sometimes those jackass workers leave them somewhere in the back hidden, so you sometimes end up working with no jacket if you forget to bring your own. PAIN! Oh and once you are done stocking for the night and carrying heavy shit all the time and doing 18 pallets PER department (consisting of small~large items) you have to clean up the remaining mess and "organize" the merchandize even more to make it look very appealing to the customer. Yes, we stocked the items. And we did organize already, but Walmart demands perfection. So whenever I would go in and shop during the day, my heart would sink so much when I would see kids, or people grab items and just throw them on the floor or in random spots. The daytime team is responsible to keep things organized, BUT, for the most part they don't. It's usually the OVERNIGHT team that does the organizing tbh. Overnighters we were called. And I forgot to mention that whatever overstock you had that wouldn't fit on shelves was supposed to be put in the back. Yes, we do have items in the back. And the reason daytime people always say "I checked the back and couldn't find it, OR we didn't have any in the back" is because they really have no fucking clue where they were placed. It's a fucking jungle back there. And overnighters are tired from all the stocking so sometimes they just put the overstock items in random shelves in the back to hurry up and leave to go home at 8AM.... But even then, it would be extremely difficult to find the items because you'd need experience using the electric forklift to go up into the 10ft high shelves and acquire items. And if you were that guy who was forced into learning the electric jacks/forklifts, you would be the one to get heavy ass pallets that can kill a man in a split second from 10ft high shelves. No joke, one time a supervisor was teaching me to use the electric forklift and almost dropped a 70' TV on his own head. The only thing that saved him was the end tip of the forklift bar stopping the TV from falling over on its side....so unsafe. Oh and don't get me started on raises. You know how I mentioned that I was that "I'll do anything kinda guy"....Well, you'd expect a decent raise right? WRONG. Don't expect more than 1-10 cents increase on your paycheck. The only way you get a dollar more is if you get promoted to supervisor or management. So fucking sad. The only good thing about overnight at Walmart IMO is that (depending on your manager) you can listen to music while working, buy whatever food you want in the store, chill by the bean bags, occasionally get free food, sometimes eat some "free" candy that was left open and not sold, and yes even using the electric jacks because it made draggin those heavy bales 10x easier until you crashed onto a shelf xD And the only thing that kept you going was the people. At least for overnight, we would all get along because of our distaste for Walmart as a large conglomerate. Don't think for a second we didn't know we were being used. So everyone would talk shit about Walmart lol (Unless you came from Target) But it was funny to see coworkers threaten to leave to Target if Walmart didn't treat them better lol
That... Doesn't sound chill lol. Thank you for sharing your story! Actually some of my workers left to work for Walmart lol I was the same type who was willing to do anything so yeah threw me all over the place too.

Dude! I'm engaged to a girl that works in the Amazon warehouse, aws a packer, in Surrey BC, Canada. She has often said how boring the repitition is, and she doesn't really like the job. So I was curious (I live in the States) as to what all she does while working. I expected something very different. But I love your sense of humor and the style video you made here! The funny narration was awesome!!! Expecially the package perspective part!!! Weeeee... I am going to check out your channel now! If the other videos are this good, you will have another sub!!! Great work!!!
Thank you so much!! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah this job was very physically and sometimes emotionally draining. I hope your fiance can find a much better job than Amazon. I wish you both good luck and happiness!

Amazon employees need a Union.
Agreed. Much needed union.
Unions are great, but will sell you out after a time.
If you so much as utter that word in that warehouse you will probably be put into the crusher
WRONG! AMAZON EMPLOYEES NEED TO SAY ENOUGH IS ENOUGH...AND stop that SOB from making more BILLIONS off these people!
Amzon would never have union because they know a union would tear them apart because there is so much wrong but don’t get it twisted people are there because of the money and when you have thousands of people trying to get a job you can do what u want and make your own rules and believe me when I say at Amzon it’s not what u know it’s 100% who u know trust me ! !
I know this is an old video, and that you no longer work there, but thanks for being one of the people to pack our items. That goes for anyone who works at amazon previously or currently. Used to work in last mile sort, and did package delivery for a bit. Ups and downs, but delivery was more enjoyable most days. Mad respect to all those who suffer just to deliver my junk same day. But also those who work there, please find another job before Amazon ruins your mind and body. My phone case is not worth it. Whatever you are being paid, is not sufficient compensation for the wear and tear on you as a person.

Good luck!!
I worked in a Warehouse too- dull labour, but plenty of time to think...
@@joequimby5658 yes i enjoyed the thinking time
Try delivering packages, you'll get lost in your thoughts.
i've been watching a lot of amazon videos like this. from what i can tell, the job is super oppressive and sterile. possibly stressful, especially if you've got a lot of annoying items to pack, yet still need to meet those goals. imagine having a day where you get nothing but annoying to pack items, and you're stressing out that you could lose your job, just from having an unlucky day.
i work in warehousing as well. where i have to create entire pallets of stock. but they don't put these pack rate goals onto you. as they understand each order differs in size. and warehouse upkeep like replenishing stock, and dealing with system location and stock count errors is a thing to take into account. as long as you are seen to be working hard, and you're completing the orders within a reasonable time, you're fine.
@@maakudesuyo yeah the umbrellas and the weights seemed like a real pain in the ass.

I’m a packer and it’s a little different where I work at. The tote full of products comes down a line and we pick one up and we have to pack the box and tape it up and throw it on the conveyor-belt. Our rate is normally 70-80 boxes an hour.
That's cool! That would save us so much time if the cages with the products came to us automatically.

How's it going?
How is it going? Are you still working there?
This reminds me of working at a Lowes distribution back in my 20's. You had a daily, and hourly quota for items, and a quota for weight loaded for non conveyable. Which made it hell when the loaders in the trailers couldn't keep up with their chutes. September and March were always the worst. September all of the bays would get bombarded with all of the christmas stuff for the stores over the span of two weeks. And March was lawn mowers and tile flooring as far as the eye could see. We would lose good people every year during those periods because they "didn't meet their quota" for a few day's straight.
I'll never work at a place like that again. Even if the pay is $15 to $20 an hour.
numbers numbers numbers are all they care about
$20 isn’t much
its like this at most warehouses.

I actually miss the actual act of boxing/packing. Not Amazon though lol

Thanks for your hard work. I appreciate you!
thank you so much

Actually some of my workers left to work for Walmart lol
I was the same type who was willing to do anything so yeah threw me all over the place too.

Hey, I noticed you dont put dunnage in alot of the 1a7 or other "taping" boxes. Do you think I can get away with that to save time and make rate?
1a7 and 1a boxes, basically the small ones, you can usually skip putting dunnage because it will kick out and go to the slammer anyways, especially if the product is very light. On some cases though, when the product looks really fragile, or heavy, I'll put a lot of dunnage. But yeah most of the time for 1a, 1a7 i skip the dunnage. Also, if the item looks like it's a really good fit in the box, like it wouldn't move much, you don't need to put dunnage either. Hope this helps!

After 4 years of working @ Amazon, I had enough and took their offer about a month ago. Zero regrets! 🤘🏻
Nice! That must have been a sizeable offer.
@@maakudesuyo yup I got 4k so I can’t complain. Thanks for the awesome vid by the way!
@@Valhalla_Heathen 4k! Nice! I would've taken the offer too. I was in Amazon for 2 years so i think it would've been like 2k. But, the timing was off so i couldn't take it. Thank you for watching!! Have a great day!
My dad used to work at Amazon when it was a small company of a couple hundred employees in the 90s in Delaware due to tax advantage and yes I think you can say he's one couple hundred of people who helped Jeff Bezos into a multibillion-dollar business.
Edit: not couple hundreds but thousands
respect to your dad
Hard to believe, but I guess I should believe you. What's he up to now?
Wow seems like you have more room to breathe than we do packing smaller items at amazon.
Yes this is very true. I used to work at an AR building too and I've seen their pack department. Very tight. But then again, it's smaller items.
Quit amazon after 6 months started my new job been there 4 months I take my 20mins break and 30min lunch back to back and nobody tells me crap and I just got bumped up to training new people
nice i'm glad you're enjoying your new job
