You didn't even mention Penetrator in Perception... Easily one of the best skills... you can 1 shot most if not ALL Robots because you can target the Power Core for full damage. I have 1 shot all robots since getting this perk.
There's a fun glitch with VATS where you have a split second to get a 1% hit chance on a Sentry Bot's core while the camera zooms in, which is important because you can use a Critical to guarantee a hit and kill on the Bot.

Lead Belly might not be as high of a priority on Survival because of the interaction that removes all ‘secondary food effects’ when you are hungry: this ends up including Radiation. You can technically wait until you are Peckish (first level of hunger) to eat irradiated food for effectively free.
Cool note for Charisma. If you get it to 12 either with chems or clothing bonuses, you will pass any speech check Edit: Another cool note. Dogmeat does not count as a companion against the Lone Wander perk.
Since you are more than likely only heavily investing in END for survival get Solar powered, Rank 1 Aqua Boy (and +25% swim speed mag) and Adamantium Skeleton and Chem Resistant. DO NOT get Leadbelly, Lifegiver or Ghoulish they are either bugged or moot when you take the other perks. Once again only recommended for Survival
Lockpicking is a decent choice because Nick can be recruited early on and can hack terminals. I don't find it necessary because game design doesn't put progress on the other side of locked door. As for endurance, total dump stat in regular and survival. A few extra HP and some cardio isn't going to save you in survival mode. However, the Aquaboy perk turns the rivers into your highway allowing you some means of traversal without having to fight through random encounters which is good but ultimately replaced by BoS Vertibird grenades for pickup & transport in survival. Gun nut is good for settlement defense as it lets you build heavy machine gun turrets which are harder to destroy, offer 8 DEF and don't need power to run.
@@edmartin875 Refer to it as necessary? Refer to the perk chart when you get a perk? I’m talking min max so I don’t waste perks. Of course once you read it alll and get into the game and have 20 perks in its no longer overwhelming but I meant lvl one when I open it and don’t know where to start.
People often put a lot of points into perks that, at first, seem very good. But, when you think of how many points it took just to get to that perk in the first place, things start to add up. And when you in the end realize that the perk didn't really do that much, you're suddenly faced with the insight that you have wasted points. A lot of them! Here are my thoughts on some of perks mentioned in the clip, and also some that you should check out. STRENGTH -"...the carryweight is what's important about this SPECIAL stat...". Really? So, the increased damage of your melee attacks is unimportant, then? Melee attacks at low strength will be a lot less powerful. Similar to how your sneaking will be less effective at low agility. -Strong Back - Even though higher carry capacity is always nice, the perk investment to get to it in the first place is quite high, And considering that you only get 50, makes this perk highly questionable, unless you're running a melee- oe heavy huns build. In those cases, you have the necessary stats anyway. -Armorer - You can get really good armor simply from removing mods from loot, and add them to your own pieces. This can be done without Armorer. But, it's a really good perk, that's well worth taking. But... options! PERCEPTION -Awareness - Do you really need a perk to figure out the resistance of certain enemies? Once my build start to reach level 80, then maybe... but, just maybe! -Locksmith - Bring Cait with you, and spend the points where they matter! -Rifleman - Very good perk for non-automatic rifles! -Penetrator - Excellent perk! Hitting tougher enemies (power armors, Mirelurk Queens, Sentry Bots, etc.) where it hurts, is now an option. -Concentrated Fire - Also an excellent perk! Don't slip it if you're going down this tree. ENDURANCE -Toughness - Very solid choice! Taking less damage in the initial the first place, makes perks like Life Giver, Ghoulish and Solar Powered less important. -Aqua Boy/Girl - If you're going down this tree, make sure to put one point here. -Adamantium Skeleton - Good perk for builds that are right in the thick of it. CHARISMA -Unless you're going for a specific perk, ranking this stat any higher than 3 is pretty much a waste of points. There are plenty of gear and chems that will raise your charisma to levels where speech checks are always passed (11 needed), and prices have hit the top/bottom limit. -Lone Wanderer - Probably the best perk in the game! Who needs companions anyway, am I right!? -Inspirational - Damage increase is 20%, Likewise for damage resistance. Carryweight increases by 25. Give your companion better guns and armor, and pop a Buffout. 3 points saves from a fate worse than... -Cap Collector - Even if you invest in a vendor, they will still not have the cash to buy your more expensive stuff. INTELLIGENCE -Just like with Armorer, both Gun Nut and Science can be skipped if you use mainstream weapons, as modded variants drop frequently. For everything else, they're a must! -Nuclear Physicist - Np power amored character will want to go without it, so do yourself a favor, and grab it. Just be careful at tier 3. Trying to toss a grenade, while in a tight spot, and realizing that you're out of grenades, will hurt a lot. Even worse if it's also your last fusion core that you just blew up. Nothing like a really slow walk, eh! -Hacker - Bring Nick! AGILITY -Probably the best designed tree. All perks rate from good to fantastic. They're just not useful for every build. -Sneak - Any build can benefit from spending 3 points. Always nice to not trigger enemy mines and traps. But, remaining undetected paves way for bonus damage from other perks, so it's definetly a perk to consider. -Ninja - One of those perks that depend in being undetected. Fantastic perk! -Mister Sandman - The silent kills are fun, but what makes this perk great is the 50% bonus damage when using suppressors. -Blitz - OMG, the damage! What a good perk! An absolute must for any VATS-using melee build. -Quick Hands - Depends on the weapon, but faster reloads is always good. But, not a priority... LUCK -Fortune Finder - Spending points here, means not spending them in places where they actually make a difference. But, hey... At least you can afford the medical bills now. -Scrounger - Ammo can be sold for caps! -Bloody Mess - "...one of the best perks in the game..." Example: Spend one point in Gunslinger, Rifleman and Commando. Three points in total. You now deal 20% more damage with each of these guntypes. How does that make Bloody Mess "...one of the best perks in the game..."? It's a fun gimmick if you have a point to spare, but where the idea of this perk being top tier came from, is beyond me. In reality, it's borderline garbage. -Better Criticals, Critical Banker, Grim Reaper's Sprint & Four Leaf Clover - These four perks go hand in hand, and are vital for many VATS builds. Guns or Melee, Long range or Short range. Works with everything! Well... almost! A handful of weapons have different properties, but for most weapons, it works. If anyone is still reading this, I thank you for your time and effort! Enjoy the game!
Sneak is essential in survival (if you don't have enable save mods), to avoid mines; die a few time on mines far from save point, and you'll consider it
Thanks for the upload. Nice to have a not 5 year old perk explanations video. I havent touched Fo4 in a while and i figured i should look into it before i get to far into mt character
Locksmith and Hacker are NOT a must. Cait can pick ANY lock and Nick can hack ANY terminal. The loot in safes is not that good most of the time anyways. Lesd Belly is useless even on Survival Mode - just cook your food and take Radaway from time to time you will do it anyway. The Luck perks from Luck 4 to 9 are all top tier and even if you don't use VATS you should get Bloody Mess and Idiot Savant. If you run a VATS build high Perception is not essential but I would recommend to start with 10 Perception that you can increase to 11 with the bobblehead found in Concord and to 12 wearing eyeglasses. Later on using VANS you can increase it to 14 giving you incredible accuracy. Armorer is essential for any build. You should start out with either 4 or 8 Charisma depending on wether you want to use Dogmeat (4) or other companions (8). I highly recommend using the "Everyone's best friend" - originally Bethesda intended you to have both Dogmeat + one companion with you and even has special dialogue implemented but it was cut from the game. This mod restores this mechanic. If you have only Dogmeat takevthe Lone Wanderer and Attack Dog perks, if you have other companions take the Inspirational perk. Also don't sleep on the Party Boy/Girl perk - it is a GREAT substitute if you have a low Luck stat. High Intelligence is advised as basically all the perks are usefull - yes EVEN VANS! Especially you should get the Robotics Expert perk which almost completely trivialises encounters with Sentry Bots and Assaultrons. Agility is pretty usefull but not essential not even for a VATS build. Just get the Gunslinger Perk (1 Agility needed) and use the Perception and Luck perks instead and either Kellogg's Pistol or the Righteous Autority Rifle - this combination will carry you through the entirety of the game. Endurance is a dump stat. If you want to do a Sneak build forget about anything above 5 Luck and don't waste any points into Perception - just give yourself 9 Agility, the Blitz perk and have a Strength of at least 4 to increase damage and be able to mod your melee weapons. Invest into the Sneak perk and Ninja Perk. A high Charisma stat is NOT needed for bartering or speech checks. As I stated above you should have at least 4 Charisma and using a hat, black rim glasses, Reginald's Suit/Agatha's dress plus drinking a beer (very common item) you will have 11 Charisma which grants you a 100% success chance in speech checks. If you look out for the Junktown Jerky Vendor magazines you will max out your bartering which is capped at 80% efficiency (selling prizes = 80% buying prizes = 120%)
For idiot savant it doesnt really matter how much intelligence you have. It may trigger less often, but intelligence raises how much xp you get at a base level. So whenever it does trigger at a higher intelligence level, it's way more than it would be than at 1 intelligence. To explain quickly, always get at least 5 luck and take idiot savant as early as possible. It massively helps any build in the game, no matter the intelligence level.
@user-ib1gr8qo3wat times I do, but if you make it a habit to travel between settlements and sleep, or find a bed, then it ain’t that bad and kinda makes it even more immersive. Still, id rather prefer at least the saving ability. Survival options mod corrects this
Of those, I usually consider Solar Powered as a level 50+ capstone once I've otherwise finalized my build for a character. The extra health to get there is handiest at that point anyway.
I go the opposite route, having a fully perked out Big Boy launcher from Arturo(the AoE boost from Demo. Expert actually multiplies with the Two-Shot effect) to drop entire groups with one shot. Combat Shotguns provide decent mid-range damage while I do keep the Deliverer on hand for stealth against trash mobs.
@@norzzahow about a drunk junkie grognak build? 4 str, 7 end, 7 Chr, 7 int, use special book on 8 Charisma Companion like strong and use Cait to unlock the axe. Do a hard save just before entering the elevator after being frozen. Then you can always create a new character changing nothing but your name and point allocation. (You can change anything/everything you created prior to the tutorial if you wish.) Now you don't have to go thru the tutorial for each new character creation, but still have the option of going back to run thru the vault for anything you may have missed previously. If you insist on the original name, after creating a first new character, delete your original character with the name you want to keep and create a second new character with the preferred name but keeping the first new character points. Then go back an delete your first new character with the wrong name.
@edmartin875 yea I meant further into the game if they made like a mirror or something u could reallocate with or barber chair maybe or u could make a beverage/chem even
Scrapper makes modding guns so much easier. Can be a pain searching for items when you're desperate for a new gun mod. The fact you're talking about perks for any build and don't mention chem resistant makes the list void anyway. Chem resistant makes tough fights a breeze and is so OP to use drugs at will, which are easy to find/buy/make
Chemist is the better pick over Chem Resistant. At high levels being able to keep multiple samples of Overdrive will ramp up your damage to Super Mutant Warlords and other infinitely scaling enemies. You can stack the effect with Biocom Mesh on your torso armor and have Metal limb armor hold one each of a Dense and Padded mod(only Metal can use these on the limbs).
@@XoRandomGuyoX What we agree on is that chems are OP. The argument for why chem resistant is the better perk is SPECIAL economy and what SPECIAL trees they sit in. If you're going an intelligence route then I'd agree chemist being worthwhile but this isn't a route I or many others would go as idiot savant is my top pick and I don't want high int. I go ballistic weave and have no use for high int as idiot savant is the quicker way to level. Chem resistant sits at 4 levels of endurance and majority of builds will have at least 4 end or hit it pretty quick. You only need two perk points to get complete immunity to chem addiction which cancels any negatives and I have sooooo many drugs that I want to use. There's no reason for me to go 7 in int and spend 4 perk points when I can pop chems at will with no downside
The best Strength perk is Armorer. The best Perception perk is +1 Perception. The best Endurance perk is +1 Endurance. The best Charisma perk is +1 Charisma. The best Intelligence perk is +1 Intellect. The best Agility perk is +1 Agility. The best Luck perk is +1 Luck. It has been many many runs already, and anything else, ever, has been a mistake. Even idiot savant, which pays for itself and more even if you have 12 intellect, makes that annoying sound effect so I'd rather not take it.

can we get a video on what perks are not worth maxing out like how idiot savant is best at level 2 as 3 gets rid of the random extra xp and gives a worse killing xp
Depends on where you're playing. When you open the pip boy, press triangle on PlayStation , Y on Xbox or T on PC. Every time you level up you get one perk point.
Oof, I was wondering if this guy would actually go a little more in depth to each perk. But he just read out what they do with little insight. Such as it's a bad idea to max out Idiot Savant because it puts a minute cooldown on the perk. Perhaps I expected too much of one video to cover ALL perks.
You serious with led belly?.. Like dude.. this is complete waste :) like the rad punish is so negligible as long as you're gettin rad only from food. The begin is to pretty much get purified water asap from sanctuary. Afterwards you'll have decontamination arch to clear it out easily as well, yet perks are dumped to the rubbish bin essentially
Endurance is useless IMO (unless you're playing survival) just get medic to level 3 and the life giver perk is redundant. Every other perk in Endurance is situational at best.
Aaaargh, also Lead Belly?! Are you fucking trolling here? That perk is almost completely nullified by Astoundingly Awesome Tales issue #10, though you need to have a trip to the Glowing Sea to get it. if you dont want to use points on lockpicking, you can recruit Cait early game in combat zone , since she can open anything. Ginger Rulez!
Should have mentioned that you can save and reload mission turn ins until idiot savant triggers giving you 5x EXP for all missions.
You didn't even mention Penetrator in Perception... Easily one of the best skills... you can 1 shot most if not ALL Robots because you can target the Power Core for full damage. I have 1 shot all robots since getting this perk.
Ohhh nice!
There's a fun glitch with VATS where you have a split second to get a 1% hit chance on a Sentry Bot's core while the camera zooms in, which is important because you can use a Critical to guarantee a hit and kill on the Bot.
Not useful to a non VATs build though
Question: if you target the fusion core, does the enemy still drop it after it dies?
@@Bigbear0288yt nope, if you want the power core you'll have to steal it with pickpocket
Dude... so refreshing to get an Aus accent describing all this. In an era where there's fk all games to play, to come back to FO4 and get some Perk advice from an AU where there's no bs just quick talking information... keeps people watching. Lots can learn from your vids. Will be checking out more and giving the thumbs up, cheers for not wasting my time with bs..
If you get it to 12 either with chems or clothing bonuses, you will pass any speech check
Edit: Another cool note. Dogmeat does not count as a companion against the Lone Wander perk.
I'm pretty sure it's if you get it past 10.
thanks for this, i am doing a charisma/intelligence build and just got to diamond city
Started playing fallout 4 or the fallout series for that matter for the first time a few days ago, amazing game.
Waste
Great vid, i needed a perk breakdown. At first it’s super overwhelming if you don’t know this stuff
Glad it helped!
That's funny. I was never overwhelmed by the perk chart. Perhaps that is because I took the time to read it and still refer to it as necessary.
STRENGTH
-"...the carryweight is what's important about this SPECIAL stat...".
But... options!
PERCEPTION
-Awareness - Do you really need a perk to figure out the resistance of certain enemies? Once my build start to reach level 80, then maybe... but, just maybe!
-Locksmith - Bring Cait with you, and spend the points where they matter!
-Rifleman - Very good perk for non-automatic rifles!
-Penetrator - Excellent perk! Hitting tougher enemies (power armors, Mirelurk Queens, Sentry Bots, etc.) where it hurts, is now an option.
-Concentrated Fire - Also an excellent perk! Don't slip it if you're going down this tree.
ENDURANCE
-Toughness - Very solid choice!
CHARISMA
-Unless you're going for a specific perk, ranking this stat any higher than 3 is pretty much a waste of points.
INTELLIGENCE
-Just like with Armorer, both Gun Nut and Science can be skipped if you use mainstream weapons, as modded variants drop frequently.
AGILITY
-Probably the best designed tree.
LUCK
-Fortune Finder - Spending points here, means not spending them in places where they actually make a difference.
I get my stats to 11 before any other perk investments. I gotta.
The one that improves limb resistance is crucial. If you take 5 damage but your leg gets blown off you will die anyways
Survival is different. It might as well be a different game as I do not use the same perks. I like Int & luck the most.
U got to much time on your hands
@@dbmikeyg255 yes I do
For idiot savant it doesnt really matter how much intelligence you have.
I'm currently level 17 in survival mode. It's difficult, tense and just awesome.
Me too lvl 20
@user-ib1gr8qo3wat times I do, but if you make it a habit to travel between settlements and sleep, or find a bed, then it ain’t that bad and kinda makes it even more immersive. Still, id rather prefer at least the saving ability. Survival options mod corrects this
Get the Water Boy perk and the ability to swim faster. It might be the most important survival mode perk!
Level 19 myself, one of the hardest gaming experiences I’ve ever had at the start
@@Hyzpen Im telling you to become a swimmer! Also there are maps online with every bed location. They help a lot.
My first time playing, and I’m using a agility luck/mystery stranger build.
I gotta say this is not the best advice: awareness, leadbelly, ghoulish, and solar powered are all pretty bad.
Of those, I usually consider Solar Powered as a level 50+ capstone once I've otherwise finalized my build for a character. The extra health to get there is handiest at that point anyway.
It’s not even a breakdown of the “best” perks per the title it’s just an explanation of every single one
Solar powered is good on a melee character.
Leadbelly is the worst and most useless perk. I could find a use for the others but Leadbelly is throwing away perkpoints.
to say it clearer Dogmeat doesnt count as having ana active companion
You wanna know a trick to reload faster in combat? Draw another weapon that's loaded then reload all your guns after the fight.
Demolition Expert and converting your guns to explosive ammo is too much fun
Works well with spray and pray and commando
In New Vegas I always used alcohol to boost my carry weight cause I was always carrying alot of stuff lol
in my opinion the Intelligence Perks are the best.
Love your videos bro. You've been really killing it with the content.
Thank you so much mate! I really appreciate it 🙏
What character build is your favourite? mine is sneaky sniper🤣
My favorite is drug fueled melee. Psychojet + Baseball bat = Hella fun.
I haven't done a drug melee build before, sounds fun!
@@XoRandomGuyoX Hahaha thats awesome, i dont know why i tried to do a build something similar like go loud on everything but i just tend to go sneaky😭
@@norzzahow about a drunk junkie grognak build?
4 str, 7 end, 7 Chr, 7 int, use special book on 8 Charisma
Companion like strong and use Cait to unlock the axe.
Dirty wastelanders give 6 str with party boy,
psycho buff and buff tats give 130 hp. And 25% damage.
Fury for 50% melee damage and the famous yaoi gui roast for 500% damage.
Two leg pieces that increase movement speed.
Just run in swinging.
my favorite percs are 30s!
Never heard of 30s perks. Must be some kind of mod. My perk chart only goes to 10.
good content and info... Any advice on how to max affinity with companions/macready?
I cant play anymore without Solar Powered. Once I had it and a nocturnal .44. Walked Far Harbor at night one or two shoting things and napping during the day.
Survival, no VATs, no power armor, no Ninja and nor even crounching just walking and shooting.
Doesn't dogmeat still come with you when you are lone wanderer? You can increase attack dog and lone wanderer with no penalties...or am I thinking of a different Fallout?
That's Fallout 4. For the purposes of Lone Wanderer, Dogmeat does not count as a companion.
As soon as you recommended Lead Belly for survival, I knew immediately you’ve never played survival
Blitz and sneak combo is op and i love it
add Rooted for the OP power trio
Do you not get all the perks in that category if you max out the stars, or is it just the one you stop upgrading on?
First time playing. I’m at Level 21 and have come to the conclusion that I’m going to do a companionless build with Overseers Guardian as my main weapon. Working on maxing out hacker and locksmith (so I don’t need companions) and Commando as part of that plan. Of course Lone Wanderer too. Got Local Leader maxed and a couple water farms going. Not sure where I’ll go next. Any other advice, thoughts on a build like this?
I want the damage boost that Bloody Mess gives but I really don't like the exploding enemies. Wish I could turn that off.
If only Bethesda cared as much about fallout 4 as the player base does.
What does that even mean, "care about the game"? Like...making the game isn't enough, they have to also have emotions tied to it? Why? Why not just wish they would fix the bugs instead? Their feelings don't write code, their feelings don't set the bug fix development budget.
Or any of their games lol
@@Tijuanabillfirst off. Calm down. Second off, if they had feelings tied to the game then they would care enough to fix the games bugs and finalize the code until it’s smooth as butter

@@nandimoozle703 What on earth made you think I'm not calm? I'm sitting in my house. This is not a high stress situation, so that's just weird gas lighting.
No, the bugs get fixed or not fixed, based on corporate decisions about manpower resources. Its not apathy preventing them, its corporate f*ckery, obviously. Even if they didn't "care", whatever that even means, they could still just order someone to do the thing, if t hey thought it would make them more money.
Carry weight? Companions are just fine.

Great video. Subscribed.
Good video
Glad you enjoyed!
My biggest want is point reset for mid point
Everyone should just play the game and look around. Have some ocd and build everything you can and make the most caps as possible 😂
I'm OCD when it comes to loot, which is needed for building and crafting.
Lead belly is a waste of perk points even in survival. Radiation is dumb and easy to negate.
Especially with the Decontamination Arch from the DLC. Even at level 1 you can scrounge parts for it and always reduce your Rads to 1 out of 1,000.
Aquaboy/girl is decent for traveling across the map and looting
The best Strength perk is Armorer. The best Perception perk is +1 Perception. The best Endurance perk is +1 Endurance. The best Charisma perk is +1 Charisma. The best Intelligence perk is +1 Intellect. The best Agility perk is +1 Agility. The best Luck perk is +1 Luck.
It has been many many runs already, and anything else, ever, has been a mistake.
Even idiot savant, which pays for itself and more even if you have 12 intellect, makes that annoying sound effect so I'd rather not take it.
Always always ALWAYS pick idiot savant. Its worth it no matter what build you do. Same with bloody mess.
I just get 10 int and don't sweat the small amount of exp I'm missing purely to avoid the sound effect. Can't stand it.
@@MadGeneral there's a mod that removes sound effect.

Lead Belly has a very strong case for being the absolute worst perk in the game. It's cruel of you to tell these new players to take it💀
Endurance is useless IMO (unless you're playing survival) just get medic to level 3 and the life giver perk is redundant. Every other perk in Endurance is situational at best.
