For the uninspiring art you could paint in little creatures, space ships, aliens, mythical beings. Say a sea dragon in an ocean print. If the color of the print or painting doesn’t work for you then try a wash over it to change the mood. Next time you make a frame staple the backside or better yet use thin nails in the side to attach with a bit of wood glue. I throughly enjoy your videos and thank you for sharing them with us. ❤

This room needs a taxidermy peacock on a branch ...
      A monkey skeleton
An painting of a snake ...
      A painting of a cockatoo
      10 owls
      A victoian aquarium or terrarium
      A zebra
      A large globe
      Apothecary jars
      A bar cart
      Crystals
      leaded crystal chachkies
      More tapestries
      😁

Have you heard of Christine McConnell? She's the queen of all things dark and weird and darkly whimsical. She makes a great inspiration for dark rooms and vintage furniture (though I don't think she has a pink flamingo, or rhinestoned peacock ;-)). Also; next time just staple the back of the frame 🙂. Some woodfiller in the seams at the front, and you're good to go!

So beautiful! I think you should turn something that would normally be "dark academia" into a whimsy piece. Like, a small bust of someone, but covered in glitter. 😅 If you wanted to, you could even keep it a darker color, to not make it stand out too much.

    • @fredericapanon207

For the big picture frame, it's better to either glue an extra L-shaped piece of wood to the back and staple that, or put glue on the edges and staple from behind, then fill gaps with wood filler. But you life and you learn, as you said :)

That is a beautiful living room you've made, and this video has it all: humour, drama, cat, DIY; I cried when you sanded and painted over those beautiful wooden chairs, but I forgave you when you (quite correctly) pointed out that Finland was robbed 🤣You were on the right track, though, when you made your picture frame. Just apply PVA glue on the surfaces that will be joined, and staple them together on the backside. Thanks for showing us your process of turning a house into a home 🙂

    • @HazarielAtelier
      @HazarielAtelier  ปีที่แล้ว +17

I know for the chairs and maybe you are right, but also, I need to feel living in my home and not the house from previous owners, so yep paint it is !

It's actually so satisfying to see you paint the wall properly :D. First painting the edges and around all the door and window frames and THEN painting the large surfaces of the wall. My mom was a painter (like in renovating homes, not an artsy painter) for 40 years, and this is how the pros do it and how she taught me to do it. It's way more efficient and less patchy to do it this way. I always die inside a little bit, if people start painting right in the middle of the Wall, where overlaps are the most visible 😅. Though to be fair, this isn't so much an issue with highly pigmented quality paint, since it often times covers without streaks with the first coat (except for light paint over dark)

Your first attempt at framing was pretty good! If you want to try again, a few tips: join the corners with wood glue, then add the staples in the same places but on the flat side, they'll hold it secure while the glue dries and you won't see anything from the front. And if you want a super seamless corner, they sell little wax sticks you can rub in to fill in any gaps from the cut angle being off, but if you're going to paint it anyway you can just fill it with something like airdry clay and give it a quick sand to get it super smooth for way cheaper

  • @Shifterai

It looks great, and I think it will be a marvellous canvas for you to make your own. With the furniture etc from the previous owners, you'll be able to set something up for now and live with the place for a while, changing bits and pieces over time. It depends on when it was applied. Pre 1980s (at least in the US), it was made of asbestos. But afterward was "created using a paper-based or Styrofoam product to create the texture, rather than asbestos". I always wear a mask even when spray painting though. I clicked on this so hard when i saw it. 100% would paint a room dark green. Definitely need more paintings and rugs 🤓.

    Lovely job!
I hate popcorn, I've had to scrape it off more ceilings than I care to admit, wet slop is definitely preferable to dry dust though.
That wallpaper machine is great, wish we'd had one when we moved into our house. Every other room had paper stuff that came off in nice big pieces if you wet it with a sponge, but the Blue Room had this plasticized stuff, we spent 7 hours scraping in there...
Your quick and dirty solution to other people's poro plastering job is fine, we've done it plenty of times during renos and refreshes...
After having had to deal with the mess from people painting in their cabling disasters, I'm not sure I would have used hot glue, but I suppose a heat gun would take it off if you ever needed to remove it...
NotYourCat definitely seems to have become part of the family!
I dunno about a rhinestone peacock, but maybe some beaded bugs like The Closet Historian makes?

Not this making me wish we could just roller paint the walls in my house. There all like 60's - 80's paneling, so you have to go into the gaps before rolling, or it won't be... fully covered

This looks great, you did a wonderful job!
I think some fantasy taxidermy would be a glorious addition, and I would love to see how you'd make it, perhaps some wall mounted heads (of teddybears, or unicorns, or something monstrous!) would be cool. Also, when I think of Dark Academia, I think of Cabinets of Curiosity, so perhaps a shelf filled with funny little gadgets, creepy things in jars, bottles of unnamed herbs etc

My first time at your channel and I found your video adorable. I am sooooo confused though: on my computer, that paint looked green--like maybe a bluish emerald---but for the reveal it was suddenly a beautiful jewel-toned peacock blue. I'll just leave that a computer mystery and say Well Done! A beautiful decoration of that space.

More pictures! More dried flowers and silk flowers! Maybe by some old books with ink print drawings of botanical flowers and book drawings (black & white). Busts of people. Crystal vases. 😊

Try Cavallini Papers - their posters/ wrapping papers are gorgeos, very priceless, have a vintage, academic vibe and should fit perfectly to this style! I have lots of them and I have a "science" wall in my living room, where I mix them with original lithographs and graphics from old books. I change them themewise, so it's always new!
    I loved your makeover! Merçi!

The room has flair, personality and a Dark Academia style, but perhaps add a little more artwork? I would suggest, Swiss surrealist painter H.R. Giger. Buy 3 black and white images online, print out and frame each one separately then mount on your wall as a group of 3? Love van Gogh, Matisse and Monet, but sometimes it is fun to wake up the guests. Giger will do that.😉

I don't know how I miss the day you post this, but, all your work is wonderful. It would appear the Landlord approves too. I think since we see lizard a second time, maybe lizard is "caretaker". How can you be proper land-owning bourgeoisie without caretaker/groundskeeper staff after all? :P

You did my living room! OK, I don’t have that veiw and hadn’t done curtains, but I bought that color paint and a Chippendale sofa.
I didn’t know it was called Dark Academia…

Future tip for making frames...staple the backside of the trim. Then use wood filler if the pieces don't quite match up. Whimsy to add ideas: Get an inexpensive lamp shade. Add beading, fringe, and trim to the bottom. Find a lamp base you like...voilà instant Victorian lamp. I added iron on dead head moth patches to the sides of mine (quasi square shade)

Unless it's latex (real or modern) paint or vinyl wallpaper you mostly get away with water in a pump sprayer (these pumping air things, not like windex bottles). You spray, let soak, spray, soak, spray, soak. After some time the wallpaper should be removable in big strips.
The scorching with a knife or wallpaper perforator tool is only needed if the water can't reach the glue. Like with latex paint, vinyl or several paint layers.
