Another complex energy intensive solution to our problems created by previous complex energy intensive solutions.

And your solution is ... ?
Agreed. We live in a world where the solution tends to be energy intensive. Absolutely.
What is the alternative? What is your solution?
Question: how many men are needed to *remove* the snow off the streets, manually? And then how would you propose to melt the snow in a timely and effective manner? have men run up and down the gangway with nets? hmm.
If you have the solution to solve the world's addiction to these "complex energy intensive solutions", I don't know why you are just sitting at your computer, when you could be making trillions of dollars every day by simply telling the rest of humanity of your world view. Please do share because we need people like you!

That's a good start removing solids but it should really pass through a bed of Anthracite to make some attempt at removing the dissolved contaminates from the roadway. That's the real poison to your waterways.

What happens to the waste taken out of the snow? How are the filters cleaned and what becomes of the by product?

I agree this some of the junk is dirt but if you looked at the paddle boats Style filters you could see when I believe we're cigarette packs and all kinds of other detritis. My initial reason for posting a comment here was that I was surprised to see that Timex, the venerable watchmaking Institution, is making water filters and other stuff. Amazing and I think a very good offshoot or diversification for that company

So it's like a waste water treatment plant, but without expecting chemical or biological pollution. I wonder why they wouldn't simply release it to the sewer after some filtration for big waste materials. Maybe the capacity would overload the waste water treatment plant.

beezer bomb. That is why engineers treat run off from rain water as well. Better to treat in place vs sending it into local water ways.

There is dirt and also other contaminants that you normally find on the streets such as litter, leaves, and other items you normally find on the streets such as bits of screws etc.

They filter rain water too? Same stuff.

    • @robertlee3778

They have started, in the US, to set up automated machines at the mouth of rivers and estuaries to capture and trap all the litter etc. that washes down the storm drains which basically dumps the rain water straight into the riverways.
So, the answer is Yes, they are starting to filter the rain water too because like you said, Same stuff.

keep the dirt from going into the ocean, which happens every day by erosion and rain washing stuff off the streets....polute the air running all those trucks
