No doubt you are passing along false information. Will once again save your viewers some time. Back in early 00's David modeled for a Calvin Klein ad. Cory Taylor was very critical burning the ads saying it wasn't "Metal". Jonathan shrugged it off saying the rest of the band wasn't happy either but it is what it is. David claimed on his FB to have confronted Cory Taylor years later which Cory has denied via twitter. The end.
I'll be honest. I made it about 30 seconds in. This is guy giving objectively false information so why would I trust anything else he has to say? Hell he can't even say David's last name right. It's worth mention LAPD actually stands for Laughing as People Die (originally Love and Peace Dude). Brian joined up with the guys before Jonathan not the other way around as he's mentioning. According to David he left Korn because he was working out one day and had a "I broke my back" situation similar to Mike Tyson if you can get the reference. That along with being unsatisfied with the direction the band was going in to say the least is why he didn't return when he recovered. Fast forward to 2013 when Brian rejoined the band David seemingly came out of the woodworks wanting to rejoin also. After being rejected in favor of Ray the rest is history. There saved you 6:29 seconds of potentially false and misleading information.

That's when I saw them too. They only had two songs out and opened for Ozzy on his Retirement Sucks tour. I saw them in Denver on New Years Eve 1995 and at midnight, Ozzy sang Auld Lane Syne and had a balloon drop.
Sylveria is one of my all time favorite drummers growing up. His fills were always interesting he always changed them up and complimented all the rifs perfectly👌

Ya know, David never really got the respect he deserves. When I was 11yrs old this dude was what I modeled my drumming around, he was my first real drumming inspiration. The power he put into his grooves is what I loved, the crack of that snare with the low guitar tuning and those big beautiful paistes. When issues came out I wanted to be David silveria. Then a few months later I wanted to be Joey fucking Jordison man!
Dave Sylveria is one of my all time fav drummers. As a kid i remember getting a 1997 green lauqer tama star classic drumset and playin all korn tracks on my drums… i still have the drumset and i also have his tama limited edition snare signed by David himself marked David in sharpie marker on the inside of the drum. Korns drumming back in those times were so influencial and was the height of my progression at 14 years old mimmicking the beats. Thanks David for being a play by ear drummer like myself u cant beat the rythm of raw talent… you are exactly that!
Well said. As a drummer myself I actually got inspired by Lars Ulrich & Joey Jordison to take up drumming & later other instruments. And tbh I never got into Korn at first. Probably due to some edgy kid I went to school with. And I just thought that listening to this band will make me turnout the same way. Lol Anyways, it wasn't until I picked up guitar & became more open minded about other genres, instruments & music theory, that I'd review Korm's work again & now have found a new appreciation for their unique sound & style. Korn is what you get when you add 90s hip synth elements, ancient tribal elements in the rhythm section, chugging Djient riffs, & if Sepultura / Soulfly went into a Nu metal direction. Idk if it's just me, but once I've heard Sepulturas Roots Bloody Roots record, I always associate that album with the very essence of Korn for some reason. And to me, their song Daddy will always be up there with some of the most disturbing & intense auditory, captivating horror stories, right next to Slipknot's Iowa It's both incredibly sad & yet so cathartic to listen to Jonathan relive a complete mental breakdown in his mind & is courageous enough to face his demons & turn something negative, into something "positive" by processing these emotions in a healthy way, via artistic endeavors, rather than continuing the vicious cycle of repetitive predatorial behavior.
David’s drumming had the funk and groove of Nu metal Korn music. Hip hop and heavy rock. The new drummer is amazingly on point and technically mind blowing. But that GROOVE and deep Funk Is what makes a Nu metal or funk metal tune It was a big part of KoRn. He also had a lot of power. He pounded those things Very Tommy lee
I was never as good as David on the drums, but I know what it is to finally get there, smooth, fast, precise timing and original beats, and have your body let you down. It happened pretty quickly for me. For about 2 years between 18-20, I could hang with some of the best, but I had bad knees, and after surgery at 21 I never got it back. Some people have more innate physical coordination than others and can bounce back from injuries, but for many of us, we had a lot invested in muscle memory that just got cut away permanently under the knife..
@@rhaastaatell us what you know about being a drummer and then suffering an injury and afterwards hopefully bounce back to how good you were before. You can't because you're a crap talking dousch bag.
If your body is hurting you badly at a young age, there is something wrong with your technique in my opinion. But then again, I don't play metal , but once I refined my technique I can play in my style all day every day for years and not hurt myself. One thing that helped me was practicing really slowly, at that point it's more of a mental than a physical thing
'Monkey' James Shaffer never left the band. Brian 'Head' Welch however did and returned in 2013. I can see how to confuse the two but the more comments the merrier, I get it. Keep it up bro. Love these vids.
Did ChatGPT write this? David broke his back while exercising. He didn't know it was broken and continued to play. Eventually David suggested that the band take some time off and recharge because they had been touring so much. Communication broke down after that. David ended up having surgery on his back which took him out of commission for a bit. All the while communication had completely stopped between him and the other Korn members.
David mentioned in a post that Munky left on 3 separate occasions before they convinced him to come back. It just never got out in the press. That's just David's word alone because Munky has never commented on it publicly and they barely acknowledge David at all anyway.
David to me is the foundation of nu metal. On the 1st two albums it was the first time I heard double bass drums without your classic thrash metal machine-gun double kicking, yet the anger fury were still there. His jazz & funky style were a huge influence ever since, but sadly gone by the third album
I saw Korn on their first US tour in support of their first album in 1995. Blind was brand new on the radio. They were opening for KMFDM in a smaller theater in Denver, CO. Another opener was God Lives Underwater. Great concert - not to mention my first concert; I was 15. It was a blast to be that age during the 90s and live that era in music.
This video is basically all wrong. So you are correct, it was a wrist injury that started it. Just watch any other video and any other source. This guy is terrible
@@Xeptor83that wrist injury came during the sick and twisted tour in 2000, which he played a hand couple of shows for. got surgery, healed up, recorded untouchables and went on tour from 01-06. in that 5 year period he didn’t have an injury, nor in an interview he did in 2007 did he mention anything about any injury. he took time away to run his restaurants and bars in the huntington beach area. after he wasn’t let back in he started shitting on the band. so no the video isn’t incorrect, you have your timeline mixed up
I was into the thrash/death/grind and anything heavy going. When Korn arrived i loved them, heavy and different, Silverias drumming was a massive part of them. The debut and " Life is Peachy" were amazing but for me hasn't aged well.
David’s right their 1st 3 albums especially their 1st 2 were so innovative, heavy groovy and funky. After that and after David left they became a standard rock band their sound has never been the same.
I don't agree. While the first album will forever be etched as one of the greatest albums of all time, the 2 albums that followed weren't as good. Life Is Peachy has some great songs on it, but it also has a lot of mediocre songs that out of the context of that time period, aren't great. It's not as listenable in my adult years. It starts off strong and ends strong, with some O.K. sounds in between. What it did have was the original Korn sound, so people seem to think it's better than it is. And Follow The Leader is too Hip -Hoppy for me. I actually think Issues is a very under-rated album and to me, is their best next to the first one. Untouchables also has some great songs on it and some mediocre ones. Take a Look in the Mirror was also mediocre. Although, I dig the music on their newer albums, Jonathan's choruses became very boring and predictable.
@@itsalwayssomething7490I agree almost 100%, first album was peak IMO. I think nostalgia has people rating Life is Peachy a lot higher than it should be and although follow the leader has a couple great songs on it, I feel like can practically hear the fame and popularity leaking into their sound. But I'm with ya on Issues being underrated, I thought that album was badass, I was afraid it was gonna suck since a lot of bands drop a couple decent albums after a great debut then they just start mass producing shit like its their job, but when it came out it stayed in my CD player in my truck for a couple months probably lol. I didn't really dig untouchables, and everything after was pretty much unlistenable for me
Life is Peachy sounds unfinished, and it's production is total butt. Some good songs on it but I think FTL and Issues are both far better. My teenage self would be mad at me for saying that hah. Their s/t will always be their best and is on another level.
So, David said that the music they made after he left, wasn't good. But then later it was said, that he hasn't listened to any of the music they've made, since he left......
I had a blast back then getting to see Korn at the beginning of their rise. I enjoyed all the concerts and festivals I got to see at…Good times! Sucks that all of this was going on with the band…
I agree with David the vibe changed with Issues and I didn’t like anything from then on. The drummer was one of the best parts of the band!! Those intro are legendary and seeing them in 1998 was an epic experience!
Disagree with that. If that were the case, Issues, Untouchables, Take a Look in the Mirror and See You on the Other side wouldn't have largely sucked because David was still in the band. Those albums can't live up to the first three because Head was in his own personal hell for three of them, and gone for the fourth. Since Head has been back, some of their stuff is better than those four albums (but not as good as ST, LiP and FtL. Those are (ironically) the Untouchables.
@SystemsEngin33r if I may offer some context, 1999 was a musical shift in the band that altered the creative process when it was time to write the issues album by means of bringing on a certain producer that wanted to change it up in the studio. David was the first one to call it out, and he was told to be quiet and not cause problems. That was the start of the decline for david and it never improved until he took his hiatus and ultimately quit for good.
David has more muscle in his face than i do in both my legs. I've been with the band sense they started. I got to see them on their first tour. Even limp bizkit was a opening band. David was awesome! Hearing this I'm not sure which way to believe. So I'll just stick to the memories of the past seeing them live.
I partied with this dude at the shark club in Costa Mesa years ago. Kind of quiet and soft spoken. Very nice, respectful dude. Too bad things didn’t work out.
I saw Korn in 1994 about 6 months before they singed a record deal at Dream Street in Ocean Beach CA. I was in a thrash band and and my singer turned me onto Korn. My Singer became good friends with the band getting on their buss and backstage any time they played in the area.
I’ve been watching your channel for a few years now & i just wanna say it’s been really cool seeing how it’s grown over time. keep up the good work!! and I also appreciate that you finally unmasked lol
He has a feel Ray doesn't have, IMO. It's just like Mangini vs. Portnoy. Sure, Ray is the virtuoso drummer, but Fieldy + David just sounds more like KoRn than say, Martinie + Luzier.
It's sad that the producer of Issues restricted his style to get a more commercial and easy listening sound. The drums have become boring because of that
Crazy thing is you never really think of the drummer being the most musical one in the band, but those first 2.5 albums that was the case. He carried that band
He is right about the first three albums being solid classics.. David's drum style influenced my drumming Style, regardless of korns politics with him..
Korn is in their second golden era right now. Their last three records have been solid AF. That being said, I miss David’s drumming and style. Don’t get me wrong, Ray Luzier is a monster but so was David. Either way, I hope they become friends again

The only album I like with ray is the paradigm shift the rest blow and rays drumming on the paradigm shift is barely noticeable it's mostly head that makes that album and the subtle electronics Ray was a nobody played for lame satire bands like Davis Lee Roth and Steel panther Rays just a gimmick and has no real individual style
My band opened for them in the nineties in Little Five Points in Atlanta. I don't remember the name of the club, it isn't there anymore. They were so high energy we were blown away. Us, and the rest of the bill, were pretty slow/sludge/heavy and then they came on. They were already pretty strung out though backstage.
I said the same thing about their albums. The first 4 are amazing and after that I have rarely found a song I like. Nothin will compare to their self titled album, and the other 3 come close but after that it’s a wash 🤷🏻♀️❤️
When he initially went on hiatus, I read in some cheap magazine that the reason for his back pain turned out to be that he had an extra rib that they had to remove. I wonder if anyone else remembers it like that.
I first heard Korn by getting a free concert ticket with the purchase of "Life is Peachy" cd. Popped it in and was like holy shiznit! These guys are incredible, especially the Drummer David Silveria when at the time I was really into Pantera and Sepultura. Ever since then I have had Korn in my top 5 bands of all time, despite the changes and thru the years of music. I can admit that their albums with David were their best. They definitely had a groove that can't be replicated. Ray is great but there's just something special about David when he was in Korn IMHO.
I remember seeing them opening for Sick Of It All, I didn't know the band or their songs back then (1994?) but man, THOSE DRUMS! Nobody was playing like that at the time. I agree with him that after "Follow The Leader" things were never the same but I wouldn't call their music "shit", they always were good songwriters but the magic was gone.
I dont understand his comments about Issues tho, it still had good drumming, and the following 2 records still sounded like Korn even if the drumming wasnt as free flowing as the earlier albums.
@@Henry14arsenal2007 well, that's the beginning of the overproduction in rock and especially in metal, that's probably why he's not as groovy as on previous albums.

Ray is a beast, I'll pick him any day BUT without David, Korn is missing something that no one can ever replace. The 2002 "Korn: Live", musically speaking, was the peak of the band.
Silveria was the backbone, groovy feel that made Korn different. All that original sound got lost after his departure and it shows and keeps showing...
Everybody should know that the reverse R was done because Jonathan was trying to write like a little kid would write the word corn. It wasn’t because they worked at Toys “R” Us all the interviews I’ve ever watched that was the story and how they got their name is even funnier it was more of an inside joke between them.
it still kinda is though, thats why kids r us is even titled that, same thing.. it was a mashup of old store mottos and how children were over emphasized to write like that which would even give you the idea in the first place. Besides.. like I said its basically a meme now, and arguably was even then because that's not how kids stereotypically write. Thats like a kin to the "serial killer" notes that had letters cut out of different magazines then Hollywood overused it for decades.. The backwards letter stuff is like little rascals old. like 1920s shit.
Bands evolve if they want to survive with an ever evolving music scene. During that evolving process, sometimes band members grow distant or evolve in a different direction. It doesn't necessarily mean they don't like each other...only that each sees music as whole differently than others.
Put Silveria & Davis in a room for an hour & they WILL walk out best friends. Huge Korn fan here, huge fan of up until Paradigm Shift & maybe Serenity of Suffering... my favorite member of Korn is Head but I’m not religious. Ray has been an amazing fill in, he’s a GREAT drummer but it’s lacking the Dave groove from the beginning... nothing but respect to Ray, groups & artists change but I personally haven’t liked anything Korn has put out since 2016. PLEASE do a reunion tour with David! I will go to that! Love you Ray! Sorry, but a tour with all original 5 members would b the SHIT! A tour with some deep cuts off of self titled & Life Is Peachy... OMG!!!! Lupo’s in RI 1997 Korn killed it!!! One of the best shows I have ever been to.
Unlike JD, David hasn't changed at all maturity-wise. I'd be happy to see back David as well but I also think the band doesn't need that negativity he puts off for a while now. I also hope Fieldy comes back. I feel the same about Ra as lots of others feel about Ray vs David...
Well, David made a huge work with band and he deserves respect for this. But I think much more important is to maintain good relations between band family members. This is chemistry. And this chemistry brings us all the Korn music!
Idk what really happened and maybe there was more to the story, but the quotes by David are full of animosity and honestly uncalled for. I love korn and his drumming was always an amazing part of their music. I just don't think talking bad about your ex band mates are gonna make you look any better yourself.
Huge korn fan since the first album ,seen them four times up in till Dave left, as a musician, you can hear the distinct drumming that made korn such a great band, when bands lose an original member the sound always changes. And yeah, Jonathan Davis and field he even had have I become whiny Christian losers ,🤮
No one ever thought it would be possible for Axl and Slash to be on stage together again. That was almost 20 years of some of the most awful things being written and said about each other. Hopefully one day soon the original 5 guys will realize what they were able to create and take the stage once more as one solid unit. At this point, that is the only thing that will make Korn relevant again. It takes the input of all 5 of them to make a true Korn record.
Why not just watch Jonathan Davis explain why David left. Check out Korn meets scuzz. Probably the best Korn interview out there just because of how well the interview went and the questions scuzz was asking. Jonathan broke down the whole David thing 26:18 and put in on record why he's gone for good
I agree 💯. But the vibe at there shows are still fire. Rays stick twirling pissed me off honestly but he is a good drummer just not the same as David. Seen all of the different lineups thru the years. I will take any form of Jonathan davis band
Perhaps Silveria could put out a drums only version of the Korn singles that he was jnvolved in. I for one would love to hear his unique intricacies that he brought to the band.
He's not wrong about their sound imo, Issues is definitely where they started turning into a parody of themselves. I think they've actually done a bit of good stuff since, but certainly the first 3 albums are why they are the band they are today.
I used to be really into Korn when the first two albums came out and I think they still stand up pretty well today (the first album more so, the second has some great songs, but it’s also quite patchy). I began to lose interest when ‘Follow the Leader’ came out. You could tell even then they were making concessions to be more mainstream and I began to lose interest. Honestly, I remember watching the debut of the ‘Got the Life’ video and thinking it’s was quite embarrassing…though it was also hugely successful. You could also look at it this way: They began to lose it when they stopped wearing Adidas and started wearing Puma.
Yeah, there's a lot of bands that come out with a great debut and then steadily go downwards after that and Korn is definitely one of those bands. I remember making a conscious decision to stop wearing Korn shirts around the fourth album.
Its a business though. Not cater to edgy fans needs that eventually won't be profitable as time goes on. Sadly the music majority love that changes lives doesnt turn profits and thats the name of the game if a bands gonna survive sadly.
I don’t have an issue with bands growing and developing, in fact the best bands do exactly this. But with Korn and Follow the Leader you don’t get growth and development, you gets utter shite, like ‘All in the Family’ That said…the album had ‘Justin’ which is one of my favourite Korn songs. In fact, the last few songs on the album are the more interesting and experimental ones.
I got into them about 6 months before Life is Peachy, would get made fun of wearing Korn shirts. Kids would ask me if I listened to Cabbage too, kind of shit. Then two years later when FTL came out, all those same kids were saying how great Korn is and they'd always be fans. I stopped wearing anything Korn related soon after FTL.
I started to listen to them when Life is Peachy came out but for me Follow the Leader is their best record. Besides two songs it’s a perfect album for me.

@@j_forfreedom45 Ray sounds too generic. He's a very good drummer but you can't differentiate him from other equally good drummers if you aren't seeing him. David has his own sound and groove wich was Korn's trademark in their first years.
I was lucky enough to see them right after their first album came out. Ball Tongue live was absolutely insane back then. David was such a powerhouse. I'm sure Ray is a nice guy but David was on a level that is almost inconceivable if you didn't see them live and up close in that era.
That shit was amazing
Jesus... I can only imagine. Ball tongue is hands down one of my favorite tracks ever by them
That's when I saw them too. They only had two songs out and opened for Ozzy on his Retirement Sucks tour. I saw them in Denver on New Years Eve 1995 and at midnight, Ozzy sang Auld Lane Syne and had a balloon drop.

I also was lucky to see them a couple of times before 2006. For me Ray Luziers style doesn't fit at all...

According to David, Munky left 3 times but they were able to corral him back before it ever got out in the press. The power he put into his grooves is what I loved, the crack of that snare with the low guitar tuning and those big beautiful paistes. When issues came out I wanted to be David silveria.
Lol
Anyways, it wasn't until I picked up guitar & became more open minded about other genres, instruments & music theory, that I'd review Korm's work again & now have found a new appreciation for their unique sound & style.
And to me, their song Daddy will always be up there with some of the most disturbing & intense auditory, captivating horror stories, right next to Slipknot's Iowa
It's both incredibly sad & yet so cathartic to listen to Jonathan relive a complete mental breakdown in his mind & is courageous enough to face his demons & turn something negative, into something "positive" by processing these emotions in a healthy way, via artistic endeavors, rather than continuing the vicious cycle of repetitive predatorial behavior.
David’s drumming had the funk and groove of Nu metal Korn music.
Hip hop and heavy rock.
The new drummer is amazingly on point and technically mind blowing.
But
that GROOVE and deep Funk
Is what makes a Nu metal or funk metal tune
It was a big part of KoRn.
He also had a lot of power.
He pounded those things
Very Tommy lee
I was never as good as David on the drums, but I know what it is to finally get there, smooth, fast, precise timing and original beats, and have your body let you down. It happened pretty quickly for me. For about 2 years between 18-20, I could hang with some of the best, but I had bad knees, and after surgery at 21 I never got it back. Some people have more innate physical coordination than others and can bounce back from injuries, but for many of us, we had a lot invested in muscle memory that just got cut away permanently under the knife..

Ray is A masterclass drummer. David is the pioneer. Time change.
that maybe true but Ray has zero of that funk, heavy groove feel David had. And that groove is what made Korn (incl the bass sound) so special, IMO.
Ray more into heavy metal and classic rock David more into groove and funk type of vibe
Luzier is a showoff and his playing basically ruined Korn. Guy overplays EVERYTHING. Has zero groove.

Facts
Did ChatGPT write this? David broke his back while exercising. He didn't know it was broken and continued to play. Eventually David suggested that the band take some time off and recharge because they had been touring so much. Communication broke down after that. David ended up having surgery on his back which took him out of commission for a bit. All the while communication had completely stopped between him and the other Korn members.
Wait Munky left KoRn? Wasn't it Head that left?
I wasn't aware of that either.
Head.
This! only i'd say by the 4th Issues .. FTL still had some groove to it

I saw them about the same time, but they opened for Ozzy on New Years Eve 1995 at McNicols Arena.
I always thought David had to give up because of a severe wrist injury. Sucks to hear there was animosity between these guys.
He took a small hiatus in the late 90s - early 2000s bc of a bad wrist injury I think

Korn fans as i am one myself don’t get pissed at this opinion but i really think david silveria was a huge part of the korn sound
I was into the thrash/death/grind and anything heavy going. When Korn arrived i loved them, heavy and different, Silverias drumming was a massive part of them. The debut and " Life is Peachy" were amazing but for me hasn't aged well.
Nobody cares what you think. The first album is objectively great. Sorry your taste sucks.
David’s right their 1st 3 albums especially their 1st 2 were so innovative, heavy groovy and funky. After that and after David left they became a standard rock band their sound has never been the same.
Yes, they sound more like Coal Chamber than Korn after David left
I've been a fan since '98. I prefer their newer stuff over the old.
Either way, I'm so thankful they are still making new music.

It’s true about Issues; his playing is extremely simplified. Doesn’t even sound like the same drummer from the first two albums.
I agree with David the vibe changed with Issues and I didn’t like anything from then on. The drummer was one of the best parts of the band!! Those intro are legendary and seeing them in 1998 was an epic experience!
yup, the drumming on issues was super simple and robotic, not his fault
But come on issues was still such a good album. They went to shit after untouchables in my opinion.
while maybe true, a different vibe - I still really liked Untouchables. Even this much later on.
He was right. Issues was the beginning of the end of Korn making good albums. David's drumming was the backbone of their songs.

Thank you for revealing the incomprehensible story about David
My favorite albums are the ones with David on them
When he initially went on hiatus, I read in some cheap magazine that the reason for his back pain turned out to be that he had an extra rib that they had to remove.
Man that snare for those first two albums made the band. His playing was great but it sounds like they'll never get back again

It's "korn", not the word "corn". "Korn" means "kiddie porn".

David was a phenom. Unique sound 👌
He’s not wrong. Korn’s new drummer butchers their older stuff.
Thanks for not stretching this out to a 20 minute video.
Y’all say what you want, all 5 original members are real Korn.
I grew up with listening to Korn you cannot replace David I found the same as you did on the first three albums
But with Korn and Follow the Leader you don’t get growth and development, you gets utter shite, like ‘All in the Family’
That said…the album had ‘Justin’ which is one of my favourite Korn songs.
He's doing great with b.i.a.s. ❤ love how he's still making music
