- The regional conference evaluates the Millenium Development Goals and looks to creating a foundation for the post-2015 development agenda: concerning issues economic development and growth globally. It was both an honor and so much fun to have been able to speak at such a forum! :)

08.35 is true. Almost all public schools in Indonesia do not focusing the student in problem solving discussions/essays/presentations. Instead, they memorizing many topics that out of date with MULTIPLE CHOICE ANSWER(S) in every test/exams. Imagine international/private schools (like my Cambridge IE school and IBs) are better than government schools, what a shame. Theoretically should be incorrect. Maybe the problem is youth population exceed limited source of teachers. Thank you Maudy for mentioning this matter. I hope Mendiknas did not underestimates your speech over there.
E Nadiro yeahh I agree with you. Even in Malaysia (I'm Malaysian btw 😁) most of public schools focus more on examination and test rather than students' skills which include communication, talents and many more. They're trained to be exam oriented kind of students which they tend to memorize what they learn rather than understanding the content. This is so sad, seriously. I personally think that our governments should change or modify the education system in order to have better products (students in this case), if only we need a better future especially for the young generation ✌️

In 17 years old, Maudy had given the speech about Indonesian's problems in a huge conference. In that period, she'd already indicated her courage and persistent that could be the role model of Indonesian's youth. Besides, If she'd said with the perfect grammar, that would be better. United Kingdom has strictly rules about it. Otherwise, United States has more flexible in grammar. Meanwhile, the Indonesian's economic development had been told by her, at this very moment it has burgeoned a lot. To saying this, dream, education, free financial of our society are highly likely to happen in a real life. The point is especially for Indonesian people, never say never to KEEP ON LEARNING in our LIFETIME.

Senang dan bangga juga bahwa ternyata ada segelintir artis yang tidak hanya appearance tapi juga smart. I would have been more impressed had she presented her fabulous speech without even a second looking at the script she had prepared for the conference. I am sure had she realized that she would have been able to make a lot more impressing speech and to make audience completely amazed, she would have made such a choice, unfortunately, she didn't. Anyway, two thumbs up to you, Maudy. You have successfully shifted people's perception about artists as empty-brain, dumbo. You are completely different.

Kalau salah di grammar sih saya bilang sah2 aja.english is not out mother language.foreigners pasti jg ngerti kok. Saya sih lebih tertarik ngomongin isi dari pidatonya ketimbang grammar.

Even though she is Indonesian it is obvious English is her first language. She thinks and writes in English. She very succinctly put her thoughts and ideas out loud here.

Her speech is perfect. Talking about education in indonesia, i felt the same way. We didn't get the chance to contribute in a community or do problem solvings for problems in our generation. Therefore, i hope the government will think more about the curriculums in national school, which is not effective. Memorizing things and never practice it will have no use for our life. We need more people in our generation like her, brave, smart and aware of national problems.

I've been wondering about these things. Education should be re-designed in a more pro-active ways. Not everyone can be tested with a single type of test. It's like measuring the capability of a fish to climb a tree or flying ability of a fish and swimming ability of birds. If the people can only realize their own potentials, there would be no one suffering from poverty.
This speech was 7 years ago but the education system in Indonesia is not showing a significant change. Hmmm

Ananda, which school did you attend? Maudy was accepted to NYU, Brown, and Oxford, and she chose the latter, which she is now attending. So you see, you don't need to speak perfect English to have a great education and future career. Now again, which school did you attend or are attending?

Of course she is so clever, but i think one of the most reasonable thing for creating a good student is not only based on the "place" and "system", it is about a willingness..., a huge power of someone's effort to reach their own dreams, without this, i think every good "place" and "system" will be useless, look for Habibie for example, He is the pioneer who got a million dreams to pursue that balanced with his effort and prayer to make it to be real, and he did it..

memang untuk orang indo atau untuk siapapun yang bahasa utamanya bukan ENglish, grammar jadi tantangan tersendiri. salah satu cara membiasakannya ya tinggal di negara barat minimal 3 bulan,atau stay di pare. Kesalahan pronoun juga sering diucapkan sama orang2 indo, bahkan Agnes Mo yang udah kaya native speaker aja nyebut Timbaland pake "she". Ga masalah.. orang bule maklum aja dengan kesalahan minor kaya gitu. Mereka juga lumayan kaget waktu aku kasih tau kalo bahasa indo itu ga punya banyak pronoun kaya ENglish yang punya 7 pronoun...

Maudy was grauduated under the International Baccalaureate programme which is an International program which has a totally different syllabus with Indonesia's education system. Hence, looking at the brilliant outcome of the students going under this programme, why dont Indonesia choose to adapt the education system? Thanks
good luck for your studying, maudy. hope your next speech more academic and less experiencing as you learn a lot of economics. problems in education in indonesia is the quality and the mismatch between school output and labour demands. hope more 'lucky' student that enjoyed hi-tier education like you that school aboard to learn economics, or science, not only business, fashion, or build cafe by their parents money. good luck.
