When my friends grandma passed away, we were cleaning out sheds and closets for weeks just throwing out junk. Amongst the junk was some cool stuff that we had set aside. Cool trinkets, antique silver bits, old tools, and unopened boxes of model cars, screws, paints, glues. It was an insane amount of stuff. My friend was letting me keep whatever I thought was cool as a thanks for helping clean up the place. One thing I found that was neat was what looked like an old license plate except it was made of porcelain. I thought it was a decoration of some sort but it had the logo of a local racing team and an old roadster on it. It was pretty neat. I took it home and put it on my wall. I love car stuff. Literally months later my buddy gives me a call and asks if I took that plate. I told him that it was on my wall as we spoke and that I thought it was cool. He asked me if I’d be ok giving it back to him as his uncle was wanting it as a memento from his aunt and their involvement in the local racing team. I saw no issue with it. I thought it was cool but it clearly meant something much more to him. He was squirming as I walked into the house with it pinched between my thumb and my index finger. He literally came with a padded sleeve to transport it. It now sits in their old shop that’s now converted into a small museum with old Fords and muscle car stuff. There’s a wall of shelves just full of parts from engines that blew up on the track. There was old pictures and posters. Old time slips. That plate is now on the wall in a fitted shadowbox and his uncle was nice enough to put a small plaque underneath stating “generously donated by neighbor and friend upon grandmas passing.” Just thought it was neat. Thanks for reminding me of that porcelain plate.
Nice. My state allows car owners to purchase new porcelain plates and put them on their cars but only if the number is within certain bounds. I have one on one of my cars. People will make their own fake plates if the number isn't within the range and none of them look right. I don't get it, it's like making a new driver's license because you don't like the colors on the DMV-issued one. I'm surprised Delaware didn't make it into this video as it has numeric plates but people there with low-digit plates tend to hold onto them. Plates 1-3 belong to the governor, vice governor, and secretary of state. Plate 4 is the lowest publicly-available plate and is currently on a 10-year-old Lexus IS350. That number could buy a very, very nice house if sold.
I have always avoided vanity plates because it boosted the price of the car tag to $100. Then the state decided anyone with an EV was obviously rich *OR* they wanted to disincentivize buying EVs in the state, so the regular price of a tag got an extra $125 added to it. At this point, the extra for a vanity plate is trivial.
@@thatjeff7550 Roads and infrastructure are largely funded by gas taxes. EV owners are using the roads without contributing to that funding, thus the state had to recoup the money somehow. EVs are heavier and put more wear on roads so it's even more important that they pay for their share of maintenance.

And our original EV tax surcharge was...close to being in line with what it should be, *IF* I were paying for gas at a rate of a car doing 12,000 miles a year with a 30MPG. However, our governor (a QOP) has decided that isn't enough and has doubled the tax rate last year. He intends for it to go even higher in up coming years. As for the "but EVs are heavier" bullshit, my car weighs around the same amount as a F-150--why aren't they paying "their fair share" as well for tearing up the road? Their annual gas tax is nowhere near what I pay at the DMV.

UAE Plates Exposition: Number plates have categories. In Dubai they are alphabetical 10:12 [AA] and in Abu Dhabi they are numerical 12:19 [5]. So a category [A] number 9 plate would be worth so much more than a category [AA number 9] plate. Similarly the category [5] number 1 shown in 12:19 is worth pocket change compared to catogery [1] number 1. Also, all of these plates were auctioned in a charity auction, so there’s that.

I'm gonna let him know it's probably worth big money.

I usually can buy them in bulk from junk yards for around $1. Most I’ve paid for a plate is $350 very cool to see some of the plates that are worth more than the cars. Thanks for this one. I feel like there is a difference between buying an old plate vs owning the right to a plate. I've got some old plates but I don't think I could just register them again. But I have no idea.
There defiantly is a difference between buying an expensive wall hanger Vs, buying an old plate to use on your car, most states offer a program call YOM or year of manufacture and that allows you to put an old plate on your old car, for example if you were in California and had a 1957 chevy and wanted to put the old yellow and black plates on your car, you would need a matched set of 1956 Cali plates with a 1957 sticker, the plates year needs to match the year of the car. Most states offer this program but not all @@0Rookie0
If you own that plate (as in that number is registered to your name) missing that plate is no big deal as you could make DMV (or local authority) printed it again.

Point of correction here - the J4 license plate is not an English (ie from England) number plate, it’s a Jersey (Channel islands) plate. It’s an island between England and France, and it’s where New Jersey in USA is named after. The number plate “black” market here is crazy, lower plate numbers (4 digits and below) usually go for huge amounts, bonus points if it’s an interesting combination or sequence like a birth date/year, 1234, 123, etc. I know this because I’m a resident of Jersey. Concur I came here to say the same. When I first moved to Jersey you could get a 4 digit plate for around £1000. They also didn’t mention you can’t actually sell or buy plates either. You have to have them on a vehicle and sell the vehicle. The local auction house will list them as “4 digit plate attached to a vehicle of insignificant value”. Owners transfer them to an old banger and sell the car for plate value. Also it’s Jersey Pounds not GBP (technicality).
In England you can only buy plates that have been officially released in the past and you can't choose to have anything you want. There is a big market for "cherished" plates which are bought and sold as investments. The best plate I know of in England is "A 911" which is owned by Porsche UK and is always on a Porsche 911 press car. By the way - the reason these things sell for a lot of money is because they are often bought by corporations and used to offset tax. Same with luxury properties and yachts.

Delaware has a crazy market for license plates, they are all numbered plates with 2 digit tags going for 100s of thousands, 3 digits for 10s of thousands and even 4 digits for 5k+. And yes people will buy them as soon as they are up for sale
There is a barn in Vermont that is completely sided with license plates. In Massachussettes you cannot keep your old plates (I do not know when they started that). In New Hampshire you cannot use an old license plate.

One of the infamous UK registrations is PEN 15. But obviously it's been spaced so it reads PEN15. In the UK the number 1 is identical to a capital I so it's not too difficult to work out what the plate tries to say.

Probably because 30-40 minutes worth of content takes weeks to write, film, edit etc. Donut might be a youtube channel, but it's still a business. They have to pay their bills, pay business expenses, pay all the guys' salaries, so making more frequent shorter videos makes more sense financially, than putting all their eggs in one massive basket and hoping that this one long video gets 10 times more views than a shorter video would get (which it wouldn't). More frequent videos also mean they can accept more offers from sponsors. It's their livelihood at the end of the day, they can't put food on the table with just your happy emojis and comments.
All of the above, plus the algorithm heavily rates you on "average percentage viewed" - a high percentage of people will watch all the way through a 10 minute video, but most folks would jump out before the end of a 40 minute one which would hurt their ranking

Here in Quebec, we can't even keep our custom plates since we pay about 35 dollars a year extra. Once we decided not to keep it we turn it in or keep paying that 35$ for the next car or decoration.
an emirati here, 10:36 it’s considered a 1 digit plate, the number is the only part of the license that is special, the letters are plate code where AA is the only double letter code. there are other codes like A, B, C…

Not in the USA or Canada, where new license plates were issued annually and the old ones were illegal to continue to use. But in Britain, for example, a number is issued to a vehicle and then the owner purchases a manufactured plate with that number, which never had to be changed.

I got access to the “1” license plate. I submitted the paperwork, it was available, I was first in line. I waited 3 months and hadn’t heard back. I call and ask about it. It’s “pending” two more weeks go by and I get a call. “Sorry, your current registration is too close to expiration for you to get a custom plate, renew and try again!” My registration wasn’t due for another two months. I couldn’t renew it then if I tried. I obviously lost my spot in line for this. I know something or someone did something nefarious so they could (or someone they knew could) get access to the “1” plate. Corrupt bureaucrats.
The 1922 Hawaii is the first license plate used by all four counties, on all islands. In Norway you pay about 1000$ for a personal license plate to keep for 10 Years. The plate is registered to you personally, so you can put the plate on any car you own, just have to put in an app what car that the plate is on for the moment, if you have many cars, you can move the plate over to the next car you want to use, as often as you want. After 10 years you have to pay for another 10 years or return the plates, if so, the license plate is then sold of, for the same price to someone else. There is not possible for the owner of the plates to sell the plate private, or sell a car with a personal plate on it. A little fun fact also: In some Country's in Europe, Norwegian (and Swedish) cars is not aloud to drive with personal license plates, you have to change to the normal license plate when you pass the boarder, for this reason, on those cars, there is leagal to drive with the James Bond gadget licenes plate frame, that flips and change the cars license number with a button inside the car.

We have the same in Switzerland, but with number, like less numbers will sell for way more! Like ZH-1 (Zürich) can cost more than a million! Rarely can happen that you see a 2000 swiss franc car with 200 thousand swiss franc plate on it!! The plate has been for sure for ages in the family or so.

US is plate paradise. I collect park related and aussie plates. Most current plates tops around 300 bucks.

I mean you can get a personalised plate from the DVLA that you make yourself but it has to follow certain conventions.
I've once saw the F1 license plate at an auction website specialising in reg numbers. It was going for over £12 mill.

Delaware has a crazy market for license plates, they are all numbered plates with 2 digit tags going for 100s of thousands, 3 digits for 10s of thousands and even 4 digits for 5k+. And yes people will buy them as soon as they are up for sale

There is a barn in Vermont that is completely sided with license plates. In Massachussettes you cannot keep your old plates (I do not know when they started that). In New Hampshire you cannot use an old license plate.

But obviously it's been spaced so it reads PEN15.
In the UK the number 1 is identical to a capital I so it's not too difficult to work out what the plate tries to say.

Probably because 30-40 minutes worth of content takes weeks to write, film, edit etc. Donut might be a youtube channel, but it's still a business. They have to pay their bills, pay business expenses, pay all the guys' salaries, so making more frequent shorter videos makes more sense financially, than putting all their eggs in one massive basket and hoping that this one long video gets 10 times more views than a shorter video would get (which it wouldn't). More frequent videos also mean they can accept more offers from sponsors. It's their livelihood at the end of the day, they can't put food on the table with just your happy emojis and comments.
All of the above, plus the algorithm heavily rates you on "average percentage viewed" - a high percentage of people will watch all the way through a 10 minute video, but most folks would jump out before the end of a 40 minute one which would hurt their ranking
I bought 25 Kentucky plates that said ELVIS1 from a single family who would get a new one made every year until 2014 or so. Sold them all but one for $35-50 a piece.

Here in Quebec, we can't even keep our custom plates since we pay about 35 dollars a year extra. Once we decided not to keep it we turn it in or keep paying that 35$ for the next car or decoration.

I wonder what the oldest plate still in use today is? As in a vintage plate that kept getting transferred from car to car , in theory couldn’t you run a 1920s plate if your family kept transferring it for generations?
Not in the USA or Canada, where new license plates were issued annually and the old ones were illegal to continue to use. But in Britain, for example, a number is issued to a vehicle and then the owner purchases a manufactured plate with that number, which never had to be changed.

There was a plate in the UK that was PEN 15 it was recalled by the driving agency and removed from.the car it was on and taken out of circulation as a number plate. They try not release anything dodgy but sometimes a few get through.
I got access to the “1” license plate. I submitted the paperwork, it was available, I was first in line. I waited 3 months and hadn’t heard back. I call and ask about it. It’s “pending” two more weeks go by and I get a call. “Sorry, your current registration is too close to expiration for you to get a custom plate, renew and try again!” My registration wasn’t due for another two months. I couldn’t renew it then if I tried. I obviously lost my spot in line for this. I know something or someone did something nefarious so they could (or someone they knew could) get access to the “1” plate. Corrupt bureaucrats.
The 1922 Hawaii is the first license plate used by all four counties, on all islands. Before that, each of the counties had its own separate annual plate except Kauai County, which never issued professionally-manufactured plates and continued to just require owners to provide their own, which had happened in the other three counties as well till they switched to "real" license plates.

The F1 plate is worth like 10+ million I think. It’s on a Veyron Vitesse owned by the CEO of Khan, they modify range rovers and the like (correct if I’m wrong). He was offered I think 6 million but turned it down. Maybe he bought it for 440k but it’s worth way more now

In Norway you pay about 1000$ for a personal license plate to keep for 10 Years. The plate is registered to you personally, so you can put the plate on any car you own, just have to put in an app what car that the plate is on for the moment, if you have many cars, you can move the plate over to the next car you want to use, as often as you want. After 10 years you have to pay for another 10 years or return the plates, if so, the license plate is then sold of, for the same price to someone else. There is not possible for the owner of the plates to sell the plate private, or sell a car with a personal plate on it. A little fun fact also: In some Country's in Europe, Norwegian (and Swedish) cars is not aloud to drive with personal license plates, you have to change to the normal license plate when you pass the boarder, for this reason, on those cars, there is leagal to drive with the James Bond gadget licenes plate frame, that flips and change the cars license number with a button inside the car.
