I met him in Rio de Janeiro in 1986 at the America's Championship. He wins. He was a nice and humble guy. Once, on the 2nd FITA, at 90 meters he shoot three 10 in the first round. On the second round he shoot two 10 and on the third arrow, after doing what we can call a "messy" shot....he ended with a 9. He gets out of the line laughing. On those days, many archers were trying to shoot like him, me included.
My grandfather has known him since he was about 13. They shot together a lot and did tournaments. Said you couldn’t get him to stop shooting, that’s all he did.
@@HamishGarland Yes and the National Training System of the USA was born of the combination of Darrell's and Rick's forms. I am so fortunate to have Darrell as a friend as well as the program director of his original club, Cincinnati Junior Olympians! His timing is still the same and you'll never know how many hours, in all kinds of weather Darrel put in! He's a great guy and a great friend! You have to remember there is only ONE Darrell Pace! You can try to copy but you are not him! We are all built differently!!
He umpires my local softball league. A true legend and a great guy. You can’t argue balls and strikes with him because he’s got gold medal receipts. 😂

and before him, there was John c williams an other olympic winner.
@@yvesfontaine9514 ...I know about Williams, but I have never met him. There has to be a video about Williams in TH-cam.
Second half of this video is Rick McKinney, not Darrel Pace
I can't believe how little time he spends between arrows. With a 54# bow you'd think he'd want to relax a little more.
That’s the release to copy!
I love Darrel Pace!!!!
Apart from the blurry Film, you would.n't believe it was 40 years ago!

I wish they would do a digital restoration of this piece of film?
The best
Did the Koreans copy his form?
Yes, they based their initial program on Pace and McKinney's techniques.
