Best advice, "you don't want strangers knowing where you keep your pride and joy." Not very many people understand how important that is and good on you guys for mentioning that. Great channel!
I just got the Edge 810. I love it! I used to use the MapMyRide app on my phone, but it drains the battery quickly. I usually can't even get a century in. But with this, I was able to do a full century with power to spare! If you could do more Garmin Edge training videos, I would appreciate it immensely.
jenicm01 Actually, I haven't been able to use it much because of the weather, but it worked perfectly fine for the few times I've used it. On the century I did a few weeks past, it worked like a charm. So far, I've had no issues.
Love the idea, used it for the first time the other day and on a 3hr 30min ride it drained 70% of my iPhone batt, which is too much in my view if you need to use yr phone in an emergency.
Thanks so much. I am a huge fan! Not good at tech, and need to go out to an area for an alone ride and need someone to be watching that I make it back okay. Thanks so much!
I use Real Time GPS tracker 2 on my Galaxy Note 3. It's a stand alone app, works quite well and is free. I keeps my wife at easy when I go on my longer rides. It's available in the Play Store.
I tried to use this feature on garmin and it was a pain and never really worked. Hope they have improved the app since 2019. I wish they had a way to share a multi-day roundtrip online, but that does not seem to be the use case for which it is designed.
touching on that last point you should do a video showing how to turn on privacy settings in Strava it is known thevies are using it to take peoples pride and joy :( many don't know about the feature and it would be great that everyone has a chance to know :)
I use the RoadID app which seems to work in about the same way. This is especially good when you're someone like me who only owns the Garmin 800 and not the 810.
My wife and I use Apple's "Find my Phone" app. While it doesn't provide the ride parameters, it does let us know here the other is securely, with a lot less battery consumption, and with out requiring us to start it before we go.
Great when it works but the phone to Garmin connection is terrible. Constantly drops the connection. I've been using it for over a year and it's just not worth bothering. I've downloaded the RoadID app and that works great for live tracking.
Matthew Ward hi , recently a friend and coworker died of a heart attack while riding, other complications were already there he wasnt aware of i pressume but his wife and i and others weren't sure were he was riding. Would road id live track so as long as i have battery somone with access can find me?
I use it all the time to share with family members (Garmin 810 & iPhone 6). Occasionally they send me a text msg of encouragement, and I have Siri read it & send a response.
Do phone and Garmin need to remain connected via bluetooth throughout the ride to maintain LiveTrack capabilities? (ie can you leave your phone at home?)
Global Cycling Network I'm very interested in purchasing an 810, but I have read a lot of reviews online stating they crash on rides over an hour in duration. Could you comment on how you get on with the unit (if any of you guys use it)?
What is the advantage over grabbing one of the various applications that just use your mobile's GPS directly (e.g. runtastic)? Two button presses, phone in the back pocket and go?
As with other spy telephone apps listed here, it’s all the essential attributes, for example, power monitor instant messages, track GPS location, and to spy on text messages. But additionally, it has some unique features that make it stick out from the bunch. Let’s take a look at these characteristics if you know the type of things that happen around you , you will be scared. do you know that 96% of Americans have errors in their credit score and out of that high percentage, only 10% know there are errors in their reports. 70% of the 10% of people who notice errors have them corrected. it is a lot of work but with the right connect , i got it done in two weeks . change your credit score change your life . a word is enough for those who are tired of the broke life. they provide exquisite service with a money back guarantee ,Contact Text/WhatsApp +447495039516 credit insight to be repair thank you
Looks like a lot of extra steps compared to using the sportstracklive app. All I have to do is hit track live and bingo it is going. It will then also have notices sent out to all my friends if they have opted in, or social media if I've authorized it. And it keeps the data on the website indefinitely. And it doesn't cost a boatload more on top of my phone.
Tip: you don't need a Garmin to use this feature, it's built into the Garmin Fit app, there is a monthly/yearly fee, a lot cheaper than buying a Garmin 1000 ;-)
Quick question, do you have to have your phone with you while you are on your ride? This would be perfect for family to track as I run a marathon, but I don't carry my phone with me, only my Garmin 920XT.
I am old fashioned, have a smartphone with no mobile internet, but there are GPS and bluetooth on it. When I pair this Edge 25 with my smartphone, and I use the Garmin App for live tracking of my cycle route, does the live tracking work??? Without mobile internet connection. And the phone has an old Android system too...
Can I set one profile specifically for riding my penny farthing (real life question!!)?? Mainly for registering time, distance, heart rate, calories count and wattage. Would the values be accurate, or could I program them to be accurate??
On what app or program does the person that follows you on Livetrack actually see you? Does the follower have to download an app or sign into a website?
Indeed so, Garmin battery on, phone battery on, GPS on, Bluetooth on, mobile data on. Do that on a cold day and battery life will be dreadful. Then, when you have aproblem and need to call for help, your phone won't work ;-)
Does the live track feature drain the battery more quickly? I figured GCN may have more experience with the live tracking. Seattle to Portland is next month and I was thinking of giving the live track a go. Thanks!
Zaine Stapleton Yes, it drains the battery a little quicker, so might be best to experiment with how long the set-up lasts before the day of your event.
I love your video I have every thing working great however, when I finish my ride and stop the activity for download to strava my rides are two rides with slightly different stats why is it duplicating?
So I know this is an older video but I'm new to the Garmin world and I'd love to use this feature. Do I have to bring my phone with me as well on said live-tracked ride? Last time I tried live tracking, nothing was tracked until I got back to my car and near my phone again. Seems kind of silly if thats how it works.
Hello everyone. My auto live track has stop working. I use GC with an an android S9+. Never had an issue before. I updated everything and still same issues. Am missing something? Thanks and ride on
Am I being silly here? Most phones have apps to show where you are- this live track might show a route but is essentially doing the same thing as a phone locator- which you have to take with you
So if I’m not mistaken you need internet connection. I was hoping Garmin could do better than that. No much use when you’re out yonder I’m afraid. Fail from me.
Hi. I hope I'm not being 'dense' here, but it's not immediately clear to me what program or app I need to run on my computer / laptop to enable real time GPS monitoring. After seeing this video I downloaded the app to my phone but couldn't see my Garmin Forerunner 310XT listed, and yet the Garmin webpage for the device seems to suggest that it is possible. Can you shed any light on these issues? Regards Mark in the UK
+stefis6 Sorry that you have to put up with all that crap.. but I understand what you mean.. so, in an Android phone unlike iPhone you have an option of Mobile Data and GPS, but in this case you only need mobile data as you will use the GPS on the Garmin.
Ethan Fletcher I have a Garmin 62s. It's not the cheapest. I have topo maps for all of Canada in it because I use it for hunting and hiking. I often carry it when I bike ride. It tells me where I am and how fast/far I've been. I haven't done it yet but I could Velcro it to my handlebar stem instead of clipping it to my belt loop. My point here is that you can use any GPS on your bike, you don't have to go and buy another one if you already have one.
Minute Man true, for mapping any garmin is fine, but if you all the data stuff (thats what a lot of people buy their garmin for) you'll have to buy anotherone
Hey talked with Garmin and was told they recommend for the time being using STRAVA beacon, wonder if they are the same company now if not nice of them to show us which is the better company
I do like Simon's one+ phone, but I think it is far too big to be carrying around in my back pocket, considering getting a cheap Nokia just for calls+txts...
I think one way to slow down the battery draining so fast would be bring your navigation set up on our watch with a track further a part. So instead of every K its maybe every 5-10K recording.
Lots of gaping holes in your explanation of how this works; this is abundantly clear from the many comments posing basic questions that are unanswered by your video. Empathy toward those of us in the initial phase of exploring this technology would be a good goal as a presenter of information. And do the "followers" magically see the rider's progress on the insides of their eyelids? Is it projected upon their fashionable cycling eyewear? Do they see it on some Garmin-provided web page? A smartphone app? Some social media conduit? On another Garmin device? How often is the rider's location updated? Do viewers need to authenticate themselves in order to follow my ride, or is there anonymous access such that my boss and my neurotic exes can easily stalk me on every ride? Other than that, a nice video. (See also: _"Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, what did you think of the play?"_)
great stuff however ---- BATTERY ---- you will get less than 50 percent of the time you normally get on your garmin with the bluetooth on BE WARNED folks if your going out for more than 4 hours with bluetooth on better turn it off
Indeed so, Garmin battery on, phone battery on, GPS on, Bluetooth on, mobile data on. Do that on a cold day and battery life will be dreadful. Then, when you have aproblem and need to call for help, your phone won't work ;-)

Do people really want to sit at home and watch a little dot moving along on a screen, are people really that interested? Useless for touring anywhere remote, guzzles far too much battery life and just won't work without an active data connection so it's a toy really. It will probably hit the battery so hard that if you do need help your phone battery will fail as soon as you try to use it, especially if it's cold. I carry a SPOT Tracker which will work where there is no mobile signal or data connection and does not need a mobile phone, it's also cheaper to buy than a high spec Garmin though does require a subscription which is not cheap. Far better device if the purpose is truly reliable tracking and the ability to summon help in places where there is no mobile signal, or just to let loved ones know you are Ok.
Best advice, "you don't want strangers knowing where you keep your pride and joy." Not very many people understand how important that is and good on you guys for mentioning that.
Great channel!
I used live track almost daily. It is useful during the morning commute so that colleagues can see if you are running late.
I just got the Edge 810. I love it! I used to use the MapMyRide app on my phone, but it drains the battery quickly. I usually can't even get a century in. But with this, I was able to do a full century with power to spare! If you could do more Garmin Edge training videos, I would appreciate it immensely.
TheCatAteMyShoe Have you had any issues where the 810 crashes? Or loss of data. Especially on longer rides where you have used nav?
jenicm01
Actually, I haven't been able to use it much because of the weather, but it worked perfectly fine for the few times I've used it. On the century I did a few weeks past, it worked like a charm. So far, I've had no issues.

thank you for posting this video. very helpful.
I use the garmin 220 for running and just used this feature for the first time.
Great features, brilliant advice.
Thing is, I don't want my girlfriends finding out about each other.
Nice Grindr app there, Dan!
Love the fact that the passcodes differ in the clip. Despite specifically told to watch them to be the same.
I use Real Time GPS tracker 2 on my Galaxy Note 3. It's a stand alone app, works quite well and is free. I keeps my wife at easy when I go on my longer rides. It's available in the Play Store.

Great feature I will defiantly use, thanks
touching on that last point you should do a video showing how to turn on privacy settings in Strava it is known thevies are using it to take peoples pride and joy :( many don't know about the feature and it would be great that everyone has a chance to know :)
love these guys
I use the RoadID app which seems to work in about the same way. This is especially good when you're someone like me who only owns the Garmin 800 and not the 810.
Well done both pass code weren't the same good job told us what not to do then you do it
My wife and I use Apple's "Find my Phone" app. While it doesn't provide the ride parameters, it does let us know here the other is securely, with a lot less battery consumption, and with out requiring us to start it before we go.
Road ID had an app with livetracking. The added plus is that the locks Creek can be changed to the same vital info that RoadID sell on their bracelets
Lockscreen not Creek. Autospell
Great when it works but the phone to Garmin connection is terrible. Constantly drops the connection. I've been using it for over a year and it's just not worth bothering. I've downloaded the RoadID app and that works great for live tracking.
I use the Glympse app
Thanks for the tip. I think I'll just use the iPhone and use "Find my iPhone" built in.
Matthew Ward hi , recently a friend and coworker died of a heart attack while riding, other complications were already there he wasnt aware of i pressume but his wife and i and others weren't sure were he was riding. Would road id live track so as long as i have battery somone with access can find me?
cheers as ever lads.
Only problem I can see is if you are on and 'epic' ride the phone battery is likely to die well before the Garrmin, especially if using bluetooth.
Ride with power bank lol
Works with my garmin watch too :)
I use it all the time to share with family members (Garmin 810 & iPhone 6). Occasionally they send me a text msg of encouragement, and I have Siri read it & send a response.
OnePlus One, nice choice!
Great bang for the buck!
Do phone and Garmin need to remain connected via bluetooth throughout the ride to maintain LiveTrack capabilities? (ie can you leave your phone at home?)

How is LiveTrack shared on Facebook? Do all your friends get a notification, or is it posted to the newsfeed?
What is the advantage over grabbing one of the various applications that just use your mobile's GPS directly (e.g. runtastic)? Two button presses, phone in the back pocket and go?
you never say where the person on the computer can watch my ride what site do they go to?

I'm looking for an answer to your exact question. Have you found any hacks??
Lasty's oneplus? Thanks for that invite mate.
I take it you have to be connected to your cell carriers data (Internet) connection/network?
Indeed so. No connection, no location data.

Would the values be accurate, or could I program them to be accurate??
Does the Garmin connect app need to be open after starting the ride on your 810?
can you use live track with Garmin if you have a forerunner 10? It doesn't have a bluetooth.
What about the Garmin Edge Touring, can you use that one aswell? It's heaps cheaper
Are you planning to update this video with the new AUTOlivetrack features?
On what app or program does the person that follows you on Livetrack actually see you? Does the follower have to download an app or sign into a website?
How can I set up the live track on my computer, do I have to buy an app or something?
Does this drain battery life and data usage while using it?
Indeed so, Garmin battery on, phone battery on, GPS on, Bluetooth on, mobile data on. Do that on a cold day and battery life will be dreadful. Then, when you have aproblem and need to call for help, your phone won't work ;-)
Can I do it with the 530?
Can it work with strava's live track feature?
Does the live track feature drain the battery more quickly? I figured GCN may have more experience with the live tracking. Seattle to Portland is next month and I was thinking of giving the live track a go. Thanks!
Zaine Stapleton Yes, it drains the battery a little quicker, so might be best to experiment with how long the set-up lasts before the day of your event.
Did a 35 mile ride on my regular route that has loads of segments but starve said no segment on this route. Why is this?
Agradeço o vídeo! 👍✌
Love these videos but if i have to watch one more advert about BT sport i'm going to cry
Anyone have any experience on the impact of using this on iPhone X with Fenix 3 or 5 battery life?
I've got the edge 1000 great using live track but it won't share on Facebook have to share via twitter and then share to Facebook via twitter
I love your video I have every thing working great however, when I finish my ride and stop the activity for download to strava my rides are two rides with slightly different stats why is it duplicating?

@@Bungle2010 Thats unfortunately apparent now. It is just GPS tracking, but I guess the data portion needs internet. Oh well.
Good tut, but it doesn't work on my Iphone since I dan't get FB nor twitter to work with IOS...
If you step away from the bike does the live tracking looses the connection?
Problem is with the live track it looses Bluetooth signal after few miles (Garmin 520 & iphone 11) so the location position just spins..
does the rider need to have the phone with them? or will the tracking work with only the gps on them
As long as the distance you ride is within the bluetooth range of both devices you're fine :p
is there a bluetooth setting on the 510??
Ho does one cancel Livetrack if you no longer want people to follow your real time riding and location?
Hi. I hope I'm not being 'dense' here, but it's not immediately clear to me what program or app I need to run on my computer / laptop to enable real time GPS monitoring. Si loves those lego games
I set up Facebook as Only Me for a test and can't figure out how to change it now. I am sure it is probably obvious but I can't see it. Any help?
Will the live track cost internet? So is it possible to use it abbroard?
geertje124 I think I uses the internet but it is a really small amount of data
Yes and yes; on the second part about usage abroad, check with your cellular carrier for any international usage fees that may apply.
GCN, is it necessary to have mobile data switched on too?
GPS withn the phone?
Thanks for your contribution. Helpful
You seem as puzzled as me as your posting questions rather than solutions
+stefis6 Sorry that you have to put up with all that crap.. but I understand what you mean.. so, in an Android phone unlike iPhone you have an option of Mobile Data and GPS, but in this case you only need mobile data as you will use the GPS on the Garmin.
***** and he says I'm a troll. LMAO
GCN geek edition, nice
What is the cheapest garmin which will show you where you are?
Garmin 510
The garmin edge tourism I think
I don't think the touring even had bluethooth connection
Ethan Fletcher I have a Garmin 62s. It's not the cheapest. I have topo maps for all of Canada in it because I use it for hunting and hiking. I often carry it when I bike ride. It tells me where I am and how fast/far I've been. I haven't done it yet but I could Velcro it to my handlebar stem instead of clipping it to my belt loop. Live Track is not working all the time now they are trying to put a patch up not sure when said it could be shortly or maybe even weeks away.
Hey talked with Garmin and was told they recommend for the time being using STRAVA beacon, wonder if they are the same company now if not nice of them to show us which is the better company
You forgot to mention it stops working completely the second you lose mobile signal. Which happens pretty much anywhere that is interesting to ride
Do anybody know how to put satellite map on the 1000 ... I want it like Googles
Great concept but too bad the Garmin bluetooth connection is shoddy at best.
With full beard Dan immediately looks 20 years older :-)
arcosh22 What he's hoping is that he looks 25 years younger when he shaves it off.
Global Cycling Network OK, that's a clever strategy.
Me and Si both have OnePlus Ones.☺
Was that an example animation, or are you really in Bristol?
Redfield Media We were really in Bristol.
You forgot to show the heart rate, elevation, speed, cadence, and power graphs at the bottom of the Live Track map.
Different pairing codes!
Wait you have to bring your phone with you to use the live track? Then what is even the point of having self contained GPS?!?!
I do like Simon's one+ phone, but I think it is far too big to be carrying around in my back pocket, considering getting a cheap Nokia just for calls+txts...
I can’t find LiveTrack on the dash
And the codes were different.....
Am i the only who notices Dan searched Lego Games? LOL
Did anyone else notice that the Bluetooth pass codes weren't the same?
Just use the Glympse App
That's all nice but as garmin completely ignores windows phone, I'm not about to change my phone just for this! Sort it out Garmin!
I think one way to slow down the battery draining so fast would be bring your navigation set up on our watch with a track further a part. So instead of every K its maybe every 5-10K recording.
It's great, when it works. Garmin software blows.
What a hassle I'd rather save the hour fucking about and ride
Lots of gaping holes in your explanation of how this works; this is abundantly clear from the many comments posing basic questions that are unanswered by your video. Empathy toward those of us in the initial phase of exploring this technology would be a good goal as a presenter of information. Maybe next time cut out some of the trite, childish clap-trap and focus on informing the viewer.
Does the rider have to bring the smartphone along on the ride? Believe it or not, there are those of use whose every heartbeat and breath and satisfying moment are _not_ dependent upon a phone or other gadget, so please don't assume that we're all inseparable from some electronic teat which we take with us everywhere.
And do the "followers" magically see the rider's progress on the insides of their eyelids? Is it projected upon their fashionable cycling eyewear? Do they see it on some Garmin-provided web page? Do viewers need to authenticate themselves in order to follow my ride, or is there anonymous access such that my boss and my neurotic exes can easily stalk me on every ride?

I can't see the use of love tracking - its just too egocentric imo. And id never take my good phone out with me!
Holy Christ that GPS cost almost as much as my bike.. O.o
Samsung s8, no option of facebook. This proper sucks
Are we just going to ignore the "lego games" that was searched for?
Great vid apart from the obviously rigged Rock Paper Scissors game
For me it is no LiveTrack, it is only to see all about wher someone is and som Date.
LiveTrack for me is Realtime, as Runtastic has, but Gramin has nothing to do with that.
A Disaster as this prices, I think Livetrack suggests realtime but it is a lie
