WOW! I’ll even say that backward... WOW! This is a brilliant sermon on why Christians should dive deeply and daily into the Psalms. May all people gifted with the God-given talent to put the Psalms as NT Wright explained into songs that connect us in the modern-day worship songs in church it could transform in an extraordinary way anyone who sings them and allows the words to saturate our hearts and minds.
I know that for most the Psalms was/is their favorite book, but it has never been mine. Mine would most likely be the gospel of John, and Job. So, I went in prayer asking the Holy Spirit to help me. The Lord had taught me about the persecuted church. He had led me ( after receiving the Holy Spirit) to read Biographies of Christians through the church history, and testimonies of the persecuted . These have been heavy on my heart for decades. So, He led me to pray through the Psalms in a plural way using we, us, our… for His suffering church throughout the world. As Iread through the Bible every year, praying through the Psalms has become my delight. David was persecuted by Saul and betrayed even by family members, so it fits.
Wright is an absolute genius! Not only has he demonstrated himself the leading NT scholar of our time, he now demonstrates a firm command of the OT (from a Christian perspective) as well. I'm blown away. Thank you, Bishop Tom, for straightening out all those misconceptions about the scriptures I developed over the first 40-50 years of my life! My question to you is, have we in the Western church gotten anything right?
