    I have played over 200 new C64 games of various shapes, styles and sizes this year. I have to agree with the number 1. What a great year for C64 owners, with so many games in development to look forward to. Happy New Year Louie, and thanks again for your excellent videos.

    The fact that Rogue64 never made the top 10 is proof how vibrant the scene was in 2022. So many great releases.

    The only change I'd have done is Polar bear in space at number 3.
    Congratulations has to goto the coders for Eye of the beholder, one amazingly fantastic achievement. One game I'll be playing next year.
    If it wasn't for Eye of the beholder Sonic would have won definitely, yet another amazing achievement.
    Looking forward to what these coders do next.
    Wonderful year for the C64, here's to 2023 😁👍

    Sonic is impressive, but given the REU requirement, it feels more like a special commendation title to me. Lykia is great, but I wish it were longer. I'm ashamed to say I have not yet played EotB.

      @@RetroGamerNation Hopefully that's "at least" another 12 months. It'll be sad to see you pull up stumps in Jan 2024 - but sadly, I guess all good things must eventually come to an end. Let’s hope you can keep the channel going, you've so much to offer - I love your honest, unbiased, no-nonsense, and yet interesting & informative reviews. Retro doesn’t have to be just C64 - perhaps you can kick on past the 12 month mark, by branching out into other retro gaming content

    Retaliate DX claimed 10th spot, and is described in the most hum-drum way at 4:05 as "good, without being spectacular". So many other titles didn't make the top 10, yet could be described as much better than that

    Didn't know there's "Bust-a-Move / Puzzle Bobble (Commodore 64)", so... I'll give it the "First Bubble Shooter Game on C64", "Best C64 Game that Bubblun made", "Most Arcade-Accurate C64 Game", "Commodore 64 Developer SoA", "Developer Seal of Approval" and "Most Longetive C64 Port" awards.

    Why didn't all games use the extended color mode? the few I've seen that do so, look gorgeous

    • @vetodrom
      @vetodrom ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because it does not fit most game concepts. The graphics are restricted to 64 chars to a charset in ECM which is a quarter of regular charmode.

    • @thewilds9384
      @thewilds9384 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a great mode - but for most games with a complex organic tile set in mind you just don't have enough chars to produce anything which isn't repeat pattern based.

    • @kodiak64
      @kodiak64 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am also baffled about Puzzle Bobble's omission from the top 10. And I thought the Polar Bear game deserved a higher ranking; it's certainly on a higher technical level than most of those that placed above it.

    A bit underwhelming to be honest. Not sure about some entries, like Retaliate, Polar Bear (wasn't that a 2021 title btw?), and Empire.

    • @RetroGamerNation
      @RetroGamerNation  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The great thing about the RGN awards is that its not determined by one person. So for a game to get in the top 10 then you have to have a few people selecting it. As mentioned in the video, the eligibility period was mid December 2021 to mid December 2022. Polar Bear is a 2022 release while Tenebra, Sonic and Scramble were released in the last two weeks of December 2021.

  • @lastburning

    Ports are boring. I guess it's rare to have both technical skill and game design skill.

    • @RetroGamerNation
      @RetroGamerNation  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tend to lean towards your thinking. I prefer original games over ports. Game design is an under rated skill.
