There are a lot of techniques that are quite hard to even execute ones in the beginning! Practicing takes time and it took me personally a ton of time to get used to it (like moonwalking) You don't want to know how often I failed some techniques while recording this video, I just didn't include the fail footage hehe 😏 I hope this video helps you on your journey of becoming a better player!
Thankyou! So many "beginner" rivals 2 videos are for people familiar with fighting games, not complete noobs to the genre like myself. Really appreciate the addition of showing the thumbstick movements like you do and not just relying on how Rivals can show it on the bottom of the screen with certain UI settings. It nice and clear the way you do it.
i learned about doing turnarounds much more easily with the half circle stick motion from one of your smash videos, and it made my combo game in rivals 1 sooo much better. i could actually turn around and do a backwards move mid combo without worrying about accidentally just dashing away. i could actually use backairs hahaha. very good tip, tysm! im glad youve made this video giving a bunch of little tips like that, itll be very helpful for beginners! i actually didnt know about pivoting until this vid!
what a well presented, detailed, and concise video. the type of shit that should be an official resource. really well done, i’m looking forward to more advanced guides
I feel like one important technique was left out about dash dancing. Fox-trotting allows you to keep dashing in the same direction while also allowing you to dash dance freely allowing for really unpredictale movements.
I have a bad habit of accidentally dash attacking when I just want to babydash to reposition myself and utilt. In the first minute you've already given me a solution by telling me I can tilt the control stick diagonally up to walk. I'm going to be watching a lot of this video in the next few months. Thanks bro!
As someone who has been playing fighting games quite literally all my life thiss is probably one of the best guides i have ever watched i honestsly learned a lot for someone who is new to the competitive side of platform fighters and i really found this helpful keep it up Silli great content
Finally something that a beginner can easily understand and try to replicate. Awesome video. Would also like to see a video going over some drills new players can do to get a grasp on the gameplay flow.
i genuinely could not figure out Cactuar Dashes to save my life and this video made me understand it perfectly 😭 I was originally returning to neutral on my stick Thank you!!
Excellent video, thanks for putting this together! I knew most of this already, but a few of these techniques were new to me, so I'll have to check them out. Also with a proper explainer maybe I'll finally figure out doing a moonwalk consistently. I really appreciate the control stick visual especially, having that for reference makes it so much easier to understand the movement.
This guide actually helped me make sense of what I was actually doing in a strange way. I lose the feeling in my left wrist from time to time, so I kind of did these things on instinct. I know it sounds really weird and stupid, but I feel better about my movement thanks to this.
Fantastic guide, really enjoying your Rivals content in general as I'm absolutely in love with the game myself :) Going to be keeping up with your uploads(even though Fleet annoys me)!
At first glance of the video, with a tutorial on how to slow walk vs. dash, I assumed there wouldn't be anything to learn from this. I'm not entirely new to platform fighters, I've been playing smash bros. with friends for years now. That being said, I was curious how such a simple tutorial of one control (the control stick) could be 8 minutes long . . . and here I am knowing full well I've never even done half of the listed movement options. Thank you for the in-depth tutorial, I can't wait to spend hours practicing consistent baby dashes & moonwalking LOL
Trust me, I didn't think it would be 8min long either. My original estimate was like 5min top haha, but then I found out more stuff and the script got longer and longer LOL
When I saw moon walk I realized I have a contractual obligation to mention Falcon’s turnaround animation in Ultimate. My duty as a Falcon main is now complete
Btw babydash also has an interesting side effect of kinda slowing it's momentum if used with anything that isn't shield or a special It's still a great option to learn but if it feels like you can babydash shield further then you can babydash jab, that's why (Also babydash neutral b on clairen lol)
Nice Video! It would be cool if you make also a Video about edge guarding (fight at the border and use the edge to avoid enemy to come back). I see many people do that, but dont know how to do that
i mean its only really in smash bros type games so its really not that common of a skill. as someone whos experienced in traditional fighters i have zero consistency in getting the gentle presses in smash type games despite trying now for years to learn them it feels so wrong and counterintuitive.
Anyone have any tips on how I may be able to make the game feel more responsive? Maybe it's just the fact that I've been playing SSBU forever now, but the frame delay on movement just seems insanely slow.
Damn this looks so cool but as a smash player putting this into my gameplay sounds hard. Gotta figure this out once I figure out it how to connect my switch controller to my stupid laptop bc it’s not working It feels like rivals gives you too many options, like WOW.
I cannot manage to do a moonwalk, I spent 30 minutes inputting the dash into half circle and barely succeeded a half baked moonwalk a few times (and my character turned around...)
It might sound stupid and it also might not help you, but when I have my browser (firefox) open the steam games drop frames in general (not just rivals) If that's not the case, then I don't really know what's causing the dropped frames :/
@@Sillintor I’ll make sure other apps are closed next time I play. Do you use the standard default settings in game? I read some Reddit posts saying windowed mode reduces frame drops
i have problem with doing jabs left or right when i need to do it quickly i always do dash attacks insted and its driving me crazy, my brain cant cope that i need to do its slowly with the stick.
Can you make a keyboard guide? When I played the demo during NextFest the game was basically unplayable on keyboard and I'm not sure if I just didn't set it up right.
@@MFsyrup The layout wasn't my issue. It was things like not being able to dash and not being able to jump+sair buffer like controller can. Things like that, can't quite remember ALL the issues I had cus I stopped playing due to having too many issues (one really annoying thing was my settings kept being deleted every match and I would have to make a new profile and all the keybindings and toggle all the settings i had). Going from how smooth and responsive keyboard is on brawlhalla to this was an absolute nightmare. I'm like 97% convinced they only played controller while developing this game and keyboard was a distance afterthought. Controller was the only way I was able to get the game to respond to my inputs properly. Heck the game wouldn't even pick up inputs from my razer macropad so I had to have my hands uncomfortably close (I have really broad shoulders so even having my hands both ends of a full size keyboard is not comfortable for me and use a keyboard and macro pad combo for gaming so i can spread my hands apart comfortably.)
@@AkariSarzul you should try enabling the autorun feature in controls. Its meant for keyboard players, that way the walk modifier is used for running. May feel better
I normally don’t have an issue with it. However I am playing on Bluetooth connection. Is there a stick sensitivity I need to adjust? Or is it the fact that I’m on a blue tooth connection, instead of directly connecting to my pc?
I've been able to do it on many pc controllers, basically cheaper xbox controllers. It just takes practice and remember it's not the most important movement option. Get everything else down first, including stuff involving other buttons. After that you can decide if you want to practice baby dashes and pivots.
The problem are the other mechanics (Babydash + Dash dancing) There is 1 frame of your character model turning around during a pivot, this is the window you need to hit, if you go for a 2nd frame you already initiate a dash (for dash dancing) And because you are initiating a dash for 1 frame only, a babydash comes out instead of a pivot.

you can pivot consistently and out of any dash if you use walk mod, dash -> walk mode -> flick stick on the opposite direction of the dash
great video thank you. looking forward to the more advanced movement guide.
Would like a movement guide on more advanced techniques like wave dashing, also how to implement these techs into gameplay.
I've been subconsciously doing moonwalking by accident. Now I know how to do it consistently thanks to this video. That and baby dashing.

So I need a higher end controller to babydash? Feels impossible to consistantly to do on an Xbox controller…
The controller I used for this guide is an original gamecube controller, not modified. It should work with an xbox controller as well

Everything seems a little harder on Xbox but you can do it you just have to feel it out
oh wow this is gonna be difficult to execute
Why are pivots a 1 frame window?
The problem are the other mechanics (Babydash + Dash dancing)
There is 1 frame of your character model turning around during a pivot, this is the window you need to hit, if you go for a 2nd frame you already initiate a dash (for dash dancing)
And because you are initiating a dash for 1 frame only, a babydash comes out instead of a pivot.
