  • This video is my review of episodes 1 and 2 of The Acolyte. This controversial Disney Plus TV show has made the headlines but for all of the wrong reasons. Lee Jung-Jae as Master Sol was by far the best part of the show. He dominates every moment he is on screen thanks to his superb acting. My favorite moments were when he sat with Osha as they reminisced about her Jedi training. It felt like a real father-daughter moment so much so, that I wished these characters had more interactions with each other. I also liked the scene where he accidentally let out that Osha had a twin. It was a subtle look he gave that showed us he let that out by mistake. This makes us wonder even more what actually happened the night he found Osha. And speaking of that, I love a good mystery and even though I thought the focus would be around learning that Osha had a twin, the real questions are what happened that night and who is behind all of this. I am looking forward to seeing how it all went down even if it means we will see Sol in a different light. It was fun watching Carrie Ann Moss essentially reprise her role as Trinity in this show even though it was short-lived. She was great with her 'Jedi Kung-Fu' moves but I don't think we will ever see that again. Too bad she wasn't in the show more. My biggest issue is that we don't care if Mae takes these Jedi out because we do not know who they are. We spent only a few minutes with Indara before she meets her demise so the stakes are not that high. The same goes for Torbin with his awful, fake beard and overall look. We don't understand why he has chosen to meditate this way or what pain he is in. I think more time should have been spent with the four Jedi so we can care about them before Mae comes for revenge. And the bad decisions by the Jedi are so silly that they hurt the story. The Jedi think Osha may have taken down a Jedi Master so why would they send the inexperienced Yord and his Padawan to arrest her? Even if the Jedi are supposed to be arrogant, they have been around of a long time and through many battles so they should have taken this more seriously. Also, once we saw Osha get on the ship by herself I knew she would somehow escape. Allowing the hero to make smart decisions forces the villain to be stronger so they can be a worthy challenger. This, in turn, makes for a better story. I love Star Wars and root for every show to succeed. So far it has been a mixed bag but I am hoping the next episodes are even better!
