One of your many skills is making your viewer feel that , deep down, they already know what your explaining, they just couldn't put it into words as clearly and succinctly as you. Thank you for sharing.
You're by far the most enjoyable teacher I've tried on all of TH-cam. Your brand of genuine, kind, serious, with a little bit of goofy mixed in. Bravo Eric. I'll be pouring through your videos!
A couple weeks ago a local retirement home asked me to play a singalong for the residents there. I'd never played a lot of these songs, show tunes and pre-rock hits and folk songs. Fortunately a lot of experience in knowing my chords and creating a rhythm people can sing with meant I could just pull the changes off the internet and listen to a song a few times and I was off and running. Being a better lead player wouldn't have helped me much! And it turned out to be more fun than I would have thought.
Yeah, I've focused too much on theory and haven't got down any solid riffs and grooves. Thanks for pointing out the importance of having recognizable riffs to jam with.
Hello Eric, just found your channel as an amature guitar played who hasn't been playing for 13 years! loving it too much! Can't wait to end my shift too try some!
In response to the Mazzy Star groove, that tip to hit the B and E string open while changing chords took me right back to 2006 when my first guitar teacher was teaching me how to strum. That was the key trick that got me over my first major learning hump. Syncopated strumming is so fundamental yet so difficult to get right as a beginner! If you're just starting out and you need an extra 8th note of time between your chord fingerings, just hit the B and E string open so you dont break groove!
Loved this one, especially having the recommend list of songs to learn! I’m a trained classical guitarist but I have been wanting to get into blues and rock. Your channel has been a huge help for learning the style and just song suggestions, as I don’t know that much of the rep. Would love to see more of those. I’m grabbing your caged course next paycheck and I am super excited!
I'm an ex lead guitarist from age 11, been switching from bass to lead to keep up my speed on 5 string bass. Thanks I'm 73 playing in bands that get occasional gigs.👍😅🎸🎼🎤
My repertoire so far for my jam session this Sunday: Ziggy Stardust Midnight Rambler Stray Cat Blues Jane Says Thank you for Your suggestions in this video!
To build a repertoire is something I find incredibly complicated. You practice a lot of different things and in the end fell sometimes you cannot play any song correctly :)
You are great Eric. Would love to see you go through Down by the river by Neil Young as well, it has such a cool rhythm-groove. Been practicing that for long and I still struggle hard sometimes.
If you’re going from playing on your ownsome on your sofa to jamming with others, make sure to leave space for those other people. Like Neil Young playing it differently depending on if he’s solo or with a band.
Hey! Love these videos and your instructions. On the subject of Jam sessions and Rythm, may I suggest a deep dive into Bob Weir’s Rythm playing? The Dead are the OGs of jamming and Weir’s Rythm guitar playing is so unique!
The doors of perception, or the door into (guitar) summer ;) Applying bookish associations (my apologies) to convey that your lessons have that quality of being inspiring for learning, performing and teaching practices. Thank you, thank you, thank you :)
Hey Eric, is there any possibility that you could do a video on Audiation and how to practice for guitar players? This is an issue that I struggle with and I think, that many people might not know that this is one of their struggles aswell… I‘m quite sure that you would do a great job explaining it - since you always do!
Getting ready to head to a band rehearsal ( banjo player, but now akso on electric guitar 😅) …. gonna watch this when I get back, but yes, I already kinda keep a few riffs I like and dont try to copy solos not for note
This was great. Like you said, I don't think Neil Young gets enough credit for the nuance to his playing. It's why so many covers of him just don't sound quite right even though they appear easy.
One the issues with this is because people always say about certain riffs that “this is an easy one to play”. Then the player learns the notes and assume they have it. Nothing is easy if you focus on the nuances. Which is what music is all about. Being in time. Nailing the groove. Making the songs dynamics stand out. Etc. For example. “Seven nation army” is one the “easiest” songs to play. Almost every guitarist can play it. But listen how differently each person sounds playing it. Pressing the right “buttons” isn’t enough.
It’s a great gtr for jazzy, rockabilly, acoustic type stuff! Being a full hollow with a wooden bridge it’s not so great for bends and that type of thing
Slow Hands by Interpol is a simple song that sounds awesome. It uses some caged chords but nothing crazy. You're basically just sliding the same shape around the whole time.
Eric, one of your many skills as a teacher is your ability to remember what was hard despite having mastered the technique many years ago. Well done.
One of your many skills is making your viewer feel that , deep down, they already know what your explaining, they just couldn't put it into words as clearly and succinctly as you. Thank you for sharing.
Yes! I really think it doesn’t have to be complicated - if we have fun, and focus on feel that’s the stuff!

Yeah! That’s the gig right there!
@@EricHaugenGuitar Now that I'm closing in on retirement myself, playing for old folks is about right.
These godins are so nice. I picked up the 2 humbucker version last year and play it unplugged a lot more than I thought I would!
Yeah, I've focused too much on theory and haven't got down any solid riffs and grooves. Thanks for pointing out the importance of having recognizable riffs to jam with.
I love how he grabs the finesse that helps bring out a better musician in anyone!
ive recently found your channel and ive seen hundreds of guitar youtubers, but you are definitely my favorite!! i always click on your videos

Man, I love your videos.

You might be picking stuff that’s too complicated - try some simple stuff and dig in deep with the feel 😎

Repertoire is where it's at, for real.
Didn't know the guy from Jaws played guitar lol
But only two notes, one semi-tone apart
Hope he got Mary Ellen Moffit
came here for that 5th avenue
Nice Shoe 10-4
Hey Eric I'm thinking about the Godin, what I am wondering is in what context can I use it for
It’s a great gtr for jazzy, rockabilly, acoustic type stuff! Being a full hollow with a wooden bridge it’s not so great for bends and that type of thing
A Union Special hat from Raleigh?! My man
Hey Eric what amp do you use with your Godin?
Great video, great guitars and very good advice. What's the tune at the end ?
Just jammin on “Fade Into You”!
@@EricHaugenGuitar ha yes! I've it on my playlist just couldn't remember what it was . Thanks Eric
This is the last guitar training channel I subscribed to. It makes me feel like I could unsubscribe from all others.
Be a carpet for the song to lay on, amazing advice!
laying it down like good rug - Thank you.
Thanks Eric! What are the chords for bitter sweet symphony?
It’s just E Bm D A over and over - so fun!
31 years since Fade Into You, holy shit.
Please make a video on just Neil young covers, lessons, etc. 🙌🏻
Yeeees!!!
I play that doors song sometime's .. Its fun to see what you do different than me :-)
最初のところがめちゃくちゃいいリフ作れそう
This video just slap the shit outta me. Thanks Eric. Into the pocket it is. Oh well
What are some good two guitar songs with basic chords, and a simple guitar riff?
Ooooh good question! AC/DC always comes to mind aaaaaand The Stones
Slow Hands by Interpol is a simple song that sounds awesome. It uses some caged chords but nothing crazy. You're basically just sliding the same shape around the whole time.

is there an Eric Haugen Fake Book? 100 songs guitarists should know to jam?
