Thank you for this great tribute of master EW Korngold !
I am delighted to see nowaday his film music is played in concert halls.
Thus it at last reknown as just a good music, and not as it is so often an underrated music.
Korngold was a genuis and as well as his "serious music" his movie music is still played and recoded.
    A pure deligh 😊

One of a group of greats to immigrate from the rise of the Nazis. Such an icon. I never tire of those 16 film scores. He was genius. This is such an enlightening piece. So much more music did he compose. This is marvelous. Thank you. This says it all. Mr Korngold deserved more awards.

I bought a VHS copy of 'The Adventures of Robin Hood' in the late 1980's. After the first viewing........life long Korngold fan. A few years later I bought a copy of Gerhardt's 'The Sea Hawk: The Classic Films Scores of E.W.K' on audio tape, inserted it into my walkman and was just as stunned as with 'Robin Hood'. Timeless music.

At 6:45 is a picture of the great violinist Jascha Heifetz, who made the first recording of Eric Korngold's violin concerto.

Let's not be historical revisionists. Korngold was born in Brünn, capital of the Bohemian crownland (Böhmisch Kronland) known as Markgrafschaft Mähren.

I was born in Hollywood in the 1950s and grew up with these great films, many rerun on television at that time. My mother actually knew Dimitri Tiompkin. All these composers were amazing and influenced so much of what we hear even today. This tribute was enlightening and beautifully made. THANK YOU!

This is tremendous. Jon Burlingame knows and appreciates film music better than anyone. I am certainly looking forward to many more "mini videos" such as this which seek out and give deserved credit to the men and women who have shaped our culture.

That 1972 LP of Korngold's film music conducted by Charles Gerhardt - I think I played it so often I nearly wore it out.

As much as I love Korngold, there was also Miklos Rozsa and Franz Waxman. All deserve fair credit for the creation of great movie music. Elizabeth & Essex is one of my favorites. I'll sing Mahler Sy. No 8 at Carnegie Hall 11/18/17.

I bought AND (!!!) still have and treasure that 1972 Korngold (vinyl) album and it was the primary reason I love his music!!!. Between that and Victory at Sea, ...are the two (2) musical album/soundtracks that I am a lifelong love of classical music and symphonic suites!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only change i would make to this video’s writeup is it ends by saying “set a new standard for all film music in the 1930s and 1940s”. I would eliminate the “in the 1930s and 1940s” and just end it with ‘set a new standard for all film music’.

What is the music that starts at 2:04? Whatever it is, it's clear it was a big inspiration for Michael Covertino, who uses some of the same elements - - nearly verbatim - - in parts of his score to "The Santa Clause" (1995).
