This helped so much. This is the first time I have seen a video on blow drying. I have done some Dutch pours but they were disastrous. I like your second painting the best. Thank you so much for the video.

Yes, I have been having the same concern about scaling up in canvas size due to the condenser size. I can imagine in my mind how amazing a larger size of a gorgeous blow out painting would be, but I've been keenly aware that what I see in my mind is a scaled up version and would, therefore, require a larger condenser to achieve....or at least that is what I keep thinking will be true unless there is, somehow, a way that just blowing it "more" would end up with the result I imagine. But I've not been so sure it would really turn out that way. So I have been holding off even trying to do a painting like what I have been envisioning as I don't want to waste a ton paint. But to be able to take what we can do on smaller canvases and get that same look scaled up on a big canvas is my goal as well. Thank you for this video. I did not start with a blow dryer I was using on my hair as I had not been blow drying my hair. 😄🤩
I bought a dryer just for painting, but it was something like 3 or 4 years ago, and I just went to Big Lots and picked a model they had at the time, and I did not even realize then that models could change how the paint blows! LOL. I have been able to get good results with it (eventually! 🤣🤣🤣) but it is a full sized dryer, and I find that the size is just too cumbersome. I end up with the size alone just bumping into things (sometimes almost into the canvas itself!) and simply being more challenging to move around as I'm blowing the paint. I have suspected that a smaller size dryer is definitely better for this style of painting. I also have the same issue with my dryer that you have with the 3rd one you showed - where on the low setting it just won't move the paint, but on the high setting - ok - well at first I did tend to fling the paint across the room with that setting - LOL - but I have gotten a lot better at controlling the paint with it on that setting but I have had a LOT of paintings I've done over a few years with that one dryer in order to get better in that regard. My dryer does have the same sort of condenser shape your 3rd dryer has and I value your share on that as I was not sure if my condenser shape was making a difference.
I appreciate your share here as I have been wanting to get something that will be better in the experience. I have the same issues of the cumbersome aspect as your first dryer in my dryer and the same issue as in your 3rd dryer, as my model has the same sort of condenser. At least now I completely know what I'm experiencing what I am. I also don't use cool air for my blow outs and I've never noticed any difference when I did try it a few times. Like you, I have not noticed any difference with that, regardless of other people saying it should be on the cool air setting. 🥰🥰 Anyway - this is a helpful video. Thank you!

The only thought I had after watching this video is possibly trying to use the cool shot button on the 3rd hairdryer to see if it changes the amount of air you get coming out. Maybe you'll get less air on the high while using the cool shot or maybe you'll get more air on the low while using the cool shot. I liked the information here, thank you for posting this "experiment"! I use Dre Barrymore's Flower hairdryer and love it!

Hi, I have the 3rd one which I use for my fluid art creations. I don’t love it. But I use the high power while pushing the cool button so it doesn’t blow the paint all over the place. Just wanted to share that.

When hitting the cool button, the air output is reduced from the high mode for some reason. That’s what I have been doing. I’m also looking for a better hair dryer. I also find this one’s opening is too wide and lack of focus.

Hi Becca! I hope you are well! I have that third hair dryer as well as the small one, your favorite (which is my favorite as well). If you look at the Revlon concentrator from the bottom of the hair dryer up (like flip the whole thing upside down and look at it) you can see that it is in the shape of a curve or a smile and not completely flat. I believe this effects a lot of how the air flows out and when it's on low that little bit of air that shoots out from the sides is farther away (plus blows outward maybe?) and there for is just not close enough for it to push the paint like the middle or very center of it does cause its closer. I noticed yours has two little slits on each side of the concentrator like mine does as well. I considered covering them with tape once to see if that would help the air flow at all. Maybe it's just a combination of the holes and the curve to it?? hmm. Just thought of that.. But anyhoo, ultimately in the end what I have done is put another concentrator that was flat from a different Revlon dryer on it. IDK how I lucked out and actually had one that fit but I did. lol. (Don't ask me where the actual hair dryer is at that it went to though. lol. trust me I wish I knew!) That concentrator from the Revlon travel one does twist off so that you can attach another one to it.;) When I use it now, I use the cool shot and IDK if it helps A LOT or actually at all TBH but in my mind it does a little bit! lol. I hope this all makes sense and helps! Becca, I STILL keep going back to my fav smaller one though. It is just perfect for my paint consistency, and I am so beyond comfortable and USE to it. I am sure you can relate. Lauren from Lauren Michelle Art uses that Revlon travel dryer and has no issues, BUT she uses only paint & water and I believe her paints are much much thinner than what we use. So thinning out ur paints would work for a bigger canvas pour but if your anything like me, I don't wanna switch that up and have to go back and forth. lol. I have a Foxybae hair dryer (not a 2000wt. thats wayy too strong for my hair and blow outs lol) that was EXTREMELY expensive that I use on my hair, and you don't know how many times I have considered trying it out (nice concentrator on it too) BUT I don't wanna get it covered in paint!:( Lol! We both know it would get demolished if I tried it out and it worked good! But It's soo pretty with rose gold and a matt black finish :(... not to mention it matches two of my curling irons, a round blow out brush, flat iron PLUS a bunch of other things I had bought like brushes and clips for doing my hair. Maybe one day I will break and try it but.... ugh... idk. lol. Sorry for the long comment. I am horrible at explaining things! I hope that you can decipher my words and I hope that you eventually find the perfect fit for a larger one! The kiss blow dryer is a good one I have heard. I know a few fluid artists that use it and love it. Have a beautiful, blessed day! :)
I just wanted to say (while I have the chance) that I am soo beyond happy to see your channel growing and the magical pieces that you are creating Becca! I usually watch from my flat screen TV and haven't been commenting as much as I would like! You are extremely talented! When listening to you now, it sounds like you have been doing this for years!:) Most artists don't catch on with as many things so fast like you have!;) I am SOO SOO happy for you!! Your pieces are ALL so pretty with your own unique signature style! It usually takes literally years or even decades for someone to find a signature style as an artist! Way to go gurl! Lots of love! :)
P.s. I Just watched your new video with the yellow split base... it turned out so pretty, soft and delicate! That phalo blue really came through gorgeously mixing with the other colors! Phalo blue has a special space in my heart as well. I probably would've added even more that's how much I love it. lol But your piece turned out SUPER PRETTY!! I love it! :)

I think if you want that wider approach to your paints then narrow the concentrator with some making tape as I have found that the more narrow the concentrator the more you can approach the paints with the desired movement and control. I didn't think I could do Dutch pours until I figured out that it was the width of the concentrator opening that messed me up much like the newest hair dryer you have (a more oval shape). Jus t narrow it with some masking tape.

Having the same troubles now. I'm still learning and I realized the reason my colors are not moving is not them being too thick ( I made them super super thin), it's the concentrator - too wide, too thick, and it's not narrow. It hardly pushes the color and I have no control regarding the direction. When switching from low to strong on the hairdryer, the color just flies and gets overmixed. So I guess a different concentrator is the key. Or maybe a different hairdryer too. So much questions left when learning 😅
