    I know life is expensive but can you afford to go down to part-time at your job or take a different position that isn't as time-consuming/stressful? Nothing is more important than your mental health- that is priceless!! Hang in there

    • @AbbyAsselin
      @AbbyAsselin  ปีที่แล้ว

      i can afford to take a pay cut, but completely foregoing my salary when social media income has been super volatile for me this year just isn’t a wise decision. i could find something else that pays less yes but i’m so lost on where i want to go from here - bc if i stay in the same field, i’ll likely face the same issues at different places with busy seasons/unpaid overtime so why leave when i at least enjoy my benefits and my team where i’m at now ya know? & we’ve definitely made lifestyle changes since getting engaged/buying a house - it’s just probably hard to tell in 30 minute videos. we haven’t been traveling for fun like we did in the past (unless we’re going to florida to my parents, which is free to stay at) since last year, we don’t eat out or go out near as much, and i’ve significantly cut back on discretionary spending. could i cut out getting coffee on the weekends? yea sure but that would deprive me of joy & only save me like $1k a year 😂😂 & going part time at my level isn’t really possible at my job that i know of - and everything takes time (figuring out what i want to do when my time in big 4 is done etc)

    I feel like ever since you started your job at the big 4 you genuinely haven’t been happy or at peace 🥺 I felt this way at a previous job I had in social work and since I left I have been so happy. You’re job should never cost you your happiness or even just sanity…you have to create a good work life balance because I just see you being so burnt out. I felt exactly how you did I couldn’t imagine having to work as much as you do and especially on the weekends! You need time for yourself and to enjoy the stage of life you’re in because you will never be younger than you are today. I know you probably hear it from other people in the comments but just wasn’t to send you some encouragement to make a change that is better for your mental health. You can do it!! 🥺🤍

      I think she is just so stuck on the image of "working for a big 4," so she forces herself to work there and push thru. I also can't imagine that accounting is anyones true passion.

    Have you ever considered giving yourself the free time/life you desire? Are you obligated to stay at your current job for a certain amount of time? If not, give yourself permission to quit and take a break and do whatever it is that you truly want to do. You have social media as some source of income at least in the meantime. You’re a CPA honey, you can find a job anywhere 🤗 Prioritize ur peace and happiness! Wishing you the best ♥️

    I really agree with what you were saying about working out being a to do list item rather than seeing the bigger picture. I’ve been going to F45 since December and in the beginning i would dread going but after i felt soo good but i only went 1-2 times a week. Recently I’ve been dealing with a lot of anxiety and i started booking my workouts in advance and the difference it has made on my mental health is crazy. I feel great and when you started going to F45 it motivated me to keep going because i was so close to quitting. 😅

    When Ella ran to you 🥺🥺 sweet girl. I completely relate to everything you've shared, and also want to say that you don't have to give so many disclaimers. It can be equally true that you are grateful, but unhappy. That's completely valid. I wish you luck on your journey of discovering what will make you feel fulfilled. I also wanted to mention that it might be worth looking into taking a leave of absence from your job. Because you have a therapist (that you're on a break from, but still have a history established with), you may have the option of them providing medical records to "prove" that a leave is necessary. This helped me tremendously when I was in your position. Just a thought. Sending love 🫶🏼

    Oh Abby, I am so sorry for you! I deleted instagram and TikTok from my phone about two weeks ago and it’s been lovely. I do not think about what I do anymore and what others do. I just do what I want to do. So it definitely takes away the pressure. I know instagram is part of your job, but you could post from the computer if you really need to. So, give it a try. I think it’s helps. Maybe also make sure you know what is important to you in your daily life (work and free time) and then see how much is taken up by all the stuff you do and weather or not it’s worth it. And try to implement things, you love. For example, have meals/ dinners with friends and family if that gives you an extra boost. We all have to eat, so sharing something so normal, will connect you with your friends and it doesn’t have to be super long. You could also set up cooking nights during the week, which would break up your work monotony and would give you something to look forward too. It know both jobs are your jobs and they provide you with your income, but maybe you could go part-time with the CPA stuff, if that’s a thing? Or talk to a supervisor or something that can help reinforce your boundaries. I mean they can’t expect you to work 24/7 that’s just not good for anyone. I am here for you! And you will get past this stressful time! Try not to put too much pressure on yourself and how things ‘should’ be :)

    Abby please please please quit this job, or make a big change in your life- whatever that needs to be done that you’re scared of. Is having extra money or “affording” a big wedding or whatever lifestyle you’re trying to afford working a job you are miserable at really worth it? Is your mental health, sanity, peace, joy, free time, relationships worth a job? Money? A wedding? What’s the point of being able to afford a life you’re not happy in? I don't think I've ever commented on a video of yours, even though I have watched you since I think your junior year at Alabama. I am not a content creator but I do work full-time and take a full course load at my university each semester so I understand the position you're in. Give yourself some grace and let yourself feel your emotions. Crying multiple days one week might just be what you need. You can only be at this level of high-functioning for so long without time to decompress. You said that you work most weekends and haven't made any friends in Houston, so maybe you need to step away from one or two aspects of work. I'm sure that your viewers/listeners won't hold it against you to skip a few episodes on your podcast or maybe not put out as much content on TH-cam or Instagram weekly. As a loyal viewer I hope you can find balance and peace!

    Hey, just a thought. After the wedding and things simmer down, consider joining one of the Houston young professionals groups. It is younger people get together at bars and enjoy nightlife. With the wedding going on, it would probably be difficult now but it would be one way of expanding your social life.
    Also, do you have any hobbies outside of reading, podcasting and fitness? Houston has lots of various options in hobbies and then you could find others in the same hobbies. Not saying your current hobbies are bad just saying that starting a new one might open you to more people and possibilities.
    I travel to Houston regularly and I know that you can find a group of people who you could enjoy hanging out with.
    Last thing, I worked in a smallish accounting firm who did taxes and small audits. My boss was very particular and he would get angry when we messed up. I would get so worked up until I stopped letting myself get so upset. I would ask myself "will i remember this in a year?" "Will they remember this in a year?" You will hold it against yourself but they are going to move on.
    Thanks for reading and i hope you're able to gain someone from my comment. I gain inspiration from you. ❤

      thank you for the honest feedback and support! i’m trying my best to find the balance between being vulnerable & real while keeping a positive attitude, & it’s harder in some videos than others (for example, this one). hope to have you come back sometime!

    I have even less social events (and no boyfriend lol) than you so I 100% feel you on this! Work simply drains me so much I literally have no energy left or if I have it ends in a crying session because I’m so overwhelmed. Maybe that’s why I enjoy your vlogs? I can’t relate to a lot of routines. But also with the desire and the pressure to live more of a stereotypical 20s lifestyle. It’s hard, isn’t it? Choosing time consuming careers come with sacrifices I’m not sue ein equipped for. No advise her, just know I know how you feel 🤍

      it is hard! we put so much work into our careers and put them on a pedestal at a young age so when reality hits, it’s a tough pill to swallow when it’s something you’ve worked so hard for. thank you for sharing 💛

    I am so sorry you feel or felt like that (currently binge watching your vids) I understand that you probably wouldn’t want to be friends with your followers like that for safety reasons, but I do live in Houston (Jersey village/cypress area) if you ever do want to make another friend here or catch a cup of coffee. I also follow you on Instagram if you want to chat or vent. I am 25 will be 26 in March. I apologize if you find this weird. You probably won’t even see this.
