You have changed my opinion on frogs. Good to know that rit dye will work in a pinch! I like that kind of spotty/patchy look it gave it, like an antiqued or distressed look, and the color variance played very well with the handle!
I learned a ton Sam thank you! I guess I’ve been stitching wrong I’ve done the saddle stich but a different wrap technique more like a double cross idk it’s weird but I’ve only made 3 and non we’re good. Thank you again I really appreciate it!
Beautiful work. Any way to make a frog to go over a factory leather sheath without having to alter the original sheath? I have the Gil Hibben Assault knife and would like to add one
I only watched this because you did it; leather work is even more tedious for me than hand sanding. Nevertheless, you managed to make this very interesting, and your result speaks for itself. Love the drill press technique!
I drill all my sheaths. I need to use an adaptor chuck to take the small drill bits, but they are worth a couple of bucks on ebay and well worth it. Good tip - clean your drill press down well with a bit of degreaser etc before putting the leather anywhere near it.
Thanks mate! The frog idea minus the snap is fairly old, it's very similar to sword scabbards and baldrics. With a blade this size a keeper clip is unnecessary
Yeah I was screaming at the phone when you went to the drill press. DONT YOU F-ING DO IT! LOL very well done. You can also file a groove around a piece of wood or bone so it will fit around the completed project to burnish your edges. No matter what you use make sure to sand to a decent polish before use it to burnish
Beautiful sheath. I like the touch the frog adds to it.
My first ever leather working video. Very impressive results. Thank you for showing...
You're welcome, thanks for watching!
Sam, I use Rennaissance Wax on terracotta, and If you gently heat it over a candle as you are polishing, the smoke works into it as an antique patina!

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised! Glad I could convince you of the use of frogs haha!
Great video, Sam. And on that drill press: hey, if it works, it works.
Good video Sam, thanks for sharing your know-how.
Really like the style of the sheath. Great job in showing us how you do it. Thanks Sam!
Cheers Jim!
Well done mate, thanks for sharing, cheers..
I’ve always admired leather work. So satisfying to see it all come together. The voice over worked well. Nice job Sam!! ✌️❤️🇨🇦
Thanks mate, glad you liked it!
Awesome video! Loved the indepth! And voice over was great!
Thanks Ed

That is gorgeous! Is the design authentic to the 1830s? And how about a keeper to clip over the hilt?
Thanks mate! The frog idea minus the snap is fairly old, it's very similar to sword scabbards and baldrics. With a blade this size a keeper clip is unnecessary
Beautiful sheath, seems like a really nice knife to lose, because the two 15¢ snaps failed.
Do you store your blades in the leather sheath? Curious if it causes rust. Thanks
No I don't, because yes it can.
@@SamTownsBladesmith Ok thanks for the advice

Haha I knew you would take issue. Yeah I have other burnishing tools, but this one was thicker than my usual sheaths.
Shouldn't it be a voice Down Under. Lol Nice looking sheath Sam.
Haha thanks Ben
Another trick, after you burnish, rub with canvas and bees wax
Why don't you wet the hoies that way theywitt srayopen
Ulu no, round knife
