I did this video because I had seen that others had a similar problem that they could not get resolved. All relplies seemed to ignore the most simple possibility a breakdown from the 30a fuse to the switch. Power has to get to the switch before it is then routed to the other components. If all the indicator lights will not come on, it is probably no power to switch. Two 5 pin connectors in the wiring harness is a likely source of problems. I hope this helps. My first attempt at an instructional video.
Rory, did you get your '05 Rubicon fixed? I just did a frame swap from a rusted out frame, and now I'm not getting power to my display. th-cam.com/video/azdcwg0u6xU/w-d-xo.html
Thanks sir. This definitely will help me out with my dad’s Honda having a similar issue. A broken wire or connection is always hard to find. Good informative video
Thanks for the help, I think this is my problem as well. I knew it wasn't the battery since my lights wouldn't even work. I turned the switch on and pull started it and that works fine. Gave up on it a while back but this makes me want to get back to it.
Great video that you have shared Tom spending your time, am facing exactly the same issue years later on my 2004 Foreman 450, No dash lights but pull start works fine. I have posted your link to the Hondaatv forum so ppl can easily find your video & resolve their issues. I dont usaully post comments but here i was compelled to. Thanks again.
I have a parasitic draw of .134 amps at that same red wire at the 5 pin connector. when I unplug the 5 pin connector the draw went away. I found this wire by using a jumper wire with the connector un plugged. the draw was there when I jumped across the red wire that goes to the 30 amp circuit braker. I'm tracing it down now. Your video leaves me to believe it may go the ignition switch. Thanks for making this video
Thanks had the same problem along with no spark. Found the voltage regulator was shorted, and blew the 30amp in line circuit breaker. Disconnected the voltage regulator and bypassed the 30amp fuse and the dash lights came back on. Ordered new parts to fix.
If you would have taken it to a Honda dealership and they found what you found with the wire coming loose from the connector they would have probably said you need a whole new wiring harness instead of simply fixing that. I had a switch problem last year on a 08 Arctic Cat 650 H1 TRV 4x4. ATV would start right up run fine with key "ON" position, you then turn the key ignition switch over to "Lights On" position and it would kill the machine dead, a direct short. Turned out of course to be a bad ignition switch, $35.00 bucks later with a new ignition switch she's running fine and I have headlights now without killing the machine dead. It does not hurt to trouble shoot for yourself, and if you own a ATV you really need to be at least a shade tree mechanic to save some bucks so the dealership does not stick it to ya lol.
Great Vid Tom! I recently finished a frame swap on my '05 Rubicon (frame was rusted out). I just cleaned and rewrapped the whole wiring harness, checking all the wires for shorts and burnt spots. Didn't across anything unusual. Last night I finally put power to it, however the display didn't turn on. The motor did turn with the push button which got me excited. I swapped out the display since I had an extra one, still nothing. I checked the fuse box and noticed that the Fuse that says LIGHTS was toasted. I'm guessing this happened during my last attempt to the start it when it was still on the rusted frame. During that attempt, the ground terminal post on the battery got so hot that it started to melt. I was able to get the wires off and salvage the battery, which still works great. My guess is the Fuse box is toasted, however after watching your vid, i'm gonna look at all my plugs. Thanks!
We have somewhat of the same problem. The lights and the switch is working. The motor turns over but will only fire and still not run . Thanks for sharing this helps.
Thank u so much that help me out alot i cut them two wires and wire them up streight and my green light came on use to it only come on if i pull start it but now it work by the button my light dont flickers
Searched out this video because I am having similar issues on my 2000 Foreman 450 ES. No power getting to the dash. Battery is good. E shift functuons fine. Turns over like crazy when solenoid is jumped out. Lots of spark. Lots of good gas. Yet it will not turn over on the button. Nor will even attempt to fire. As I said its getting gas (plug gets wet) and plug fires nice and blue. Any suggestions? I'm going to dig into the whole broken wire thing over the next day or so.
Found a blown fuse on my 300 Honda fixed it and my green light started coming on cause it wouldnt before but my oil light flat out quit and I have no fire....I figured the fuse would return my fire but it only helped the headlights to work and neutral light...I replaced the oil sensor and still no red light check when key is initially turned on.....any ideas fellas....????
I’m having a similar issue with my 09. Dash doesn’t light up when I turn the key but I can get it cranked via the pull start and when I’m driving the dash will turn on intermittently. I have no idea where to even start
Well I feel like an idiot it ended up being a blown fuse. I didn’t even think to check those since it would still run I figured it couldn’t be that. Well it was a 50 cent fix
This might be what’s wrong with mine because when I wiggle or push down on them parts the n light will come on but when you press anything it will cut back off
Coop-YT_Gaming _______ I hope this helps solve your problem. I just used a straight hot wire from breaker to down side of the connector. Essentially bypassing the connector. Not had any problems since. Even the battery charges better for some reason..
Dalton Stiver Not sure about the spark, I think it needs power to the ignition for the fan control and neutral switch. But I do know the starter would not turn.
i need help my 97 foreman want to start when battery is hooked up. all the connectors are unpluged. battery is new i looked for hours at the harness and cont find any problem can someone help out thanks
Can anyone in here help me out with my recon 250 so the headlights turn on but the dash lights don’t and the electric start don’t do anything but when I cross the sylenoids she turns over just doesn’t start

Tom Sharpe did you ever get the problem fixed I'm going through the same problem with my '05 Rubicon
Very helpful hard to find videos of basic electrical. Having issues with mine and this video is gonna help determine the issue faster. Thanks again.

I’m having this same problem on a 2014 Forman the wiring seems to be a bit different but I think it’s the same problem thanks for the help!

Spot on had the same issue though it was starter solenoid looked and had a bad hot wire just like you had thanks buddy.
Good video, just solved my problem by watching it, Thanks

eanan strain thank you I hope this helps solve your problem. I later just bypassed the connector with the hot wire.
Thank u so much that help me out alot i cut them two wires and wire them up streight and my green light came on use to it only come on if i pull start it but now it work by the button my light dont flickers

👍👍
Great video. Thank you very much! Mine was burnt out at the pins.
Erin Kretchman thanks
No no. Thank you. You learn something new everyday. Love the TH-cam.
Erin, burned out at the pins of the harness plug? or the Fuse box?
@@lonestarangler8407 ignition switch needs to be replaced also. It melted mine
have the same problem with a 2014 rubicon 500 and i cant decide if it’s a fuse or ignition
Hey will this be the same problem on a Honda 125 foutrax
I’m not sure, but I think it is a possibility. If you can get a jumper power to the switch and this should solve the question.
Thank you so much!
I have a 2007 Honda Foreman 500. Does your model have the wire hold up sections to hold your plastics up??
Not sure my daughter has it at her home now so I can’t check. I think it does.
My 99 Honda foreman 450s idles but touch the throttle and it dies . Any suggestions out there really need it for around the farm
I have this problem on a 2003 500 foreman rubicon, no power at all, the battery has power
I always have to change my ignition switch every 3 to 5 yrs, I usually wiggle the wires under the switch and the oil light would turn on
Giday I’ve got the exact same problem just wondering when you did this was the hour light ticking over when you did this?
Jack Dickson I cant remember but I think I the hour meter was getting power. Sorry I can’t help.
I’m having a similar issue with my 09. Dash doesn’t light up when I turn the key but I can get it cranked via the pull start and when I’m driving the dash will turn on intermittently. I have no idea where to even start
Kevin McMurtrie hope you found your problem. Sounds like a wiring problem like I had.

Tom Sharpe ok I’m going to work on it now off that’s the problem I’m definitely going to use your way of doing ot
97 Honda 400. It's not getting fire to the spark plug wire
Check the fan fuse and the one of the other fuse it happened to me and the fuses were blown and it needed a fresh battery
My 450 won’t start it back fires when cranking over it’s getting gas but doesn’t see to get spark
Could you still get spark with this problem? And does the electric start still work?
Dalton Stiver Not sure about the spark, I think it needs power to the ignition for the fan control and neutral switch. But I do know the starter would not turn.
@@Flyfishntn1 ok thank you that helps a ton
It’s ur fuse box on my old bike I checked the fuses and one was bad I threw a new oneon there and it came back on
i need help my 97 foreman want to start when battery is hooked up. all the connectors are unpluged. battery is new i looked for hours at the harness and cont find any problem can someone help out thanks
Would this cause one to not fire
I don’t think so, on mine it would not get power to the starter.
I have a 2000 honda foreman 450 it turns over but doesn't get spark I replaced the coil and the spark plug
Hey did you figure out what was wrong

A 9 minute video that could have been 30 seconds.
Banditt then instead of being a critic why don’t you do a 30 second one.
No shit. Thanks for your effort I enjoyed your video. Most informative
Anybody know why my four wheel drive wouldn't work on my 2005 Honda foreman 500
