      Hey Billy, Thanks for the kind comment. I don't always do how to make tutorials within machine overviews but thought it was important for this premium entry-level machine so newer users would understand the process of making a milk beverage on a single boiler machine.

    This looks like a great machine for a home espresso lover. Get a good amount of features of a dual boiler system; but gets to temp faster, all while saving $1000. The savings would open up funds to go nuts with a grinder. I may have to upgrade from my current Breville Infuser. Great review as always Marc.

    Excellent review. I have had my Profitec GO for 2 months and I am very pleased with it. I am making single drinks and have no problem with the single boiler work flow as outlined here. When I occasionally want to use a taller cup I remove the drip tray grid and set the cup in the tray. This way I can brew the espresso directly into hot water for an Americano easily. Cannot use a scale, but as my grind is dialed in, I can draw by time, 30 seconds. So far, I have not found a quirk or downside to the machine. PS the steam wand has been upgraded to cool touch.

    A few year back I was heavily debating which machine to buy for my first. It was between the Casa V (precursor to the Go) and the Rancilio Silvia (ironically that was version 5 at the time)
    There were reasons then why the Casa V was a better machine but what you couldn’t to it then was add a PID to it, which was easily available and possible with the Silvia. For that reason, I went with the Silvia. This is a beautiful machine and if my Silvia makes great espresso I know this will too but a Silvia with an Auber PID still beats this for ONE reason - it can do Preinfusion. If Profitec were able to achieve that with the GO then out of the box, it would be, probably, the only single boiler machine to ever buy.

    This machine is superb. It's literally the Gaggia but with all the advanced features from the get go without having to mod them in. The only complaint I have with this machine is that at the price point it's at, I'd have hoped for flow control ability. However, minor issue. The PID - and advanced settings available - are great. I would also like to note that WLL preconfigured my machine when I purchased it. Great experience all round!

    If I was mainly an espresso drinker, I think this would be my go to machine! I think also for making two small Italian Cappucinos (using a single shot and splitting the double shot into two cups) this will work very well! But if you have more than one person that wants to drink a late or flat white the workflow to cool the machine down between shots would be a massive turn off for me. Paired with a nice grinder this will give you tons of control to dial in the coffee.

    I'd love to see a comparison with the Ascaso Dream PID. It seems the Dream has the edge with features as it has adjustable pre infusion and volumetric control. The Go is slightly cheaper though so it's a tough call. Steam quality doesn't matter for me as I don't make milk drinks.

    I wish this machine was available a year ago. I purchased a Lelit pl41tem a year ago for the PID and an adjustable OPV. The 57mm non-standard basket has been a problem ever since. The IMS precision basket at 57mm is disappointing compared to the standard 58mm. I would have preferred to have this machine with a standard basket size. I would have easily dropped the extra $100 for it.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Yusuf, Yes you can get hot water from the steam wand by turning on the brew switch with the steam valve open. Some water may drip from the group head when producing hot water. Suggest having a second portafilter with a backflush disc installed locked into group when producing water in this way to prevent water drip. That's not required but keeps things cleaner. • @Wholelattelovepage

      Hi LK, Here's a video showing the descaling process on the single boiler Gaggia Classic Pro. Same process can be used on the GO: th-cam.com/video/VbLIIrhE8ms/w-d-xo.html
      You can eliminate descaling by filtering water to reduce calcium. We like these products from BWT for that purpose. They use patented calcium to magnesium ion-exchange leaving you with water which will not cause scale when used as directed yet has the mineral level needed to support good flavor
      BWT Bestsave anti-scale pad filter: www.wholelattelove.com/products/bwt-bestsave-s-anti-scale-filter

      BWT Penguin Pitcher: www.wholelattelove.com/products/bwt-penguin-2-7-l-water-pitcher
      The above filters also contain activated carbon to remove chlorination and other chemicals.

      I will look into the filtering options a bit closer, as when I try to replicate the steps for descaling from the abovementioned video, water starts running both from the group and from the steam wand. In the video it specifically says that water (with descaling solution) should be running from the steam wand only, in order to prevent blockage in the group head.
      Let me know if I am missing something here, or if you might have any further recommendations specific for the Profitec GO.

    How would you say this compares to the Profitec Pro 400? Seems like the main differences are that the 400 has preinfusion, a heat exchanger and e61 group head, but with much a longer heat up time and no PID, for an extra $700! Seems like you get more bang for your buck with the Go, no?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey tp, Thanks for the question! Yes, a major difference is boiler type. With HX in the Pro 400 you can brew and steam simultaneously. Heat up time is a little longer but you can always deal with that using an appliance grade outlet timer - get one with WiFi and turn on/off remotely or run complex schedules. Since the 400 uses an E61 group it is available with flow control: www.wholelattelove.com/products/profitec-pro-400-espresso-machine-flow-control
      Flow control allows one to change flow rate through the coffee during an extraction. With that you can tame brightness in coffees that are very fresh from roast, save an extraction when grind size is a little off and use other flow profiles to manipulate flavor. The 400 actually does use PID to control temperature. It's a little different in that you choose a temperature range usually based on roast level of the coffee and not a specific temperature. Hope that helps!

      Hi j, Thanks for the question. I have not used the Ascaso machine so cannot speak to it's pre-infusion capabilities. I can say in some cases pre-infusion is overrated. Especially true in machines using vibration pumps like the GO which build pressure and flow much more slowly than higher-end machines with rotary pumps. The slow build is in essence a type of pre-infusion.

      Hi JJ, Congrats on the new machine! It's not unusual for portafilters to clock-in a little short on brand new machines. As you use the machine the group gasket should break in and allow the PF to clock-in further without so much force. Stock group gaskets use a hard rubber compound. If you'd like easier clock-in you could replace the stock gasket with a softer silicone gasket: www.wholelattelove.com/products/caffewerks-silicone-group-gasket-73-x-57-x-8mm
      Silicone gaskets last longer and form a seal with less force.

When I initially looked at the machine I was a little put off by the plastic actuator on top of the group. The slab side panels are unique. In a general sense I find the overall build quality higher in the the GO. I'm not entirely certain how temps are controlled in the Stone. It's PID in the GO with the shot timer. Pricing I see shows the Stone about 50% more than the GO - not sure I could justify that difference.

    So the because you have to adjust the Pressure to read 10 bars to get 9 bars on the coffee, does that mean the gauge is reading wrong? what if you want to experiment with different pressures ? say 6 bars... do you then have to set the machine to 7 bars with the test basket?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi joe, The pressure difference is very common in espresso machines with vibration pumps. In most machines the pressure is read very close to the pump. The internal piping causes some pressure loss between reading point and what's actually present in the group. Here's the thing... What you're setting with the OPV is the maximum static (no flow) pressure. If you set to 10 you'll likely be 1-2 bar lower within the group during an actual extraction as pressure is released through the coffee. I think people get a little over the top about the 9 bar dogma. It's unlikely anyone is going to taste a difference between shot pulled +/- 1 bar. Do experiment with different brew pressures and see how they change flavor but don't get to wrapped up in 1-2 bar differences.

    Thanks Marc, great review, couple of questions: I'm a little confused as to why a pre-brew flush would be required? I didn't think this would be the case with a single boiler with PID.
    I had thought the cooling flush type scenario was really only necessary for HX machines. As it's a relatively small boiler the pre- brew flush will drop the temperature quite a bit will it not when the room temperature water is then introduced into the boiler? Second question would be is this the same PID that's on the higher end Profitec / ECM models and if so can you go in to the advanced settings and change the offset temp? thinking this might solve the issue if for some reason the brew temp is starting out too hot. Thank you!

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Daniel, Thanks for the comment and question. The GO has a boiler volume of ~400ml. The flush turns over ~40ml of water based on typical vibe pump flow rate of ~8ml/sec. The PID does have an advance mode like others. Just got in there and believe the offset is set to 10 degrees. With that, what you suggest is possible in theory but could have unintended consequences like brew temp dropping below optimal as a shot progresses. One could do essentially the same thing by just setting the t1 PID brew temp 10 degrees lower. Keep in mind this results in lower temps not just for the water but the mass of the boiler, group head and PF as well.

      Backflushing is a group cleaning process. Here's a video on that: th-cam.com/video/5LEd0XoFVRg/w-d-xo.html

      Hi BW, Due to limited supply it's currently only available with original machine purchase.

    Mark, if you are only making 1 espresso milk drink, do you need to waste the water by purging to cool down or could you just let it go down by time

      Hi Ken, yes, you should always cool down/refill the boiler after steaming.
