Great find. I hate those storage compartments on the bottom of those lanterns. I always take those off. They are more of a pain in the butt than useful. Plus they mess up the paint. Love those 220's. Their my favorites.
Ok , I can help , however it uses coleman white gas ok , not Kerosene just to start out , take a strip of leather put it in the jaws of your pliers so you dont scratch the fuel cap up . Take it slow , it will come off .
Oh man. This model was bomb proof. Great score. What month of 68 is it. I looked for two years for my birthday lantern 6/68. Found s couple on Ebay but got outbid on them. I finally found an font in really rough shape and built my own from old parts. Turned out like new. Hey do you have a Facebook account? There are some really great Coleman sites on there to help you get a valve on these things. Ebay really runs up the price unless you can find a really rare one.
On the bottom. Opposite side of where it's stamped 68. Should be a number of the month 1 through 12. Sometimes it may not be stamped very deep or could have a paint drip or rust covering it.
Great find . I had to look at this I just got two of them one is a big hat
