  • 99 % pure rage and anger vs. 1% fun. I think I never had something else breaking my spirit as hard as this new Sport. It's so amazingly frustrating and annoying to not be able to stand on the board and the pop-up is way easier in the Flatwater, I would argue.
Still I'm more than hooked and already planning when I can make it up to the coast again, I think this might be the most addictive form of foiling yet.

Thanks for being honest & posting video of all the frustration and difficulty- it sets more realistic expectations instead of all these videos of Casey & co making it look easy! I'm a reasonably experienced winger and doing a bit of prone foiling. Thinking of trying downwind foiling, but will now consider starting on a wider board as I don't have much sup paddling experience...

Thanks for the Feedback :) I think it might be the hardest to learn discipline, but also the most rewarding. Always difficult to judge how difficult something is when we dont see the learning curve.... Try it out for sure! I'm not sure if a wider Board will make it easier tho. I think the stability is going to increase dramatically but therefore you might lose some speed making it harder to paddle up in the end. No Idea what's better for the beginning but time will tell how it works the best...

I've started this journey and have been playing with SUP paddles and hand paddles on flatwater... hand paddles may be very helpful to get a pop up with less balance. Plus you can probably make your own hand paddles...

Great video with very honest and helpful information!
Have you tried your Gong HIPE 5'3" for wave SUPfoil?
Have you tried kneeling on the board with 2 handpaddles instead of standing?

      Thanks Mate!
I haven't tried the HIPE 5,3 in the waves but I have tried paddling it in the flatwater which seemed impossible to me. But It could be interesting to try how it performs in the waves, Patrice puts it to good use SUP Foiling for sure. As I can't paddle straight I turned the Board more than propelling it forward when trying so maybe it would be different with a better paddle technique too.
I would love to try the hand paddles! The only thing I tried last weekend was paddling it in like a regular prone board and that works really really good :D (In the shore break, not outside)

Great video! Thanks for being honest! Have you ever tried curve XLT or other larger front wing in downwind? If the answer is "yes" could you describe diferences? Thanks.

Thanks :) I have tried Downwind Winging the Curve XLT and it's not fast enough for the Ocean Swell. It does work somehow but the waves overtake you pretty quickly so you always have to pump out the back and then take the one behind which overtakes you again seconds later and so on... Its less fun than staying in one bump and really harnessing its speed...

Would you consider using this board for light wind winging? Nice work sticking with this board in the waves, that looked so frustrating.

I am! I will probably test it for winging this week already. I could Imagine that it's the ultimate light wind wingding machine, can't wait to find out.
It was sooo frustrating, lets's see if the balance increases to a point where its easy in a year :D
