I read my first Anthony Trollope, The Warden, during Victober 2019. Since then I have happily worked my way through the whole series of The Barsetshire Chronicles, finishing just a few days ago. I love his insight and quirky humour and am very glad to have finally discovered him. I am currently waiting for The Way We Live Now to arrive in the mail, but like yourself (re Trollope ) I think I will wait a little while before plunging into that one.
It was fantastic to hear your reflections on an entire year of Trollope! I read my first Trollopes for Victober 2019, The Warden and Barchester Towers. They really felt like one long book, since the story of the wardenship isn't really finished until the end of Barchester Towers (if even then?). I'll have to read the rest of the series to find out. Mr. Slope is surely one of finest creations of slimeballery in literature.
I read the Barchester novels after seeing Julian Fellowes’ adaptation of Dr. Thorne, and hearing his enthusiasm about Trollope. Trollope is quite the treasure trove!
I love Anthony Trollope and have started on my own "Trollope Project", so far having read The Chronicles of Barsetshire, He Knew He Was Right, and The American Senator. Currently I'm reading (and am close to the end), The Way We Live Now, and wow, what an amazing story. The characterization of Augustus Melmotte, the proverbial con man, and Sir Felix Carbury, the useless and reckless bad boy, are just BRILLIANT! Of course, since I haven't finished the story, I could modify this opinion since currently in the story there is a lot at stake, and I hope it ends in a satisfying way. Re author projects: I think they are helpful and I will continue doing them. But I have to say, last year was my "Dickens Project", reading all of Dickens, and by the time I came to Our Mutual Friend, I was over-saturated with Dickens, it was hard to finish the story, but I was incredibly happy I had accomplished my goal. I still and will always, love Dickens.
The Way We Live Now is such a fantastic novel - I adore it! And yes, I do think doing an author project like this is fun, but you can get a bit saturated!
I am almost finished reading The Prime Minister which is a wonderful book. I loved the Barsetshire Chronicles but for me the Palliser novels have exceeded them. I enjoyed Phineas Redux and was happy with the ending. In the series my favourite characters are Glencora and Plantagenet. I love seeing their relationship. Long term I want to read all of Trollope's novels.
I love my audio books I read lots of Trollope over the years and I have started to listen to some I have missed........poor Phineas must have been a great charmer with the ladies to have won so many hearts in the important area of politics........I wonder which member of parliament is this character based on........being Irish this interests me

I've only read him because of you, Katie, and I'm so glad that I did because I love his work a lot. I may be 51, and who knows if I can read them all before I go, but I would like to. You've really inspired me to read more of the classics, particularly the Victorians, and I will be forever grateful to you for that. You make them all sound so wonderful and for some reason I always thought Trollope was stodgy. So glad to be wrong about that, but it's all down to you. 😀
Great video. I read the Warden in Dec. & recently finished Dr.Wortles's school. I enjoyed them both & agree with something you said... taking a break between books to appreciate the stories. In the mean time read something else. Sometime in Feb. I plan on reading Rachel Ray & sometime in the summer The Barchester Towers. Victorian Literature💕😁

Ha so do I. I really do try - every video is digitally slowed down before I put it up, but I talk naturally very quickly and it's an impossible habit to break.
I'd still read it. It's not my favourite but books 5 and 6, The Prime Minister and The Duke's Children are the best of the series, and you'll get more out of them if you've read Phineas Redux first.
I am reading "Linda Tressel" by Anthony Trollope. Ohmygoodness. 😢💔 He must have known someone who suffered in this way. What an eye opener about how women have suffered in the name of religion. (everywhere) I hope when you read this you will do a video on it.
I shall be using this as a resource the next time I pick up a Trollope. It's very fun to follow your progress! I totally get that you need some more space between reading his books especially since they're fairly lengthy.
I find Phineas Redux very funny and enjoyed It very much. I found Phineas Finn very boring, I particularly dislike politics so I didn't like it much. Thanks for your insighits
Hi Katie. I really enjoyed following your Trollope project this year. I agree with you, reading his books within a short period of time takes some of the pleasure away. They seem a little repetitive. This year I’d like to read at least three more of his books. Two you’ve discussed here The Claverings, Lady Anna and the other one is Orley Farm. There are more I want to read but if I get to these three I’ll be happy. Looking forward to your reviews of other Trollope books whenever you get to them.

I agree with you about Phineas Redux. I am so glad you liked the Prime Minister, and I need to read that next. The original Duke's Children was so long Trollope was asked to cut a lot of it. The publisher has published an uncut version. I am so looking forward to reading it.
Of all the Vic novels u've ever read, what percentage of them are primarily about love 'n marriage? What Vic novel do u feel is the best that DOES NOT have l&m as central to the plot?
I have no idea. Certainly many of them, but I haven't been counting. I'm trying to think of a favourite Victorian novel not really about love and marriage, but all of my favourites seem to be able it a little bit . . .

Hi Katie I have a question. Do all the Palliser novels have to be read or do the books stand alone so that you can read some and skip some?
I recommend reading all the Barsetshire Chronicles, in order, and then the Palliser novels, also in order. They work so much better as a series.

I didn't care about Phineas Redux either. Anthony Trollope is my very favorite British author, though.
He's a great author - but that's not one of his best!
