    I always struggled with the final highlight on white. I never knew why the paint behaved different, now I know. Thanks for the great tutorial.
    When painting white on eyes, how do I avoid the same problem there?

    • @JuanHidalgoMiniatures
      @JuanHidalgoMiniatures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For eyes I don't use the ink, it's too runny and you have the risk of ruining everything if done after the face. For that I use white paint but I thin it down so it flows better.
      Best though is to paint the eyes before the face! I will make a video about both methods soon

      @@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Tengo un bote entero de tinta avellana antigua de GW que me da pena usar. Echo de menos esos tonos rojizos que le da a los dorados... tengo que probar la contrast guilliman flesh para eso. Desde que te vi usar la black templar para los metalizados y lo probé me he enamorado. He comprado varias contrast para usarlas a modo de lavado, y eso que no tenía pensado comprarlas porque para el uso para el que se supone que son no me acaba de convencer el resultado. Ahí estoy sombreando todos los panel linings de mis salamandras con la contrast Dark Angels green, queda muy bien. Me gusta más que el shade Biel Tan o Nuln Oil. Le da un tono de verde frio muy bueno que contrasta de maravilla con el verde calido y los edge highlith subidos hasta amarillo.
      Buscando un sustituto a este último botecito de tinta avellana hice una mezcla con tintas Inktense de Scale75 que el resultado era idéntico al 90% poniendo una junto a la otra. Era mezclando tinta madera y roja en no recuerdo que proporción, hice un botecito y lo anoté por algún sitio. Si te interesa pruebalo.

    Great video, Juan! Also, thanks for the tip on using the ink to thin/reduce the heavy body paints, as I've noticed that medium and water work, but do feel a bit extra cumbersome to get just right sometimes. I have loads of Liquitex Professional Heavy Body paints and inks, as well as Daler-Rowney and Amsterdam, so will give it a go and see what I end up with. Cheers!

    Can you share how you moved your paints over to the droppers? I'm in the process of oding it and I really don't want to trash my paints

    • @JuanHidalgoMiniatures
      @JuanHidalgoMiniatures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I followed Robpaintsmodels guide, but I did it even simpler. For Shades and Contrast just shake very well, cut the lid and pour carefully into the dropper. For the rest this is it:
      All you need is Distilled water
      1- Open the paint, add water and shake, repeat until the paint feels like it can flow, the amount depends on each paint, for the more stubborn stuff and for all metallic paints add agitators.
      2- Cut the lid of the Citadel pot and open it, place on the open top of the dropper and start to pour very slowly. You will instantly know if it's too thick, if it can flow easily just keep pouring until no more paint comes out.
      3- Add a bit more water into the pot and shake very well
      4- Pour that last bit into the dropper
      5- Profit
      Don't be tempted to keep adding more water to scrape each and every bit of paint in the pot, it will ruin the consistency and it's so little paint it's not worth it.
      For metallic paints try adding no water first, and add the smallest amount possible.
      Hope that helps!

    Me has convencido, he comprado un bote de tinta blanca extra opaca de la marca Schmincke. No porque no me fie de la Daler Rowney pero ya llevo tiempo usando acuarelas Schmincke y confio plenamente en la marca. Además su servicio al consumidor es de 10.
    Lo último que pinté en blanco fue el casco de un vidente Eldar usando el blanco que tenía, el antiguo Skull White de GW, y menudo horror. Hacía muchos años que no sufría así pintando y me cabreaba tanto, quedaba pastoso de narices en cuanto empecé a pasar de gris ulthuan a añadir el blanco. Me frustré tanto que ni lo acabé. Seguramente lo retome para probar la tinta.

    Citadel White Scar is the worst, open a new pot and there's a hard ball of goo right at the bottom which you have to undo with vallejo medium. Winsor & Newton acrylic titanic white thinned down with FW Artists Acrylic white ink it is then. i like it how the new Citadel paints seem to have a nice couple of off-whites. I'll always remember the Warhammer Visions magazine featuring the White Tau; they were painted all bumpy and chalky and non smooth and I thought to myself if GW can't do it how will I paint white on Tau..

    I’ve been painting for almost 2 years now. I’ve avoided white at all costs. So I’m working on an apothecary. I was going to paint him blue but I thought no I won’t like it, it has to be white. I’ve made so many attempts I literally have a chart with ratios I’ve been mixing it to both water and medium (I’m using white scar go figure) all failures no matter what I’ve done it’s just how many coats I have to put down before it looks like I’ve used a damn bottle of white out to paint it, I keep trying to just paint an arm but nope, I have a tally on my white board for how many times it’s been in simple green and It’s been 8 try’s. This is without a doubt the most frustrating thing I’ve tried to do in the 2 years I’ve been painting

      @@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I have not yet but when I type in painting white miniatures it comes up and I can see why lol. I’ve actually never used a contrast paint period. When I first started the guy at games workshop was explaining the difference and said contract was easier and I didn’t want to take the easy route because I wanted to learn the fundamentals. It’s been going great that it’s turned into one of my main hobby’s but painting white is man… it’s rough. I’m defiantly going to get some of that contrast and try a few different brands out, like that one you have in the tube looks super nice

    It's odd that you find White Scar worse than Ceramite White. I've usually heard people saying the opposite, and GW seemed to agree (since they discontinued Ceramite recently). I've never used either of them though, since I switched to Vallejo Model Color for blacks and whites in 2012.
