    I am continuously amazed when I watch your videos because I approach painting in the same way you do; often similar color choices and techniques. And yet you do it so much better because you as just that little bit more that really pushes everything over the top. So, as usual, another top notch video!

      Thanks! Don't be afraid of pushing yourself out of the comfort zone, it's the only way to improve.

      @@JuanHidalgoMiniatures while that's always been an issue too, most of the differences fall into two categories (well 3, I'm also am engineer and think like one, not like an artist 😂). Some are techniques and/details I don't think to use, like your to of using the teal glaze for beard stubble. The other are things that you just do better; for example I use the same brushes you do and frequently thin about the same amounts and yet have much less line control than you. The later could be fixed if if just practice technique more instead of rushing to finish the next model!

      @@ardyer3 I'm also an engineer! Don't work as an engineer though.
      Things like the beard stubble trick are things I was taught, I would have never guessed that on my own. As for brush control it's indeed a matter of practice and getting used to using a big brush for everything.

    Another great tutorial and a stunningly painted miniature. Very vibrant and warm, even with all the blue.

    Hey, this looks great and here is what this made me realize, they me if I am right... Your transitions are actually quite sharp, not exactly smooth, but when you look at the mini as a whole, it all looks great. I was wondering why, because when I tried sharp transitions it looked like a 5 yr old school project. And now I realize that is because you apply that style all over the model and this video made it clear because the whole thing only looked nicer when you painted the sharp contrasts on the wood staff. When it was solid smooth brown, the sharp edges from the other parts of the mini became apparent by contrast. But when it was all the same style, it all harmonized. Does this make sense?

      @JuanHidalgoMiniatures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It does actually!
      Yes I'm not a smooth painter usually, I can get smooth transitions if I want but usually I prefer to get sharp contrasts instead, works better for me as a whole.

      No worries, can you tell me how you painted her cloak to such a high standard in the darkish blue. Really good job! And just wondering what your best method is for painting models… Do you go around the model and base coat all the colours, then layer all, then glaze all? Or do you paint each section individually until it’s each section is finished? Thanks

    • @JuanHidalgoMiniatures
      @JuanHidalgoMiniatures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally paint section by section and move on when that is done. The best way is to paint from the inside out.
      As for the colours used here, I cannot really remember but I'm sure I started from Kantor, shade with black, and highlights are probably done with Caledor, Temple Guard, Gauss Blaster but again, can't really remember 100%

      Thanks for that I’ll try it on mine. What kind of brushes do you use? I’m after some better ones then Games workshops.

    cool, I always wondered how you get such good control with a brush like that, I just started using black taklon brushes (Liner set 10/0 5/0 3/0 and 0) and so far I like them, they are not expansive and my local Michaels craft shop has them.

    • @JuanHidalgoMiniatures
      @JuanHidalgoMiniatures  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a size 1 Raphael which is equivalent to a size 2 in other brands usually. I don't like tiny brushes myself, they don't hold enough paint. If the brush has a good point that's all you need.
      That being said, whatever works for you, that is what you should use.

    Hi mate. Quick question - is it Vallejo 72.092 you use for your brown ink?

  • @Samanar
    @Samanar 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for being the first person ever (at least in painting world) that has spelled Vallejo correctly (Vayeho). And no, I'm not spanish speaker, just know that basics of that language but it drove me nuts for years. Cheers :P
    PS. Can you make separate video on creation of those wonderful highlights on her (robes/hair). Thanks!
