Hams in VO1 and VE1 have a monthly Winlink exercise. Thanks for the demo. I’m passing it on to local hame who has only recently got into digital

It's a bit of a hassle to set up, but once it is up and running it works pretty well

Good points and demo. I need to get out and do some HF Winlink soon. I've been doing VHF most of the time.

I have a plan to get HF on VHF to work reliably, but I am not there yet. I don't know if it is the radio, the RMS or something else, but I struggle.

@@LB0FIcan you elaborate on what you mean by get HF on VHF?

I absolutely can. As a middle aged man my mind doesn’t always play well with my fingers, so it is as simple as a typo. It was supposed to be Winlink on VHF.

Thank you for giving this demystification of winlink! I'm excited to try it when I get the right license and equipment.

It's not really that mystical, it's almost like dial up internet :)

    Thank's for the Video Morten!
I am a volunteer with the Austrian Red Cross. We practice this at least once a month with PACTOR. Mostly P2P but also via your own Winlink mailboxes.
If only the modems weren't so expensive ;-) But PACTOR is much more robust against interference than VARA (which we also use).

Happy to see that there are other Red Cross volunteers out there. I have not tried PACTOR, mostly because I haven't been a ham that long, but it is on my list of things to try.

Nice one Morten, I havent tried Winlink yet but it looks cool...
I assume if there were any unread emails in your gmail inbox it would have doneloaded them also over the ham band? Is this how it works for receiving?

      @LB0FI  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It does not download emails from other services. It’s a separate email service, and the format for your address is callsign@winlink.org. You could however forward your regular emails to your winlink email, but since it’s painstakingly slow I wouldn’t recommend it.

Update yourself, most modern preppers do carry a Starlink equipment for this kind of scenario, small, light, easy to use, fast to deploy and get you fast speed satellite internet making live video stream available.
H.F got it place in phone mode, internet ? not anymore.

Most commenters know what they're talking about as well. I can tell that you do not. Nonetheless, thanks for the comment.

@@LB0FI Ok, you are so sure of yourself (BIG MISTAKE). This communication is done of a RV located in the middle of Australia with nothing around for 1000's of Km (beside our roaming Starlink, 3min set up time antenna on the ground), so we can prove you are 100% clueless (prove of concept with 150Mbs).
Unfortunately, you are locked in the hobby that give you a narrow view and as such have no idea what you are taking about.
Thank you for the comment, its priceless.
Hope others read the above and move with the times, Look Starlink up for yourselves.
Ham Radio is great fun, but will you carry H.F and setup an antenna for an Email in a real emergency? the logical answer is no, as there are much better and more particle options.
When it comes to phone H.F is great (we have one in the RV connected to a screwdriver antenna)
