Hi, welcome to ShuoshuoChinese 说说中文; my name is Shuo, I’m a native Chinese teacher living in Bangkok, Thailand, I’ve been teaching Chinese as a foreign language for more than 10 years and I’m also a language learner.
In this channel, I will upload a weekly video, in which I talk about Chinese vocabulary, Chinese grammar, Chinese culture, Chinese stories with pinyin and the English translation for listening practice.
With my channel, you can easily start to learn and understand complicated Chinese grammar, sentence structure, and differences/nuances between similar Chinese words.
If you are a Chinese beginner, I’m planning to upload videos about what Chinese language is, how it differs from English, Chinese pronunciations, Chinese characters and Chinese stroke sequences and a mini Chinese course, (10 minutes per day), which can help you learn quickly and easily. Don’t miss it!
So, subscribe to my channel and start your Chinese learning journey!

I've learned several 成语 in the time I've been studying Chinese. One of the earliest ones I found, by accident, was " 愚公移山." I like the story behind it and to me it is about perseverance. Giving up is easy and reaching meaningful goals takes time. Do not listen to those that tell you you cannot do something. Just do it. Doesn't matter how long it takes.

    我断断续续地学习法语了.这门语言跟我的母语截然不同,但是我不会半途而废. 我决定了通过一个考试.我才恍然大悟,我对这门语言一窍不通. 原来这就是事倍功半😢,然后我决定了学习英语, 因为这个语言是比比皆是的.我希望我会事半功倍

Of all the hundreds (or is it thousands) of Chinese 成语, I think the only one that has made it into English is 好久不见 which we say word-for-word as "long time no see". Maybe this isn't exactly a 成语 but still, it is a four-character compression of the statement 我好久没见到你了 (which compression is not exactly grammatically correct, in neither Chinese nor English, but is commonly used in both languages).

Perhaps there is another 成语 which we say as "no ticky (ticket), no laundry". This actually originated in North America, back when most laundry services were operated by Chinese immigrants. If you went to pick up your laundry, but didn't have your claim ticket, they would say "no ticky, no laundry". (Perhaps they were thinking: 不交票, 不取洗衣服.) We still commonly use this expression when someone who hasn't kept their promise asks you for a favour.
For example, your friend says he'll provide the beer if you help him move. But when you arrive at his place, there is no beer. You can say "no ticky, no laundry", and just turn around and go home. :-)

    People mountain people see (sea?)....
In Taiwan everyone is convinced that Americans use this daily.
I've been in Taiwan for years and I still haven't had anyone explain WTF this even means.
I know it means there's a lot of people.
Is it a mountain of people? Like a pile of dead bodies or what? A sea of people I understand, but it also sounds like people are going to the mountain to see it????
Whenever I ask Chinese people what it means the answer is "ha ha, yes yes" or some useless thing like that.
I really don't understand how to communicate with people here because I never get actual answers to fucking anything.
Edit: ok I google translated it and it's "sea".
So..... it's a sea of people in a mountain? I think it sounds stupid, but I don't get it.
I constantly tell people "oh we'd say it was packed, or 'everyone and his brother was there' or it's a zoo"..
The reply is "oh, people mountain people sea".
I seriously don't know why I bother even trying to communicate with these people. It's literally useless. They have to literally be NPCs. It's the only thing that makes any sense. They're pre-programmed automatons incapable of independent thought.

The Mountain (山) aspect in 人山人海 refers to Height, "I can't see shit, there's too many people in front of me!!" = The Height (mountain) of the People makes it Impossible for me to See(Sea) Anything Clearly. A Mountain (height) of People (Sea of People) = Crowded all around me. This is what I came up with after 10 minutes of research, as a direct result of your comment. Hope this helps!! - Q

    • @anonamatron
      @anonamatron ปีที่แล้ว

@@JS-lm7ry Well, I'm also capable of googling it, but when I'm in the country that says it, and we're presumably practicing English at the time, and they ask me if people in America really say it, it seems like a time where we could discuss it and not need to research it on Google.
