Thank you for explaining the accent crisis so well! I have been recommending this video so often that I just shared it on my community tab. As I often remind people, trust the process, and keep going!
@@AmericanAccentMastery Yes, they definitely do! I've usually been explaining it through the four levels of competence, but the "accent crisis" is more accurate for how they feel!
I can’t wait for the day when you compile all of this info into the New York Times bestseller you’re destined to write 🤭🤭 Your videos are always eye/ear & mind openers in so many ways 😌
You’re welcome Oleg! I’m glad to hear that! Btw I don’t remember if I ever replied to your previous question- I grew up in Canada but I’ve spent my adulthood between Canada and the US:)
Hi Victoria, as always very insightful info. P.S. My 48 hours regiment is well under way. When practicing my pronunciation I find myself using your phrase "brain do" this or that. I think the phrase is so endearing. Please know that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. All the best to you.
I LOVE your graphics! They are good old fashioned hand drawn images, rather than being done by a digital artist with software. Some people nowadays use a whiteboard and dry erase markers. Whiteboard mages used in short videos have a surprising level of charisma, so this method has caught on.. ALso, your drawing of the human brain has a minimalist quality that is quite charming. I do believe that you forgot to show the cerebellum, though. Now, with regard to your video's subject, I want to mention that the Japanese have double-length vowels, in addition to normal-length vowels. I have mucho difficulty distinguishing them from normal-length vowels in everyday speech.
Thanks so much Gregory! I liked drawing as a child but I’ve been wanting to explore it more lately. When I have more time I think I’ll take a drawing class online for fun! :)
For real! I feel like this sometimes when comes to learning new sounds. When I'm practicing my speaking with my friend I always get myself asked "did I say it right?" Omg! That's wrong you're such an idiot. but after getting a lot input how people actually pronounce it I become more confident say it loudly. Thanks for your amazing knowledge!👍🙏🏻
Interesting things are happening in our brains. Probably these processes occur not only while learning pronunciation, but also in other circumstances. Hence the conclusion: do not be discouraged by the first failures. All the best to you!
Thanks Jim! There are lots of channels like this one actually;) You have a great speaking voice- you sound almost like a native speaker but some of your sounds are a little bit different:) I wish you luck with your channel, it looks very interesting!
American Accent Mastery thank you for the feedback. Yeah I want to improve my public speaking definitely. If I can speak better I will not need to edit my videos as much. Thank you!
@@MAKEMONEYMARK8 Personally, I've found it to be the case that public speaking and speaking to a camera are different skills sets- I have no problem with public speaking, but A LOT of trouble with the latter on certain days. As I might have mentioned, I want soooo much to sound like the British. Their speech has such a refined and cultivated sound to it--so genteel! It is the language of the arts and sciences and scholarly pursuits. The American accent sounds so crass by comparison. We care only about success and profits and freedom. Oh well. But...have you seen the Beatles movie "Hard Day's Night"? I could barely understand what they were saying. Sometimes, Paul and John sounded like they were mumbling gibberish.
Hi Gregory! I haven’t seen that movie- though I love movies, I have so little spare time 😅 Regarding the British accent, go for it!! You could make a video about it- I spoke in a British accent for 30 days, and here’s what happened;-)
@@AmericanAccentMastery THis is a movie that I would recommend ONLY if you are a raging Beatles fan. If not, then there definitely are better movies to spend your time on. Here's one: "Aguirre, the Wrath of God". It's by German director Werner Herzog.
Thanks so much! I do, but I have a long waiting list:( If you're not in a hurry, please feel free to send me an email to get more information- americanaccentmastery @ gmail . com Best wishes!!
Thank you for yet another informative video. I can see that after extended training what you hear and process may make you think your own accent is getting worse and not better, I was curious if the same holds true if for example you heard a recording of your "starting" accent then your "current" accent, would the brain interpret it differently if it was lacking the "inner voice" ?
Ohh great question!! I have many clients who are recorded at work and then re-listen to their audio once they have done work on their accent- most are shocked that there were so many things they didn’t notice before!
That's so nice of you to say Charis! I have some projects in the works right now, including a really transformational course! I'll announce it on the channel when it's ready, but feel free to send me an email if you want me to keep you posted (americanaccentmastery@gmail . com) Best wishes!
Well, that's true! But first i need to check to see if i have any brain at all.🤭All the jokes aside, I was experiencing such thing awhile ago, but now i'm getting better and better. I feel i am ready now for the final step to complete my English skills and that is getting married with an English girl.😆
