Ancient -- you have become one of my favorite TH-cam channels. Your commentary and reactions to these meals are priceless because they help bring people from different countries together in a unique and peaceful way. Please consider creating an episode in which you look back at past episodes to create a list of the the best items you've had from various MRE from around the world, creating the "Ultimate MRE". Peace be with you.
Don't worry about the honey. Spanish honey contrary to USA (+90%) honey is not pasteurized (unlike the raw honey from Costco), therefore it isn't liquid shelf stable. It will crystallize but easily remediated once treated with heat, same as maple syrup. The addition of corn syrup will prevent crystallization; this is why honey at McDonald's (or any other individually packaged honey) will never crystallize. Next time, simply dunk the honey pouch in warm/hot water several minutes as to reconstitute it glucose/maltose (melt it). 😂😂😂
In the US. Honey is pure honey under law. McDonald's and KFC sell honey sauce. That is what your talking about. All honey pasteurized or not is shelf stable for decades.
@@tireballastserviceofflorid7771 Everytime i purchase European Honey it crystallizes . American honey NEVER crystallizes. It's fake like American bread.
@@tireballastserviceofflorid7771 never assume pure honey to be raw honey or pasteurized. Pure has no legal ramifications in the USA in the food industry. Raw honey is (and has never been) liquid shelf stable as glucose crystalizes whereas pasteurization transforms its glucose and maltose bonds to render it liquid shelf stable. The life expectancy is not under question, I am simply explaining why the honey in this mre pack has separated and how to remediate it. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
In 2015, archaeologists reported that they'd found 3,000-year-old honey while excavating tombs in Egypt, and it was perfectly edible. This durability is thanks to the unique features of honey: it is low in water and high in sugar, so bacteria cannot grow on, So I think that Honey is still good xD
Dont worry, honey doesn't spoil, but some honeys with a higher fructose content can crystallize over time. Heat would return it to its more liquid form.
@HeathenTrucker Fructose and glucose are the primary components of real honey. The region it comes from can change the flavor due to different plants, since honey comes from bees when they collect pollen. There’s even honey that can get you high. That being said, there is a lot of fake honey.
From what I've seen from other MRE reviewers the Spanish put the heater in the breakfast one and then you have it already for the lunch and dinner. Really enjoy your reviews!
I'm Brazilian and here we drink coffee with milk two ways, the first is, as said in the video, half milk and half coffee and we also have "Pingado" which is coffee with a few drops of milk. Our cuisine is wonderful, I believe you will like it.
The Spanish one is relatively healthy and also has vitamins and a toothbrush in. The French is hearty and loaded with good, strong calories. Good video
Happy Memorial Day Shipmate! Another good video! Ace is right, my wife is from Brazil and for me, half coffee and half cream is perfect, because their coffee is more like expresso and very strong! Keep 'em coming!! Tchau, vr, Shannon
Always glad to see a new video come out. I will be down visiting the youngest next weekend and will hunt around some of the surplus places for MREs. WIll also try to find an old messkit. When younger I had the WW2 knife that I kept in my tackle box. Used it to cut bait and catch and cook. Wish I still had it. Stay safe and God bless. If I find anything different in MREs I will let you know. Could always drop them off as I head west next month. Maybe even a brand new MRE.
Honey cant go bad its one of the few foods you can eat after thousends of years they found honey in egypt as a gift to a pharao grave it was 5000 years old and still good to eat
Enjoy watching your videos. When you are doing a US MRE please do them properly. You don't put the main in the heater pack, you put water in and slide it and the main into the cardboard sleeve. If you put water into the hot beverage bag it can be heated up with the heater also. Water in heater doesn't need to touch any of the pouches.
I believe the Spanish have espresso in the afternoon. It's a Mediterranean thing. But cafe con leche (Americano) is common in Puerto Rico an ex colony of Spain. I imagine on the island during the second Spanish American war you could tell a person's allegiance based on how they took their coffee.
This honey-milk powder+sugar combo is from newer spanish breakfast MREs and doesn't seem to be working well. Older ones had just 3 generous sweetened condensed milk satchets instead. You just added it to the water and mixed with the cocoa (or coffee, or cereals) and you were done. You could even use it as a spread with the biscuits. No extra sugar or creamer needed. Breakfast in Spain is usually meant to be consumed fast and give you a boost of energy. There are savory alternatives (like the popular toast with tomato spread and olive oil) but most people will go the sweet way and have just some coffee w/milk and a sweet treat. Dipping biscuits or a toast in the coffee is common. This is specially popular among young people, so I suppose army wants soldiers to get up and running fast with this menu.
Very cool friend. I know, customs cut us no slack anymore, Damn. Especially hurting A French ration, one of my favorites. Spanish Breakfasts, are light weight, but good. Tastes and textures, like the honey, the jams and the hazelnut paste, and the cocoa, they taste differently because any product based in the EU does not have the same pasteurization methods of the US, or added stuff like starch and similar, lower levels of salt, sugar, and around here we just add the salt or the sugar we want in food in our kitchens, the food is bland for someone used to eating in the US except when it is specifically mentioned in the food. American friends have mentioned to me that even McDonalds or other fast food "tastes differently", bread, eggs and milk are different, our milk goes sour after a couple of days, quicker if not refrigerated, all because there is a minimal of preservatives and chemicals, sugar and salt in food stuffs, but you can still add whatever sugar and salt you want, in your plate. My brother that was in the army for some time, liked to sweet his cocoa or coffee with honey, and that looks like good honey. "Tostada" is a staple cookie in Portugal and Spain, its a cookie cooked and "double toasted" to last longer and be crunchy, and the sweet kind is more common, with the equivalent to a cracker in the salted or savoury variety of cookies to eat with spreads. Those issues, like the maximum salt and sugar permitted in food, varies according to the country, but it has a maximum level all over the EU, in limits considered safe by the health authorities EU wide. Good video, and loved the vintage cutlery
I think the milk powder is just ment as a milk drink you add water too well that's what we do in England 🏴 but it was fun to watch you mix both 😂 I would next time just add hot water to the coco drink and cold water to the milk powder. Great videos as always though 👌🏻
When you have honey, like that get crystallize all you gotta do is heat it up a little bit like you should’ve took that envelope and threw it in hot water
The honey is good. If honey is crystallized, that means is natural, not added anything artificial. Only natural honey would be like that. If honey is liquidy and runny after many months or even couple of months, that means it's artificial.
Was wondering about the pork thing. Love ramen and been wanting to import some of the higher end stuff from Japan but they come with pork meat in them. And apparently they're not allowed to ship them to the US 🫠
My apologies this comment is not relevant to this video, but I know of no other way to mention a small story, that may tickle you: My father, 1939 - '46 RAF Combat Aircrew (AG/Sigs) was once in a forced landing in Near East Jungle (around N. India/Pakistan way to our modern ears) They were ignorant, and terrified that man eating jungle bunnies were attacking them, cocking guns etc. Turns out it was a US pioneer Squad (all black, stripped to the waist, of course, working in a jungle!) He said the best pineapple he ever, ever, tasted: was served to him in a Yankee tin hat, by a gentleman of colour, with an American accent LOL 🤣
Hi me ancient, I’m new to the channel, how do you come across those foreign MREs? I wouldn’t mind trying them!!👍🏿💯❤️. When I was in the NAVY I came across some really old MRE that was on a moth balled ship from WW2!!
Funny how even kinder eggs are banned in the US because they claim kids can choke on the plastic eggs inside the chocolate . I always got them as a kid for Christmas since I was 5 , guess in Europe parents tell the kids there’s a toy inside so don’t try to eat it in one piece
You can use the fuel tablets with the stove indoors. I've been doing it for several months now an I'm still alive. If you read the instructions, it says it is fine to use indoors as long as the area is well ventilated. I put the stove under my range hood that vents outside. Just opening a window would be adequate for those things. You don't want to use them inside a tank with all the hatches closed, or deep in a cave. There are people that are afraid to start up a flameless ration heater indoors. Yeah they stink, but it's not that bad at all. Smells like electronics running. Funny because that's exactly what it is, hydrogen gas. It would take about 10 of those things going off at the same time inside a coffin to actually kill you. There is fear, which is fine. Then there is ignorance and misinformation, which is A LOT worse.
