  • This is GoPro first person footage of the largest WWI reenactment in the US. This event takes place every year in Newville PA. This event is private to reenactors only. You must become a GWA member and join a unit to participate in this event. This was recorded by a GoPro hidden in a gas mask bag positioned on my chest.

      They do WWII and Vietnam events here also. And no, you must join a registered unit with the Great War Association to get on the property and participate in any event on the property. Most reenactments are public displays usually open to all public but this one is not.

      Sometimes its obvious and other times its tricky to tell. We try to thing like if se think we might have been, then we were.

    To slow getting through the wire, ( combat engineers)

      Wire cutters they gave soldiers in WWI were tricky to use and were very small. Not very easy to do it super fast.

      @@sgt_sallyHistorically, they didn't have enough time to cut the wire, there are many reports where the soldiers jumped upon the wire so the others could cross it, and of course men also were killed and fell upon it and were used as a bridge too.

    • @sgt_sally
      @sgt_sally  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@muffinmaxxed5303 right but they gave soldiers wire cutters for a reason so if they had a chance they probably would. We are at a reenactment and have to pay for all of our equipment and uniforms. Meaning I’m not jumping on wire.. at the end of the event I still have to go back home and go to work.

      @@sgt_sally I do reenactment as well, not ww1, or ww2. Civil War and medieval is my area. And yes you are correct that they gave them to soldiers, however from what source material I can find about them being used extensively is inconsistent on where and when, and how they were used. From what I have gathered, by 1915 the brass just hoped the artillery barrage would destroy the wire. Though this was very rarely the case, due to the fact of accounts and testimonials from the survivors of the war saying that they just threw themselves upon the wire. I have also found that some soldiers would wear a chest plate with a neck guard to stop from getting cut up. How well they worked is anyone's guess.
      Found something that surprised me as well, the knobs on the side of the Germans m16 stallheilm are for a thick metal plate to lock in place in the front of the helmet to stop bullets. Didn't know that's what the knobs were for.

      @@muffinmaxxed5303 well like i said before. Just like we do for WWII D-Day, there is just some things we are not going to reenact. Jumping on barbed wire for the sake of “accuracy” and jeopardizing people’s ability to return home safely is one we wont do. Diving over the side of the Higgins boats and “dying” in the water is another we wont do and are not aloud to do per coast guard regulations. We try to get things as close as possible within reason and none of that stuff is within reason because again its a reenactment at the end of the day.

    So it would be nice if the camera was facing a little more upwards instead of nice view of the food and shoot some rounds bro everyone else sounds like their letting em off
    Beautiful uniforms though

      Tricky to have a perfect camera a angle while trying to hide it on a gas mask bag on my chest and crouch running through no mans land.

      WWI and WWII work differently. For WWI, click the first link in my bio (the great war association) and find a unit of your choosing. Contact them and join their group and they will answer your questions from there.
