@@aviationignited unfortunately my teacher sucks, and we're actually talking more about the people than the battles. We do talk about the battles but only, if an important person, for example a known General, dies there or if it is changing the war.
@Aviation Ignited As a German, I can tell my history classes about things like WW I, WW II and also the cold war seemed very biased to me. The teachers basically denounce everything related to germany in both world wars as well as the eastern bloc during the cold war. They might throw a few neutral-sounding sentences every lesson so that it‘s not too obvious but all these events are essentially portrayed as clearly black and white / good and bad if you get what I mean. Any educated person is supposed to know that in life things are *never* completely good or bad but always somewhere in between yet you won‘t find any even slightly positive information about the german empire, nazi germany or the eastern bloc every coming out of the teachers mouths, and sadly that also goes for most students. You also won‘t get to hear anything negative about the US, Britian and France respectively even if it is of totally factual nature. The worst thing about this might be that teachers will sometimes even go as far as telling straight up wrong things to the students so that it fits the narrative. A while back when we were taught about the german invasion of france in WW II, the success of the nazis was portrayed as nothing but luck and the teacher stated certain military actions’ reasons (e.g. the cut off of the allied forces near dunkirk) were unknown to date. I late found out about many sources that prove that germany was, obviously, fighting with strategic planning and not just luck. I simply don‘t get why you have to make up thing like these when there are already so many facts that tell how bad the nazis were. Are they that afraid somebody might change their mind when the teachers admit the success of the nazis during the start of WW II despite all the horrible oppression, genocide etc. still being a thing?
I also want to add that the common bias concerning what they focus on when teaching WW II is of course also present. That means we don‘t get to hear anything about how horrible the Japanese were during the war and even before that and we only get to hear about all the bad things our anchestors did instead.
@@aviationignited Especially the Nazi time is taught a lot in school. Generally the focus is more towards the society and politics and not so much about the events of the actual wars (you still learn the most important ones but it's not the main focus). I'll go through my school stuff and list what was taught in school: The German Empire (1871-1918): The way the German Empire was formed is taught a lot especially Bismarck played a big role in the lessons. We learned about the society, the political system and the way into WW1. WW1 was taught a bit to short for my taste but the most important events were taught. The imperial time was viewed criticly but in an appropriate way. Weimar Republic (1918-1933): We learned about the end of WW1 and the „creation“ of the republic. Especially the reasons for the fall of the Weimarer Republic were taught a lot. We are currently doing the nazi regime. We allready learned about facism in italy. We were taught the reasons which led to the dictatorship and how the nazi government was structured. We will learn about the holocaust and WW2 later this year. Also it's important to mention that when you're doing the Abitur (the degree you need to go to university) you will do everything from the German Empire till the reunification twice. Once in „middle school“ (we do not have that in Germany) and once in high school in a more detailed way. Generally the nazi time and the holocaust is taught a lot whilst the colonial time and WW1 should be taught a bit more in my opinion. Often schools will even take students to a former concentration camp. Of course the lessons can depend on which teacher you have. I think most german schools are doing a good teaching their history. I'm sorry this comment got so long but I hope its helpful. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

@R B J Nazism was and is a specific ideology and political party, not just 'anything German within X amount of years'. What, you think everyone who was a nationalist was a Nazi, or even *more* stupid and provably wrong, that everyone who fought on the German side during the World Wars was (even taking THE most generous interpretation, bare in mind that during WW2 the SS had foreign legions, even from India, who, yes, actually saw combat, and yes, were volunteers)? Furthermore, the Nazi party didn't even exist until after Germany got royally screwed by England and France in a war their side didn't even instigate, so much so that they'd have to wheelbarrow money to and fro. People get desperate and hang on to any vague hope they can for a way out, when it seems the entire world has abandoned them. World War Two as we know it and the rise of the National Socialist Party would outright not have happened if it weren't for Versailles. *A* second World War might have, and almost certainly would have, but I severely doubt it would've been anywhere close to how it happened in the real world. Furthermore, do *you* have any idea how insensitive it is to condemn anyone who fought and/or in a war where the party of your supposed grievance literally did not exist during (and again, may I remind you, were not even the AGGRESSORS during WWI) as not worthy of respect, because someone later on used them as a political piece to gain power? Have you ever heard anyone say, 'Hitler drank water, so anyone who drinks water must be evil'? That's you, right now.

May I ask what they teach you guys in school about WWI and WWII? I’m curious to know what gets taught in Germany
I'll go through my school stuff and list what was taught in school:
The German Empire (1871-1918):
The way the German Empire was formed is taught a lot especially Bismarck played a big role in the lessons. We learned about the society, the political system and the way into WW1. WW1 was taught a bit to short for my taste but the most important events were taught. The imperial time was viewed criticly but in an appropriate way.
Weimar Republic (1918-1933):
We learned about the end of WW1 and the „creation“ of the republic.

Shotgun sneezes24s I’m gonna be honest most people can’t tell the difference between the uniforms because they are so similar and ww1 doesn’t really come up in a persons normal life so often that they gotta research
@R B J Imagine calling people kids for possibly offending historically illiterate manchildren.
Nazis were German soldiers but not all German soldiers were Nazis.
Fun fact: Prussian culture is very much present in Chile, both in the armed forces and among the population. In fact, Chile has one of the largest German communities in all of Latin America and even has a dialect of German spoken by many people, including the very long-standing German language. It is also worth mentioning that several activities or things related to Chilean-German culture are organized in Chile.
