I am shocked to see so many nude paintings on the walls and ceilings of a Church no matter what religion it is, no wonder the priests had trouble with homosexuality. To think children would look up at those paintings and have a smirk to themselves and wonder for years why paint men's bottoms for all to see, even writing those words is so awful. Jesus would have been horrified.

Peter upon you I will build my Church

    • @ckvon9644

Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Matthew 16:22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.
16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
      Ephesians 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
I Peter 2:4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
2:6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
2:7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
2:8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

The pope came to this conclusion of St Peter’s tomb by this:
    1) There was an inscription at the tomb that said “Peter lies here”
    2) On examining the bones, it was determined to be of a male of approximately 62 years old. His age at the time of his execution.
    3) There were purple fibers in the tomb which, by tradition, it is said that he was buried in.
These are the reasons for declaring these relics to be of St Peter. Whether you have faith that this is true or not depends on each individual. Free will that we all have.

The tomb of St Peter lies beneath the alter of the Clementine Chapel, which is the original chapel of the basilica. It is considered the most sacred part of the entire Vatican. If I am not mistaking only the pope himself can give mass in this chapel, unlike the high alter of the main basilica in which a cardinal representing the pope can celebrate the mass.

    • @joefranks4235
      @joefranks4235 ปีที่แล้ว

The only time someone other than the Pope was allowed to say mass on the Papal altar in St. John Lateran was during the 2nd Vatican Council when president Kennedy was killed. A formal document was written and signed by the pope at that time giving permission for American Cardinals to say mass on it.

When I visited the Vatican in 2009, I was only able to tour the crypts where the most recent Popes - 19th thru 201st Century - are buried. I would love to able to visit the other crypts, especially Saint Peter's tomb! In fact, I would be extremely honored and humbled to visit the final resting place of the rock on which the Catholic Church was built.
Some people find it strange, but one of my hobbies is to visit and explore cemeteries.

It was from this post that I asked: "So who said that we are supposed to believe only what were in the Bible?" But your answer was not that straightforward: "The Bible, God, and Jesus. I've never seen or heard of a Catholic use a different Holy Book."
      ■ Yes, Catholics using the Bible is a fact. In fact, the Holy Mass is about 70% scriptural, while her official liturgical prayer, the "Liturgy of the Hours" is about 85% lifted from the Bible.
      ■ But believing only what is in the Bible or using the Bible as the only basis and authority of faith was NEVER a Catholic practice from day-1 of the Church.
So back to may question: WHO SAID that we are supposed to believe only what were stated in the Bible?

From a tourist perspective, not religious, the Vatican is amazing. I feel bad that the world is so populated that people who want to go there find it incredibly hard. In Revelation, even John the apostle wondered after the beast. The angel rebuked him.
17:3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
17:4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
17:5 And upon her forehead [was] a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
17:6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
17:7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
17:8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

Peter's ossuary is in Israel with his bones in it. The Roman Catholic Church teaches that Peter was the first Pope of Rome, but the weight of Biblical evidence supports the conclusion that he basically never left the area of Palestine during his lifetime! Note the following points
    1) When Paul went up to Jerusalem to confer with the elders in ad 40, Peter was in Palestine. (Galatians 1:18)
    2) Peter preached throughout Palestine during his ministry. (Acts 9:32. Acts 10:21)
    3) Herod Agrippa I died in AD 45. He imprisoned Peter in Jerusalem just prior to this time. (Acts 12:18-19)
    4) When Paul returned to Jerusalem 14 years later in AD 54, Peter was a pillar in the church there. (Galatians 2:19)
Peter’s ministry was confined to the Jews. Most of which lived in Palestine. (Galatians 2:7-8)
Paul withstood Peter to the face shortly after this in Antioch of Syria, adjacent to Palestine. (Galatians 2:11-14)
    Palestine. (Galatians 2:11-14)
Paul wrote to the Romans in Ad 56, saluting 27 people personally. If Peter is in Rome, why isn’t he mentioned? Furthermore, if Peter was in Rome at this time as the first Pope, why did Paul even have to write to strengthen the church? (Romans 16:1-16)
In Paul’s epistles written from Rome (Ephesians, Philippians. Colossians. 2 Timothy) during his imprisonment of Ad 60 to Ad 67, Peter is never mentioned as being- or having been- in the city of Rome. Specifically Paul says, "Only Luke is with me" in 2 Timothy 4:11. If peter is the Pope of Rome at this time where is he?
The Jews were banished from Rome during the reign of Claudius Caesar (Acts 18:2). Peter wasn’t allowed in the city!

I have visited the tombs below St. Peter's. This is a very poor photo of the tomb of St. Peter. If you are going to Rome, apply online some months in advance to the Vatican's office and you can book a tour of 10-12 persons and be guided through the tombs by an archaeologist. There is a lot to see and learn about this originally pagan cemetery. You won't get very close to St. Peter's grave, but still it is the best catacombs anywhere in the world. Alternatively, if you are claustrophobic, don't go, but the Vatican website has a video to take you on a virtual tour of the necropolis -- that is much better than this clip..

Peter was buried there in the first century after he was martyred in the stadium that once stood where the Vatican stands today. His remains were found directly under the high altar in the 1960's, most likely placed there by St. Constantine in the 3rd century, who had the original St. Peter's Basilica built, which stood on the site of the modern Basilica we see today. You can still tour the 1st century roman cemetery Peter was buried in, and the ruins of Constantine's original basilica, which were both re-discovered in an archaeological dig in the 1960's. During that dig they found St. Peter's bones, and they were confirmed to be his by radio-carbon dating.

Who said I can’t pray to Mary or the saints
Why are you praying to your pastor ? If you are going to tell me that you don’t pray to your pastor but just ask him to pray to God on your behalf then you have the answer to your own question
Now explain to me how you know that Mary is dead not resurrected or what ever ? I believe you are saying she is in the grave. Who told told you that? Any proofs
What happens to the soul when some one dies? Do the soul die? When some one dies the soul leaves the flesh. So for a Christian the death on this planet is just the end of his pilgrimage.
Now if you don’t believe that Explain to me how Saul spoke to Samuel through the medium. Didn’t your pasta teach you about that? You need to read your Bible
Did anyone say that Jesus isn’t the Only way and their exist another? Jesus is the only way for every human why he is the Yahova Yoshiya - The salvation of God.He is the pascal lamb. He paid for our iniquities and every one is saved through his blood. Does that mean you can’t ask your pasta for prayers? Does that mean I can’t ask the mother of my Lord for prayers to her son ?
Why do you think of yourselves righteous than others and that you know better than others ? Who knows better 1. You 2. Your Pastor 3. Martin Luther the Jew hating heretic 4. Early Church fathers . 5 The pope 6. A hereditary priest in the order of Adai-Mari ? Have you heard of Adai-Mari?
Have you heard of the epistle of St James? Don’t ask the pastor cause he never heard of it.
Get a Bible (not the cherry Bible but a Catholic/Orthodox or Ethiopian Bible ). Start reading. Pray to the Holy Spirit (not the Kundalini spirit in your church shows). Good luck.
Recommended Reading - Read the Church history & Writings Of early Church fathers
Recommended Reading- Learn about Catholic ( Roman Catholic, Orthodox and other Apostolic ) Churches, Apostolic succession & the laying of hands (Acts Of The Apostles )

If you were put on the spot and hundreds of eyes and ears were on you and you were asked to give THE reason why you know the Bible is true-what would you say? That question is best answered by remembering what Jesus said in the same situation.
At that huge gathering, called the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus confidently told all the thousands who heard Him speak-that Heaven and Earth would pass away before any word of His Bible failed. Wow, He sure knew He had a Bible He could trust. Jesus didn't fear that there were any historical, moral, theological, and scientific inaccuracies in His Bible. He had a copy of the Book anyone can Trust!
But as we read Matthew 5:17-19, Jesus summed it up as simply this, HE believed God's Word and so should we:
"Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."
Have you ever looked down and wondered if you really held the same Bible Jesus had, the one God breathed out supernaturally by inspiration? And further, have you ever wondered if this one is okay, because it is a translation, and not the actual Hebrew or Greek words that God gave to those 40 plus men, who He used to write the Bible?
This is the Bible Jesus Used...
[THE SEPTUAGINT] was the first translation of the Hebrew Bible; and was made in the third century B.C. by Jewish scribes, who were direct descendents of those trained in Ezra's Great Synagogue of Jerusalem. They were complete experts in the text, being very well versed in Hebrew and Greek.
This translation became very popular among Jews in the first two centuries before Christ because many Jews in those days did not understand Hebrew. Their ancestors had left Israel centuries before, and generation after generation gradually lost the ability to read the Scriptures in Hebrew.
Many of the Jews in Jesus' day used the Septuagint as their Bible. Quite naturally, the early Christians also used the Septuagint in their meetings and for personal reading; and many of the New Testament apostles quoted it when they wrote the Gospels and Epistles in Greek. What is most fascinating is that the order of the books in the Septuagint is the same order in our Bibles today, and not like the Hebrew scrolls. So this means that:
      Jesus Primarily Used a Translation...
Jesus and the Apostles: studied, memorized, used, quoted, and read most often from the Bible of their day, the Septuagint. Since Matthew wrote primarily to convince the Jews that Jesus of Nazareth was indeed their promised Messiah, it follows as a matter of course that his Gospel is saturated with the Hebrew Scriptures. Yet, when Jesus quotes the Old Testament in Matthew, He uses the Hebrew text only 10% of the time, but the Greek LXX translation-90% of the time!
Amazingly, Jesus and Paul used the LXX as their primary Bible. It was just like the Bible each of us holds in our hands, not the original Hebrew Old Testament, but a translation of the Hebrew into Greek. But it was based on exactly the same original and inspired words, and reads just like the Bible we hold in our hands today. "
(Well, except for the one on protestants' hands.)
So please, kim burley, read more about the "Septuagint".

Images and Statues, Relics & Holy Water
    I. Images and Statues
Deut. 4:15 - from this verse, Protestants say that since we saw “no form” of the Lord, we should not make graven images of Him.
Deut. 4:16 - of course, in early history Israel was forbidden to make images of God because God didn’t yet reveal himself visibly “in the form of any figure.”
Deut. 4:17-19 - hence, had the Israelites depicted God not yet revealed, they might be tempted to worship Him in the form of a beast, bird, reptile or fish, which was a common error of the times.
Exodus 3:2-3; Dan 7:9; Matt. 3:16; Mark 1:10; Luke 3:22; John 1:32; Acts 2:3- later on, however, we see that God did reveal himself in visible form (as a dove, fire, etc).
Deut. 5:8 - God’s commandment “thou shall not make a graven image” is entirely connected to the worship of false gods. God does not prohibit images to be used in worship, but He prohibits the images themselves to be worshiped.
Exodus 25:18-22; 26:1,31 - for example, God commands the making of the image of a golden cherubim. This heavenly image, of course, is not worshiped by the Israelites. Instead, the image disposes their minds to the supernatural and draws them to God.
Num. 21:8-9 - God also commands the making of the bronze serpent. The image of the bronze serpent is not an idol to be worshiped, but an article that lifts the mind to the supernatural.
I Kings 6:23-36; 7:27-39; 8:6-67 - Solomon’s temple contains statues of cherubim and images of cherubim, oxen and lions. God did not condemn these images that were used in worship.
2 Kings 18:4 - it was only when the people began to worship the statue did they incur God’s wrath, and the king destroyed it. The command prohibiting the use of graven images deals exclusively with the false worship of those images.
1 Chron. 28:18-19 - David gives Solomon the plan for the altar made of refined gold with a golden cherubim images. These images were used in the Jews’ most solemn place of worship.
2 Chron. 3:7-14 - the house was lined with gold with elaborate cherubim carved in wood and overlaid with gold.
Ezek. 41:15 - Ezekiel describes graven images in the temple consisting of carved likenesses of cherubim. These are similar to the images of the angels and saints in many Catholic churches.
Col. 1:15 - the only image of God that Catholics worship is Jesus Christ, who is the “image” (Greek “eikon”) of the invisible God.
    II. Relics
Mark 15:43; John 19:38 - Joseph of Arimathea sought Christ’s dead body instead of leaving it with the Romans. Joseph gave veneration to our Lord’s body.
Mark 16:1; Luke 24:1 - the women came to further anoint Christ’s body even though it had been sealed in the tomb.
John 19:39 - Nicodemus donated over one hundred pounds of spices to wrap in Jesus’ grave clothes. This is also veneration of our Lord’s body.
Matt. 9:21; Mark 5:28 - the woman with the hemorrhage just sought the hem of Christ’s cloak and was cured. This shows that God uses physical things to effect the supernatural.
Acts 19:11-12 - Paul’s handkerchiefs healed the sick and those with unclean spirits. This is another example of physical things effecting physical and spiritual cures.
Acts 5:15 - Peter’s shadow healed the sick. This proves that relics of the saints have supernatural healing power, and this belief has been a part of Catholic tradition for 2,000 years.
Rev. 6:9 - the souls of the martyrs are seen beneath the heavenly altar. Their bones are often placed beneath altars in Catholic churches around the world.
2 Kings 13:21 - Elisha’s bones bring a man back to life. The saints’ bones are often kept beneath the altars of Catholic churches and have brought about supernatural cures throughout the Christian age.
Rom. 13:7; Phil. 2:25-29; Heb. 3:3; 1 Pet. 2:7 - we are taught to honor the people of God and in 1 Cor. 4:16-17; 1 Cor. 11:1-2; Phil. 3:17; 1 Thess. 1:6; 2 Thess. 3:7; Heb. 6:12; Heb. 13:7; James 5:10-11 - we are reminded to imitate them. Keeping relics of the saints serves both to honor and imitate their heroic faith in Christ (just as keeping articles of deceased loved ones helps us honor and imitate them).
    III. Holy Water
Ex. 29:4; Lev. 8:6 - Aaron and his sons were washed in holy water in their consecration to the priesthood. Thus, we see the use of holy water during the beginning of salvation history.
Ex. 30:18-19 - the Lord requires Aaron and his sons to wash their hands and feet in holy water before they offered sacrifices to Him. The Church uses holy water for various purposes, and holy water fonts are generally located at the entrance of Catholic churches to be used before the sacrifice of Christ is offered to the Father.
Num. 5:17 - here again, the priest uses holy water. God uses natural matter to convey the supernatural, just as God who is Spirit became flesh in Christ Jesus.
Num. 8:7 - the Lord says to “sprinkle them with the water of remission.” The Lord uses water, a physical property, to convey His supernatural property of grace.
1 Kings 7:38-39 - in King Solomon’s temple, there were ten large basins of holy water. Holy water has always been used in the context of worship.
John 9:6-7 - Jesus uses clay and spittle to heal the blind man’s eyes, and ordered him to wash in the pool of Siloam to effect the cure. Jesus did not need to use spittle, clay and water, but He does to demonstrate that God uses the material things He created to give graces and heal us.
John 13:4-10 - the Lord uses water to wash the apostles’ feet to prepare them for their sacramental priesthood.
John 19:34 - water and blood flowed from Jesus’ pierced side on the Cross. The Church uses holy water as a symbol of our Lord’s life giving water that flowed from His sacred Heart, and as the property which brings about the power of Jesus Christ Himself, in baptism, the Eucharist, and other sacred rites of the Church.

I am not saying that Peter did not go to Rome, just that there is NO proof that he went to Rome. As for the tale of Peter being crucified upside down that is possible but it comes from a work that is so against what Jesus taught that only a fool would believe anything from the whole text not just the portion quoting the tale that Peter wanted to be crucified upside down after meeting Jesus and Jesus saying something like about having to be crucified again when we are told in scripture that Jesus was crucified ONCE for mankind.
