How to Use Signal Private Messenger App

- Signal Private Messenger is a messaging platform that can be used on iPhones, iPads, Android phones, and Mac or PC.
Signal began to surge in 2021 as one of the most secure and private messaging apps.
You can send one on one text messages, group messages, voice notes, images, and videos.
You can also video chat within the signal apps. Group calls support up to 5 people at the time of this writing but may expand in the future.
Signal uses end-to-end encryption is it is very secure for messaging.
It's also a free and open-source platform.
You do need a phone number to sign up for the signal since it uses SMS to verify your account.
In this video, I'll show you how to send text messages, pictures, record and send videos with Signal, how to send disappearing messages, and how to interact with messages.
I'll also cover video calls and voice calls within the app.

Personally I like to use Facebook to keep in contact with a collective group of people like family and old friends, and to be able to search for other people later on, but I do not use it for my primary communication, I use telegram for that! To my point is I don't I don't think Facebook should be shut down it's a great tool and resource for getting and maintaining contacts and friendships and then moving them later to your app of choice.

@@wellnormally9404 not really. Signal was born around 2010 with the name of TextSecure and then changed name in Signal between 2013 and 2015 (can't remember right now). Happily using it since 2017.

I just deleted my Facebook, Twitter, and slowly but surely deleting my Google account so a privacy app like Signal available across various operating systems sounds refreshing.

Signal is sooo good looking good on IOS very minimalist and clean. No stories no status. Love it.
Wasn't the whole point of the signal messenger is that its private and good unlike some others like whatsapp. Doesn't it sort of defeat the purpose of that privacy when your using ios?

This is the main messenger I use with my family and I love it. No privacy issues whatsoever and the ability to delete messages just for me so people can't see it on my phone but the recipient still has them is just so good
Why is that good the point of deleting messeges is to erase the history of it for both users

I appreciate your tutorials. I have used them several times. I really appreciate this one about Signal. Question, I have an iPhone SE and I use the default message app. I do a lot of texting between family, friends, doctors, etc. If I download Signal will incoming texts know to go to the Signal app or do I also have to keep the iPhone message app? This is probably a very naïve question! Thx

One issue with Signal (for Android) is that you can't send anything to multiple contacts without having to form a group. I understand this feature is however available on the iOS version. Hope they add it to Android soon.

I believe that has something to do with the way it uses encryption
I love signal very nice app, it just needs some polishing (interface like applying a wallpaper to a chat those little things) and there's some little bugs in it and just more customization options and the app would be perfect
wallpapers chat will come soon, Signal twitted about that a few days ago with other improvements. I've seen a loot of improvements since July 2017.. Jesus, at the beginning I remember I couldn't hear random audio files, they were randomly stopping. Or there wasn't a way to watch a picture and switching to the previous/next one by swiping left/right, you had to exit and search it in the chat. It was very difficult to use but I never uninstalled it, I patiently waited for the bugs to be fixed and I was happy :)

You should switch or else what's app will have access to all your private information specially bank account details to mention a few..

Are the videos and pictures you take in the "new message" screen encrypted? Or would others have access to it if your system is compromised (does it store the photo on the phone, or delete it after it encrypts + sends?)
What I have always loved about signal is I can set time limits on messages and they disappear off the other person's phone 😜

Doesn't the end to end encryption only work if both people texting are on Signal? Plus why would you want to use this over iMessage?

Why is there no icon on my iphone for the Signal app? I go to apple app store, it says "open", no download (I believe i have downloaded it in the past). It does open and I'm on it, but the only way to get to the app is thru the app store?

I already switched but I dont like how the Group Messages I send out have all the replies intersect with others in the group rather than replying to just the sender, Is there a way to fix that to where it works like the whats app broadcast feature?

I really like the app so far, however I don’t like the option to use personal backgrounds in the chat ... minor issue but conversation looks 💀 without this preference...
Can I check if I uninstall the application from my iPhone, when reinstalling back, will I lose the messages? Also, once reinstalled, will I be able to receive the messages that were sent to me in the period whereby the app is uninstalled? Then when I reinstall, the messages will be there?

Two things still wondering:
1 the disappearing text vanishes even though it hasn't been read? Makes no sense to me...
2 does signal offer a status option like WhatsApp?

Hi AppOftheDay and chat, thanks for this video, but I'm confused (iOS user, have Snapchat, too). When I see this part of the video, 2:11, it sees to say I need the other person's phone number (or allow Signal to get it from my contacts) just to establish contact with them the first time. This is not true for Snapchat where our mutual phone numbers are hidden. *I'd actually need to have the person's phone number to establish Signal contact?* We can seee one another's phone numbers as we then use the app? I am not asking to challenge Signal's security of my phone number, rather I am asking because sometimes we meet people casually (members of my huge running and hiking clubs, a person one meets on a vacation, etc) and do not want to share a phone number even once since a phone number allows a person to know everything about you (address, DOB, family members, etc). Hay got a question maybe youse guys can answer I have just received a work phone I don’t want to carry around two phone but I know the owner of the plan can go to the provider here in Australia and get a download of my last three months of activity messages pics and videos and all websites visited. The question is if I use signal on my work phone because you register with your mobile number will my work be able to gain access to my conversations some how or will they need the phone itself?

Hello, my app doesn’t make a sound when someone calls me. It has all the permits and my phone is not on silent. How can I fix this? I can hear a sound when I get a message but not when I get a call. Very disappointing 😞
From the past i do remember that integrated app called Trillian that captured the messengers Skype, MSN, Yahoomess. ICQ and i think googlebuzz aswell the contacts and phonelist. Now it looks like Signal has the exact same purpose like Trillian had. My favo messenger was... ICQ on desktop, but since it was hacked in the Nineties it died. Anyway thx for explaning.

Hi guys quick question how do you delete a voice messages in Signal? It's easy to do in WhatsApp but I'm finding it impossible in signal. By deleting messages go to the upper right hand 3 dots tap on disappearing messages

Having a problem getting to a video talk. Like making a phone call and be able to see each another.
Notifications not coming through while connected to wifi and the screen is off. As soon as I disconnect from wifi, I get the notifications. This is only happening with Samsung phones, my iphones do not have this issue.
Where does it do the message backup ? Can it be backup'd to google drive ?

I use the app on my computer. Its better to type that way. Thing is I can not for the life of me work out how to get contacts to show on my computer. I have tried the add contacts from the dialogue box but still nothing. I only see those I am already in contact with. I can not look at my contacts and attempt to entice them away for Whatscrap.

You seem like you know a lot about apps. Can you tell me if in telegram you can send a group message that will be received individually while hiding names/numbers/emails etc.? I would also be interested in knowing if you can schedule a group message to be sent in the future.
Or is there a messaging app I can use as a group leader that will send text messages directly to people's text messaging systems they already have in place?
