My best ever Quad Cortex sound versus my handwired amp - which sounds best?

- Last week's video I showed the best guitar sound I've ever got from my Quad Cortex. The footage was from a rehearsal, in this week's video the footage is from the gig that followed where I used my handwired Carr Viceroy amp.
Exceptional playing again as usual Tom, I loved the tones on your Les Paul and Strat and for me I liked both the Quad Cortex and the Carr amp sound, you also sounded good when I saw you live at those gigs 😊
Thanks Glenn…..hope you liked seeing yourself in the video too with the very cool new haircut!!
I liked both the QC and your live amp. Agreed that direct/digital is becoming more and more prevalent - but I think it's best to "use the right tool for the job", be that an amp or a modeler.
Yes I agree….don’t think I’ll ever get rid of my amps!
I preferred the QC too. I went to see Matteo Mancuso in Drift Lab this week. Interestingly he was exclusively using a Helix! A totally silent stage apart from the drums. Digital is definitely becoming more and more the choice of even the highest calibre of players. Travelling light has many advantages it would seem. I love my QC too!
There are definitely advantages, in some situations it’s much better. I still like an amp though!!
@@iamtjwalker Yep, love my Cornford Carrera. When I was touring and playing big stages, back in the day, I went straight into a Mesa Boogie Trem-o-Verb 2x12 Dual Rectifier, no pedals at all apart from a Tuner. It weighed well over 110lbs in its flight case. Impossible for one person to lift! Love my QC these days with a couple of Atomic CLRs FRFRs, but also regularly just go into the PA and use IEMs.
nice music
Thanks
Brilliant QC presets .. Can you share on the QC app??
He tells you how to get it in the video. About 3/4 of the way.
@@tonepilot Ty!
It’s called Trio Rehearse on my TJ Walker profile.
@@iamtjwalker Ty!! Great work
@@iamtjwalker Thank you!
Quad Cortex for sure.
Definitely the recorded sound is better…..but there are lots of other factors at play…..still really pleased with how the QC sounded!!
@@iamtjwalker Indeed. Amp in the room is hard to duplicate and having glowing tubes is just so satisfying.
I enjoy your playing. Unfortunately for me I prefer the amp. Why? Acquired hearing over 40 Years and hearing being sensitive to transients only a tube power section makes, especially in a club setting with that music. If you don’t have that issue by all means use good modellers. With both amps and modellers you can easily get bad sounds 😊.
I agree with the amp….although once I started using in-ears that difference got less significant ….and particularly with the models it’s getting much closer to the real thing.
@@iamtjwalkerAgreed. I never used InEars. If it became necessary then I would use Modellers.
The QC sounds better than the amp.
Sounds better, dunno, but I suspect the amp "felt" better.
I agree, it does on the recording! Not sure if it would in the room!
I guess you can play anything and it will sound good...
Thanks! You haven’t heard me try to play Jazz !!!!
