    excellent video. my first thumb ring was made from polymer clay. yes, it was terrible, so I got a thumb glove. it's like the three finger gloves but just has the thumb and index finger. so I haven't really invested time or money in a ring but I'll have to look in to that.
    Amazon in Canada tends to suck compared to the US.
    as for your release, you do you. I've seen different people do different things and when I shoot recurve I never did the golf ball on the shoulder thing. the way I see it you're just dissipating the energy from your drawing hand. the key is what ever you do, do that consistently. when I release mine is a bit of a mix of move back and a slight twist. that's what works for me and is comfortable.
    I love that you're enjoying this style, from day 1 when I tried it I fell in love with it. it's a lot more work and so much more fun.

      Thank you Paul. I really appreciate your time. I'm very pleased with this ring, as I mentioned in the video, it affords me the opportunity to concentrate on the whole picture. I am thoroughly enjoying this style of shooting. Already eyeing another bow, but will hold off a bit before I get another one. I'm comfortable with my release, just wanting to make sure what I am doing is not counter productive in the sho lt cycle. I appreciate you my friend. Best regards

      @@ScottWinters I'll be interested to see what bow you're eyeing up.
      I have two, I have a cheap Tibetan Quinhai from Ali Bow, and the Kingdom from Freddie Archery.

      Looking at the AF Archery Tatar bow. It's a 53 inch laminate bow with good reviews. I'm so new to this , that the main reason I'm waiting, but that may well be my next pruchase.

      @@ScottWinters that's wise, it can be expensive to buy a bow that you don't enjoy. my Tibetan bow is laminate and I enjoy it

    Nice vid Scott! I really leaned forward when you were explaining the thumb measuring. I don't have any Asiatic bows, but it is something I'm interested in. I was looking at bows and thumb rings and the thumb ring sizing looked like something I would go wrong with at least once if not twice before getting it right....grin. Thanks for sharing, always enjoy your vids.

      Thank you Shane, I appreciate your time my friend. I went back and forth trying to get the right info for ordering the ring. Some vendors gave no real info on sizing. This vendor explained the sizing well. The measuring was a plus to getting the correct one. From my experience thus asiatic style is frustrating and very enjoyable at the same time. I think pushing myself to learn something new is the most rewarding part of it. If you do decide to try it out definitely let me know brother. I appreciate you. Have a great day. Best regards

      @@ScottWinters I'll definitely let you know when it happens. I'll surely share on video. I also have a longtime interest in guns and reloading. All of these interests demand money to advance 'ideas' into 'actions' if you know what I mean....grin. Unlike our govt, I must operate within a budget, so delays in acquisitions are very real...and can lead to mental anguish in the decision making process. The struggle is real...😁😂🤣🏹🏹

      Totally understand that my friend. I go through the same mental gymnastics as well. Unless you can get someone to sponsor you, the waiting game is very real. One day though. Have a great one my friend. Best regards

      @@ScottWinters You too. We're getting another cold spell here, temp this morning was -1F, looks like it will be cold all week, so no vids just now. I have a few different 40# bows I intend to compare speeds over the chrono. Figured I'd make a vid on that. Kind of geeky, but still interesting. Need a warm enough day that the batteries in the chrono, audio recorder, and camera will play nice. Have a great day!

    I ordered that ring, the wrong size, twice LOL! I ended up chopping about an 1/8" sliver off the back part of the band then pinched it back together in a vice. Works great, one of the two thumb rings that I use.

    • @ScottWinters
      @ScottWinters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was afraid I would get the wrong size even after measuring. I was determined that I would modify it as well if it were wrong. Lol. I appreciate your time friend! Best regards

    Hello Scott, another great video. I am curious what it would be like to shoot your Black Hunter using the thumb ring? Do you feel there is any crossover or value to using a thumb ring with a traditional recurve bow?

    • @ScottWinters
      @ScottWinters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mark I appreciate your time and the question. I actually tried to use this with one of my recurves. I could be done if I had a left hand bow or if I used a pinch style method. Using the ring like I am the index finger pushed the arrow off the shelf. Some people do find value in thumb draw for western traditional archery. There are plenty of people who use it. I'm not sure I have enough strength to pull the string back by merely pinching the nock. I wondered if Y style nocks would help with that? I may see if I can find some Y nocks and try it. Appreciate your time my friend. Have a great evening. Best regards.

      @@ScottWinters Thanks for the feedback Scott. I am relatively inexperienced with traditional archery, having shot compounds back in the early 80's. I have purchased a Black Hunter style bow and want to give it a go. The appealing aspect of the thumb ring is the almost mechanical holding and release. I have a finger tab for my recurve. The pinch method would require some strength building in your fingers and Y style nocks seem a good idea. I think it would be hard for my 70 year old fingers to adapt to the pinch :)) Fun is where the fairs at and you are having a good time. Love your channel. Be blessed today my Friend.

      @@markmetzger5430 thank you Mark. Agreed on the strength needed for that, I'm not even sure I could pull it off. I am thoroughly having a great time learning this style. Brother I hope you have a wonderful evening. Best regards

      @@ScottWinters Mongolians often shoot with a thumb ring from the left side of the bow. From what I can tell they pull the string a little below the arrow nock almost like how a bare bow archer string walks. This prevent the index finger from touching the arrow and pushing it away from the bow.

      Appreciate the comment! I have a long way to go with this style of archery. I am definitely open to all the advice I can get. The goal for me is to just enjoy the journey as I learn. Thank you for the time. It is appreciated. Best regards.

    Vermil victory is better. Alibow shallow hook (bronze) is the worst. You can’t go wrong with leather. Too thick of leather, you can’t grip string

    • @ScottWinters
      @ScottWinters  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been looking at the Vermil Victory and wanting to try one. Do you know where I can find the sizing for them? That's the only thing that has stopped me from getting one. I have a good bit of leather lying around. I really just need to find the right thickness for me.
      I appreciate your comment and time my friend. Have a great evening! Best regards

    your left handed it will not be easy for a right handed to used a tumb ring

    • @ScottWinters
      @ScottWinters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm actually a right handed shooter. The camera reversed everything. I think the ring is ambidextrous and should allow it to be used on either hand. I appreciate your time my friend. Thanks for commenting. Have a great evening. Best regards

      right handed can use the ring too. you just have to "put the arrow in the other side of the riser. I shoot left handed do the arrow is in the other side
