  • Thumb Armor by Elong Outdoor.
    A leather thumb guard with brass inlay, so you get the comfort of a leather protector, but the stiffness inside of a thumb ring. Elong states that it is for beginners, but even I had a lot of fun with.
    It works deep hook, but I love that you can do shallow hook with it.

    I'm brand new to thumb release and have had a really hard time drawing my 30# using any of the thumb rings I got thinking to use them. This thumb guard is a game-changer for a noob like me; with it I can draw my bow to full draw without intense pain in my thumb joint. Thumb pad is still a tad sore and tingly, but the soreness is distributed evenly across my thumb pad and not in one groove like with every other ring or protector I've thus tried. Many thanks for your recommendation, Sifu Hirmer! 🙏🏾

    This is excellent. I know there are many people who shoot or want to shoot thumb draw who struggle to find a thumb ring that fits perfectly. Leather tabs are fine but at 40# the thumb gets sore. This ring is what the thumb archery world need to get people shooting immediately. Thanks, Armin!

    I just started shooting thumb draw and tried a brass thumb ring with the rear hook. My thumb hurt from the string pressure of a 45 lb. bow smashing the thumb tip against the fore finger, NO GOOD ! I bought a thumb protector like this one and so far I like it ! Since my anchor point is new I need to practice until I can make compensations so the arrow goes where I look instead of to the right. Also like anything new the release is not very smooth Yet.

      Maybe you're using the wrong leather. I have been shooting with a leather thumb guard I made for 2 years now. No tearing at all. I think it's pig leather, but I'm not sure. It's a bit over 1mm thick.

    • @agamagreen
      @agamagreen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gizmonomono I use Cordovan leather, which is very dense and durable), but even the 1,5mm thick leather gets a bit ‘loose’ by using it so often.
      This is what I call ‘wear out’.
      It’s not broken or cracked at all.

    • @gizmonomono
      @gizmonomono 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@agamagreen Getting lose is easily solvable by by tightening it more. In my case, at least. Your standards might be tougher than mine, then 😁 I just shoot whatever keeps my thumb protected, and doesn't interfere with loading.
      I like this concept of a hybrid ring. It's much more accessible, but provides more protection.

    • @agamagreen
      @agamagreen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gizmonomono Yeah, it’s still working and usable, but my right protector is a bit loose, whereas the left is still fine. My protector are a combination of thumb protection and arrow rest, so I can’t tighten the ‘tongue’, that’s covering the thumb. It’s somehow a ‘weak’ spot, but I like my protectors nevertheless 😁

    • @gizmonomono
      @gizmonomono 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@agamagreen I see. I usually make the lip very short. Like on a thumb ring. Because that's the area I need protecting. Maybe that's why it's not loose for me.

    Armin, you must be a mind reader or something 😃 On tuesday I was browsing thumb shooting gloves, when I found this (tho I found it on AliExpress 🤔), and I had some reservations because of the design (e.g. the edges of the leather seemed too proud for me) and now you upload a video about the very same thing... Coincidence? I think not!!! 😃
    P.S.: For the ring coming loose problem, try looping one of the drawstrings (or both) between the holes on the ring to get more friction that will hopefully keep it more secure.

    • @ArminHirmer
      @ArminHirmer  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the ring came out in China and now all resellers have it in their program. Of course the coming loose can be fixed easily, I just say what is going on out of the box. But still I like the thumb guard

    I like thumb rings in general, but only those that still let me feel the string an the arrow - those that let the tip of the thumb free an allow me to 'touch' . It's a personal preference only, but if i cant feel those, i kinda feel detached.

      The glove I usually use is from Freddie Archery. In higher poundage not that nice but in my way of shooting still a bit better than the thumb guard. An interesting concept. Very original. I would definitely go for one if I shot heavy bows. But I don't see how it's made for beginners, because beginners don't need thumb rings. A simple leather protector is fine for up to 50 pounds. I made one for myself and have been using it for two years now. No wear and tear at all.
    Still, an awesome thumb protector for sure. And 30 dollars is more than reasonable.
