  • A road map towards a more equitable and thriving Singapore has been put forth by the fourth-generation leadership. READ MORE: str.sg/iGmV
These include a greater helping hand for groups - such as those who are less well-off, mid-career workers and seniors - through means like additional financial support and improved infrastructure.
There will also be more assurances that Singaporeans’ basic needs at every life stage will be met, such as in education, retirement, healthcare and housing.
The 180-page Forward Singapore report unveiled on Friday (Oct 27) also articulated the mindset shifts required for Singapore to achieve the goals set out, such as for wider definitions of success and a stronger sense of collective responsibility towards one another.

People managers who get retrenched in middle age and beyond would find it hard to develop skills that put them in competition with younger ones who are able to accept lower salary.

The SG Conversation was launched in 2012 soon after (PAP) lost its first (GRC) to Workers’ Party in the General Election 2011. Public sentiments were against the incumbent due to unhappiness over foreign labour and many other issues.

80 percent of Singaporeans don't own any property as most properties are 99 years leasehold or leasehold. You're just renting. Very expensive rent too. Government is very clever to give citizens the mirage of owning property. So easy to fool.

    • @space4495
      @space4495 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

99 years leasehold is better than renting because one pays much lower price monthly than renting. Example, you pay for a BTO 5-room for nearly 300K so if you treat it as renting, monthly payment is about 252 and no changes in price for 99 years whereas renting costs more and at times pricing may change.

For Indra, pls also ask ladies to be less demanding, want the guys to provide but yet now want this and want that.. want both the cake and eat it. Want the guys to be more involves in family ? Sure, but ensure that ladies don’t expect guys to pay for all the bills, don’t complain if the guy do not bring home more of the bacon, do not assume that guys career determine his worth , and men can also get alimony if the lady earns more and don’t assume that only mothers get custody of the kids. Be fair if you want fair and do not be one sided .. should look at it holistically.

If Forward Singapore’s intention is indeed to find solutions for what Singaporeans had already told the government ten years ago, does it mean that the government has no solutions or idea of how to address those issues? And that this initiative is an attempt to crowdsource ideas that the government with the highest paid civil servants in the world can then use to perform their job?

Sg already most expensive city globally. And u are asking to make it more expensive? Paid u millions. Expect u to pay everyone sustainable wage, and have cpf for retirement. Key is landlords, and businesses are eating too much margin. Ppl are left with no savings, and cpf eaten by hdb and medical bills. Solve the root cause, not take the easy way out by asking ppl to pay more. Sg is already most expensive city globally.. i repeat.

Why not solve the high cost of living first. Housing and car are so ridiculously expensive.
Young couples cannot afford living in Singapore. Better to immigrate to other countries where one can afford big car and house. Furthermore, the house and land is yours and no such thing as leasehold which is ridiculous.

@@peterleefookkee3148 There's nothing disgusting about it. Unless I get to earn more, I too cannot afford to own a car when my current one is due to be scrapped. However, I am not sore about it because I have always believed that nobody owes me a living or a certain quality of life and standard of living . There are lots of opportunities out there. If I can't do as well as others, it's due to my own inability. I have to do some self-reflection and see what I can do to help myself instead of blaming the government or the society.

My elder one found a job before graduation while my younger one found one within 3 months. From what I know, their peers have no problem landing a job. Those who can find jobs are working at SMEs and startups, and pay is not the same across all companies, working location, company culture and pay are all determining factors. Some MNCs low pay long hours nobody wants that anymore. If got enough savings try investing with online brokerage small amount in USA stocks, amazon kindle affiliate also can get income.

MOFA Taiwan denounces George Yeo’s controversial remarks
Yeo’s recent recommendations for Taiwan to consider joining a “commonwealth” with China and pursuing a “One China” path have drawn significant condemnation from Taiwan.
The ministry asserted that Yeo’s comments were “completely inconsistent with the facts, clearly biased, and at odds with the understanding of most democratic countries in the region.”
Furthermore, they contended that Yeo’s personal opinions not only fail to contribute to regional peace and stable development but also harm the positive development of Taiwan-U.S. relations and Taiwan-Singapore relations.
The ministry voiced its profound regret over Yeo’s comments and urged against becoming a conduit for China’s authoritarian agenda.
This is to prevent any perception of assisting the Chinese government in its propaganda efforts or making inappropriate statements that could lead to social divisions and misunderstandings in Taiwanese society, ” said the ministry in the statement.
