  • If you want to be faster, you should pay attention to the latest pro tech trends! If the pros are doing it, surely we should too…
    Downhill is the Formula One of mountain biking, and while we’re not all World Cup DH racers, it’s a great catwalk to find out what fashions we’ll be seeing on our bikes over the coming years.
    We find out why the pros are making the switch to shorter cranks and what benefits swapping could have for you. We also learn why swapping wheel sizes might be a thing of the past, if bikes will get heavier, why bigger rotors make sense, your riding kit might get tighter and whether electronic gearboxes with belt drives could take over!
    Which of these trends are you most excited about? Let us know in the comments.

    How short are your cranks? 🤔

      I didn't realize I hopped on a trend when buying 165mm cranks, because I had bought a dropper too long 😂 they're great tho

      165, and I will go shorter when Shimano offer them

    I’ve had 165 - 175mm cranks for trail riding and I prefer longer cranks trail riding. I don’t like feeling like I have to pedal faster.. however on my downhill bike I went with a 165mm dub wide crank and a would have gone shorter on them if I could. I like the wide dub wide with larger spacers to get my foot base wider. But the shorter cranks to keep from striking as much. With more travel I get so many more pedal strikes on my DH bike.
    To note though I also don’t like riding my trail bikes in the low setting to reduce pedal strikes with longer cranks. I think BB height on a lot of bikes has gotten too low and the shorter pedals are to compensate.

    I cant understand how shorter cranks giving you a more narrow base of support and (assuming you are maintaining the same body position) a higher stance and centre of gravity = more stable. I do actually prefer shorter cranks for less rock strikes and increased cadence and i think the effects on base of support and centre of gravity are minimally negative but i need you to explain how it improves stability with science

    I am 172 cm. Started with 175 mm cranks and it was bad. Now I am on 165 mm and its lot better. However, I still feel I could go with even shorter.

    Support for 27.5 and 29 rear is a must. I prefer mullet, but I've got to have relatively fresh rubber on the front, so I'm moving it to the back when slightly worn, instead of throwing it away. This way I end up switching from full 29 to mullet all the time.

      I have a short inseam, 30 inches. I can't ride a full 29er without getting buzzed or sucked in to the seat tube. 27.5 feels to small. Mixed wheel is the only thing I ride now and will ever buy.

      Hi Ozak, I misspoke here. I should have said "newEST Specialized Enduro" or "most recent generation", you're right saying "new Specialized Enduro" makes it sound like the current 4-year-old design is new. Apologies for the confusion caused!

    160mm. Best mod I’ve done. Feels much more natural to squat down and move around on the bike.

    I thought plus tires and 27.5 was going to change the industry. Guess you can get 27.5 fork for about nothing now. Remember when the industry overproduced fat bikes.........

  • @Alan-75

    I dont want manufacturers pushing 29ers only or carbon frames on us. I prefer aluminium frames and 27.5 wheels. I'd put up with mullet if I had to but if you can only get carbon frames and 29ers I'd rather take up another hobby. One that doesn't cost an absolute fortune.

    Wouldn't XC be the F1 of mountain biking. More technology, lighter weight (or so it used to be), and finely honed athletes. Downhill is more like monster trucks or whatever a fat bloke from Kentucky does.
    Also, I run 155mm Unite cranks.

    • @ASAP2525
      @ASAP2525 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No weight is such a concern that tech isn’t put on the bike unless absolutely necessary. It’s more of a endurance race like La mon if I had to compare it to cars

    • @DandyHippo

      Xc is for kids and pretty slow. Dh is pretty fast. F1 is pretty gay. Not sure what point I was here to make

    • @ROSE-by5su
      @ROSE-by5su วันที่ผ่านมา

      Nope DH is the F1 of MTB because they maximize the speed for everything just for going down, Dont try to change things you cant understand its fucking stupid damn. XC only focus on going faster on climbs than the trails tbh, their kinematics are built for climbs.
