We had A3D's on the USS Constellation in the early 70's. It was one aircraft you stayed away from when landing or take off. Landing was more of a controlled crash. We had one hit the deck so hard it drove the nose gear through the fuselage, It was later scrapped. Very clean build on a kit not covered very much on video's ! Great building skills that are fun to watch !
Thank you very much. Thanks for the story I really love them. There's an older video on my channel (from 2017 or 2018 I think) where I build F-4 from USS Constellation - Showtime 100). I would like to build it again at some point.
Thats a lot of metal parts! :D Really like the epoxy+knife texture hack, thanks for that! You shed some light how to use color pecils, appreciate it :) seems to be nice model to build. Anyway, great build, fantastic result, big boy on the deck :D go for C-130 on a carrier :D Bravo!
@timshaw1712 it's... not a great kit. The whole interior, bomb bays etc it's great but it's getting problematic when you close both fuselage halves and start puting every other parts together, especially with wings fit if you want them unfolded and the wing roots. Also for me it was a bit too big to handle but maybe because I also had to fit everything within the camera frame.
@@ScaleHangar182The kit is big because the aircraft is big, positively gigantic for a carrier based aircraft. A diorama with standing figures next to it will make it more obvious that what we see on camera even given the cockpit layout. The US Navy has flown several side by side seating aircraft and they are all quite chunky compared to any single seat plane. Add my vote to the “great build” list. The Navy does like to keep its planes as clean as possible so you can’t be accused of excess weathering- what you did is quite representative of the real thing.
Using those SMS lacquer paints for staining the light gull gray and insignia white is a cool technique. You always surprise me, boss. When are we getting your build-off with Plasmo/ David Damek?
Beautiful build! I wish we could get those SMS paints more readily in the states. But, the retailers here seem to be sold out on just about all of them. Shame, they look like they spray very nice!
Ed Heinemann at Douglas had his successes, then he'd have Willy the Whale once in a while. I met a navy veteran at a hobby store who said if you had to bail out of an A3D, you were probably good as dead.
Hi Dawid, another excellent model build. Great to see you do several different weathering techniques. Thanks for your time in putting this video together and sharing. Are you going to Telford this year.?
Just a random question. Been watching your builds for awhile now. What do you do with them once they are complete? Do you keep them or they commission etc?
I built this one. I always build jets flying so don't have to mess around with spindilly, easily broken landing gear. I had to scrounge up a "crew" but besides that, it went together well. Why no pilot figures included REALLY ticks me off....seems to me ALL the older monogram or revell kits had crew figures included. With modern computer scanning/3D printing, what is the problem? Nice looking model. How about a 1/48 B-47 and C-119G? Those would sell a million if a company would produce them!!!
I completly understand your point. But I guess its quite a lot of extra work with all that technology. Back then yes, you had figures but looking at them now they dont look so great. Fortunately there is some great aftermarket pilots as well as aircraft carrier crew figures. As for your other question, Im a bit fed up with large 1/48 kits like this one so I want to build a few smaller jets now and already working on two ;) (as well as 1/700 aircraft carrier)

You should start a modeling studio with Jamie Haggo and Phil Flory. You'd be the Cream of British modelers.
The music and the editing while you're painting feels like I'm watching an 80s movie montage. I love it
Great work on this kit. I don’t recall seeing a Sky warrior being built on TH-cam. Thanks for choosing this subject.
This is in my stash and getting close to the bench. I'm glad I waited for 182 to show me the way on this kit.
This looks awesome, I have no words to describe how good it looks.
Very nice!!!! Whale in the groove my Dad used to say.

nice aircraft , nice build👍
Nice model. A3D-All Three Dead. No ejection seats, crew drops out the bottom. Used to see 'em all the time all over the world-VR-50 "Drifty Fifty".
Excellent built!!!!
Incredible detail and craftsmanship!
*The Skywarrior isn't very popular among modelers but it did a great job, excellent work on this beautiful model David!*

these things must be comically large next to ww2 bombers or small commercial planes
Great build! Where did you get that sanding bow tool at 9:02 ?? How can I find it?

I sold most of them but I don't do comissions. Some of them are on ebay, If they sell, they sell if not, It's also okay :)
