What an important message! Thanks for sharing your experience! Kayaking isn't always physically challenging, but also psychically challenging.

Yeah, I think we spend a lot of time focus on the physical difficult but not enough time talking about the mental challenges we deal with. If my experience can be relatable or helpful to someone than I’m happy -Tony

I have had this exact day on the green many times. Lap after lap of saying todays the day and just feeling "off" or the pad not looking "perfect".. In reality my lines never went bad and I don't even know what perfect is for the pad... Its definitely important to not takes things so seriously and remember to just have fun. Took me so much to get into my boat when i finally ran gorilla. Once I got in I have never been so locked in on anything in my life. Pure bliss. Self assessment will yield long careers

Solid assessment. If you watch the locals. I’ve walked a bunch and watched all the legends that are way way way better than me walk because they’re not feeling it. Wait till there’s more water. 8-10” is solid for a first lap.

Seems like this video has been quite a cathartic process for you which is definitely helpful! Good on ya! Lines looked alright but the head game is always more important

It's very cathartic. When paddling, I always find it important to be aware of your feelings and make decisions based on those feelings. It’s a process, and vocalizing those feelings is part of it. -Tony

I have 2 thoughts about this. (None are critical of you at all btw)
Some of the best lines I've had on big rapids are those days where I'm feeling like the boat is paddling me. Your body knows what to do. Trust in your lizard brain...it knows what to do.
2ndly as I have gotten older (I'm 49) I have realised I dont care how bad I'm looking each day. The people that boat with me know im good in the rapids and they will razz me mercilessly when I'm looking like a beater...and that's good cos it stops me from being too critical and makes me laugh at myself over those mishaps.

I think that’s a great outlook and I wish I had it more often. A good crew that makes you laugh is one of the best aids I’ve ever had paddling hard white water-Tony
