    We went 4.56 for 35s on our JK. Duty cycle is overlanding with focus on capability and reliability. 4.56 isn’t just for mall crawlers. Our main factor came down to the strength and more optimized tooth contact of the physically larger gears. Sometimes it’s not all about the mathematical ratios but more-so about the mechanical considerations

    Great Video! Just put 37s on my Gladiator looking at a re-gear (live in Montana) since the up size in tires with the mountains in NW Montana the only time I hit 8th gear is going down hill, thinking of 513s do you suggest those or go 488s

I'm sure I'll disappoint you with my gearing, I'll be no where near 5.38. I'm a daily driver that likes to off-road on the weekends. Nothing crazy, Badge Of Honor Trails that I can handle and so forth. Nothing serious. Thanks again for the video.

    Hello from Aus! Great video. I've got 2015 no 3.6L 5speed auto. I've got 285/70/17 think it's 32.6inches. What gears would you recommend? 4.10 or 4.56? In my state I can't run bigger tyres, I'm at the max already so I won't be upgrading. I do hit up the trails few times a month but no rock crawling. So mostly a daily driving. I'm particular interested in the best gears for fuel efficiency for my size tire. Cheers love your channel.

    4.56 gears on 35 is for mall crawlers? Not everyone crawls rocks, some of us like to explore off-road and travel with our Jeeps.

    • @clwade10
      @clwade10 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Dirt Hammers Off-Road - Agreed that statement surprised me too regarding 4.56 gearing/35's for mall crawlers. Mall crawlers would keep the sport stock 3.21 garbage or 4.10 Rubi gearing since its for looks. Ive been advised by many other professionals that 4.56 gearing is better for highway driving and trail use. My JKU is my daily driver so needs to do everything lol. Now I don't know...

    • @Georgia4Low
      @Georgia4Low 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      clwade10 yeah crazy,,, I’m going 4.56 because I need to travel for hrs on the highways at times to get to our area we want to explore and the Jeep needs to be trail worthy as well when we get there. It’s not my daily driver, just our exploring rig. Mine is a 3.6L with manual.

    I have 4.88 Yukon gears in my JLU Sport S. Haven’t had any issues, and I do plan on swapping the front axle in the near future. I’m still in a cross road though: Dynatrac vs Dana Spicer vs Teraflex. I’ll be going with an air locker in the front(still debating about the rear since it’s a anti-slip rear M220 rear axle). What does Exodus 4x4 stand by when it comes to axles?

    Im running 5:13 gears in my 2 door JK with 39-13.5 BFG km3 tires. Beefed up front Rubicon 44 and beefed up the stock rear 44. I think they're holding up mostly right now because I have the old 3.8v6 and it's a 2 door so it's lighter weight. I don't think I'm going to brake my axles, I think what will brake first is my 1310 drive shafts. I think I would be ok with that though. Not the end of the world if those cheaper easy to fix parts brake.

    Exodus Jeeps- Excellent Video! New Subscriber :) One question if you don't mind. What about elevation and wheeling in higher altitudes and how that affects gearing selection? • @Exodus4x4
      @Exodus4x4  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      clwade10 great question! I don’t feel there’s enough difference to make it a factor. A little adjustment in the engine tuning would be required if you were to gear and change elevation but I don’t think I’d consider elevation. If anything, go up numerically in ratio.

    Should I re-gear to a 4.88? I’m going to keep my stock 31 tires until I wear them out (around 20,000 miles left) and then go up to a 33 or 34 tire at most. I live in Utah if that makes a difference.

      Go with the ratio that brings your rpm back to factory spec for 65mph. That requires some math. Top Gear ratio of transmission x diff ratio x 336 (constant) x 65mph divided by tire size equals rpm at 65mph. Example: top ratio is (for example only) .75 in O/D x rear ratio (stockist? 3.73) x 65mph x 336constant = 61097 ÷ 28" (stock size tire?) equals 2182rpm on highway. Now go to 35" tire and reverse the equation. 35x61097÷336÷65÷.75 =4.66 so 4.56 might be a bit low, but 4.88 is high. Bigger tires is more rotating mass and power required to spin so a few extra rpm will help the engine spin things round and round. I'd personally go higher myself but the math is there.

    I have 2020 Gladiator 6spd with 2” MOPAR lift and 37’s. A magnuson super charger and Centerline replacement clutch is on order. OEM gears are 3:73 and wondering your thoughts on better gear package. I’m not a rock crawler. I live in mountainous area BC CAN and drive a lot in 4H in winter and gravel roads in summer. I haul a cargo trailer with motoX bikes and ski boat. Appreciate your advice in advance!

      I’d still put 37’s in it. The supercharger won’t add so much power that you won’t need gears. Hell I still run 5.38’s with my 6.4 Hemi and it’s 500hp

    My husband recently took over my 08 JKU Sahara when I got my 22 JL Sahara and he wants to regear. I want to surprise him but not sure what to get. It’s his daily driver and he drives 3 hours one way to work every 2 wks (offshore) but when we can he likes to do trails and whatnot. Not looking to run huge tires. Currently has 35s. What gears would allow for some good crawling power but also have decent gas mileage? Thx oh. It’s 6 speed/manual.

    Hello. Just moved from Fairbanks, Alaska to Frost, Texas. My Jeep is being shipped along with our household goods. What kind of gears should I be running? My stepson put 37 inch super swampers on them back in 2017. I was at a VA hospital in Seattle when i told him to go fix up the Jeep. Regret giving him the credit card and being on painmeds! The Jeep is a 1980 CJ5 Renegade with a 258, 4.2 L engine. swapped out the T-176 4 speed manual with a T-18 4 speed with a granny 1st gear. The jeep originally had 31 inch tires on a 2 inch lift. He did a 4inch lift with Rough Country lift kit and 37 inch tires. My rear axle is an AMC 20 and the front is a Dana 30. The gears are 3.73. This will be my daily/weekly driver. Mostly on the highway and back roads of small towns. Some 4 wheeling and mudding, but no rock crawling. What would be the best gearing for it? 4.10, 4.56, or 4.88? Thanks. Mark Feuerherdt (For-your-heart) :-)

      I was going to ask the same question. Mine is a 2004 TJ Rubicon, original axles. I have 35's and they seem to run well on the 410's. I want to get good gas mileage and was considering 4.56 gears. But due to weight considerations I was thinking 4.88 but not sure if there is a big difference in gas mileage.

If I regear what should I change to? Also contemplating supercharger to get extra power. Any recommendations? Unfortunately I live in California. Do you know of shops here. I would like to do both supercharger and regear so I can off-road and still,pull my trailer and not be too heavy.

      Hit up Off Road Evolution for the re-gear. Personally I think 4.56 would be a good ratio for you pulling the trailer. Try that before adding any forced induction.

    I have a question that you probable get often but I hear different answers. What do you think about a locker for a Dana 30 front axle on a Sahara? I am not an extreme rock crawler just want to improve the off road capabilities with out breaking the bank but also do not want anything to break on the trail. I am on running 35" tires and want to re-gear and add lockers at the same time.

    • @Exodus4x4
      @Exodus4x4  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I actually think that if you rock crawl more often you have a better chance of NOT breaking it because you’re more experienced. Keep the front open and you’ll be ok.

    Hello, thanks for the great video. I have been looking for a gladiator. Everyone is telling me to go with the rubicon over the sport s. If I am going to get it re geared and upgrade the suspension rite away is the rubicon worth the extra cash. Wouldn't it be better to get the sport and spend the cash on aftermarket upgrades.

    • @Exodus4x4
      @Exodus4x4  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really depends on you. The Rubicon is the only way to have lockers for the foreseeable future unless you’re like me and swap to D60 aftermarket axles. I do agree that the Rubicons are overpriced for what they are, unless you’re be running a max of 37” tire.

    • @supersportimpalass

      A big advantage is the lower 4:1 transfer case. You could possibly swap one in later along with lockers of your choice when you are ready to re-gear.
