    this is like the americanized version of the raindrop cake. the gelatin makes it cloudy compared to the traditional way.

      She isn't making actually raindrop cake. I don't consider it to be actual raindrop cakes because she is using gelatin.

    You're such a good teacher, and the instruction was very clear and organized. I'd heard about a raindrop cake but had no idea what it was. it's a beautiful effect. I liked the middle one best, the one with the flower shape you poked through the gelatin. To tell the truth, with regard to taste, I can't understand why it's so popular. However, to each his own. I'm glad I know now what it is and how to make it.

    Just a heads up for all those who are confused on the name, and meaning! It's actually called mizu shingen mochi. Really, it's not even mochi, but it shares a similar shape and somewhat texture, along with the traditional way of eating it is alike to some mochi's. It wasn't until a man living in New York saw it's potential popularity in america, that it came to be called rain drop cake. Also, the traditional mochi, is made with agar-agar powder and mineral water, not gelatin mix, and sugar. The mochi is very flavorless, and not sweet. It was made to be a refreshing delicate dessert, it even melts in your mouth. It's when the cane sugar syrup, and soy bean flour are added, that it makes a really interesting texture and taste. Sweet, delicate, and nutty. This recipe is a bit more americanized. It's very sweet on it's own, more jello like, and less delicate and clear. I've made both, and they are very different, but both still great!

    I believe a bit less gelatin (and sugar) would allow them to hold, but be more translucent and delicate like a rain drop. When eaten they should almost melt away instantly in your mouth. But such pretty ideas!

      Citric Acid is also called Lemon Salt or Sour Salt. Even if you can't find it some place as citric acid, it might be under a different name. You can find it easily in the seasoning section at the grocery store or get it from the baking section in an arts and crafts store like Michael's. They probably will have something that is organic or all natural that you can pick from.

    Isn't it called jello and not cake?

    • @howlingway
      @howlingway 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It originates from Eastern Asia, more specifically Japan. There, it is called literally translated, "raindrop cake". Western cake is quite different from Eastern cake, as demonstrated by mochi rice cakes versus classic vanilla cake.

      It's gelatin with flavoring. It's jelly, of which Jell-O is the common commercial product. My "opinion" doesn't need quotations, since it's definitely not near/somewhat/or surmised as my opinion...It is my opinion in its' entirety. Does the "D" in "AWESOME-D Girl!" stand for "Dipshit"? It ought to.

    • @BiSTHN
      @BiSTHN 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      It's an error in translation. This 'raindrop cake' came from Japan where it's called mizu shingen mochi. Mochi is a type of sweet so I'd imagine that somewhere along the way, it started being called a 'cake' mistakenly.

      Either call it a raindrop cake or call it by its Japanese name, mizu shingen mochi. Thought I have to admit, raindrop cake isn't exactly the most accurate name.

    • @bribri3069
      @bribri3069 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well it's supposed to be clear and smooth like a raindrop but it looks like she's done it wrong. Raindrop cake is just a name. It's not a cake but a starfish isn't really a fish. We call them fish regardless. It doesn't matter. I don't understand why people are so upset that it's called a cake.

    • @ellen3131
      @ellen3131 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Seth Hammer First of all I'm not a pig protector as you call it (speaking of things you know nothing about) Second, you just confirmed my point: it's found in skin and bones of dead carcasses, in other words dead pigs :)

    • @WaterspoutsOfTheDeep
      @WaterspoutsOfTheDeep 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not pig or anything else. Its gelatin. A protein that's it. Neither is vitamin C made from gmo corn anything to do with corn or gmo. After all the processing what's left is all that's left vitamin C no corn. Same with gelatin there is nothing in relation to pig or beef whereever it came from. You are really ignorant. It would be like me saying we chopped you up and extracted vitamin C from your body ellen then bitching about eating ellen vitamin C. It's just vitamin C at that point after processing nothing more nothing less, ellen free vitamin C. Just like gelatin it's indifferent and irrelevant in the end product where it came from.

    • @ellen3131
      @ellen3131 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Without the dead pigs there would be no gelatin to proces would there? They kill the pigs to make the protain, so it's definitaly relevant. It's the same as saying a chicken nugget isn't chicken because it doesn't look like one.

    • @WaterspoutsOfTheDeep
      @WaterspoutsOfTheDeep 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A huge amount is beef gelatin so yes there would be. No once it's gelatin it;s been so processed it has zero relation to where it came from. It could be human gelatin. It's just the gelatin molecule. There just isn't a way to make it as far as I know synthetically yet or from plants. There is however for vitamins only found in the form of their animal counterparts though. So your argument is very silly.
